Update Upgrade: List of Changes / Feedback

I thought it would be a good idea to try to post a list of the changes that came with this upgrade.

1.) "Community" dropdown on navbar.

There is a new category in the toolbar with links to the chat, the current newsletter, BB's Myspace etc and other member/community type things.

2.) Social group discussions/categories.

Instead of just being like a giant tagboard, you can now make thread-like "discussions" within the fan clubs. There also is the ability to seperate the clubs into categories, but we haven't actually created any of those yet lol. Social groups can also now have icons.

3.) Private Message Sorting

You can now sort your pm's by sender or title. You can also filter your pm's by sender or title (which is kind of like a mini-search).

4.) PM History

From vbulletin.com: "When you receive a message from another user that is in reply to something you sent them, you can now view a history of replies."

5.) Quick edit for visitor messages

You can now edit vm's the same way you can posts.

6.) Private Message Quick Reply

7.) Profile Privacy

You can now limit who can see your profile info.

8.) New Template Set

The main change is to how posts are displayed, most everything else was just cleaning up old code.

9.) New display when posts are merged

Now it will display the time of the original post and the time of the post that was merged.


I tried to find a way to allow people to limit the new posts to certain forums, but was unsuccessful. Still trying to find a way, but I would say using Subscribed forums is the best option atm.

Also couldn't find a way to make it show new posts in thread started by/posted in by you. Best option there is to go to your profile and search for all your threads that way, or use Advanced search to find threads you posted in and see if there are new posts in it.

I'm still working on some changes to karma. Oh and I'm asking about that smilie.


I'm also going to be going over the boards more and adding some more new things but I think it's safe at this point to call the upgrade itself complete and invite feedback. I will post though as new things are added or other changes are made.

Okay, I don't see any change there. There should be the "Empty Folder" link at the top, under where it tells you how many messages in your inbox. Also you should be able to select as many messages as you like over multiple pages, then choose Delete from the dropdown on the bottom right.

I just checked.
Unless I am missing something, I can check them all individually but when I click the 'Check All' option, only that box is checked and when I delete, it tells me no messages were selected.
 
I like the profile privacy thingy. First thing I did was put my contact info and visitor messages on 'Friends only'

Also, the quick reply for private messaging is pretty nice, I always hate it to first load a new page before I can start typing.

Thoug I am kinda sad that my sugestion of renaming 'Referrals' didn't get picked up, lol.

Ah gotcha. Checking to see if it's a bug. Sure looks like one 😉

The point of displaying the number is to encourage people to refer, so if it's not clear exactly what it is, the purpose is defeated. 🙂
 
Uhm, also....I just put all my conact inf (so including all my messangers) on 'friends only', and now there's this new element of messengers on our profile sidebar when we post. Can members I'm not friends with now still see this or not?

I think also, thats the first time you have called me Al🙂

Anyway, on the rest of it, its looking good.

I'ma do something now I normally leave to others, but thanks for all the effort and time you've put into making this place worth coming to.

Oh wow Buffy, you've certainly been busy! Thanks so much for taking all that time to give us great upgrades! 🙂 I think they all sound very useful and efficient. So, the change in the sig format is part of it too though right? I'm still a little iffy on how I feel about that change... my instinct is to say I liked it better before when there was a line between the actual text of your post and your sig instead of it looking like your sig is part of your post... but if its a permanent change, I'm sure I'll get used to it, I'm just used to the other way. Are there no size limitations on sigs now though? Seems like that has the potential to get a bit out of hand...
 
The update looks good. The community tab sure is useful. I didn;t now we had a LJ and Myspace page. Not that I have an account with either of those, but it's good to know just in case. So far, I haven't found any bugs yet. Well done, Buffy! 😀

Oh, I found something extremely minor and it might just be my computer, and I seriously hope that I won't sound totally anal for noticing it, but sometimes the dividing lines between threads, or options in several drop down menus dissappear. Which might indicate that something's a tiny bit wrong in what ever code you use, and tiny mistakes could lead to bigger ones. Just so you know ^^
 
I love the updates. 😀 Thanks Buffy! I agree with Airam though, I liked it better with the line separating the post from the sig. And there's really no limitation on the size of your sig now?

Can you please screen cap that for me if it happens again because I'm not exactly sure what you mean. 🙂


For those that asked about the dividing line between posts and sigs...let's try it this way and see how it works out, then if we don't like it we can always change. The problem is that depending on whether people center/left align/right align their sigs the line looks bad if it's not the same alignment.

That was one reason I tried putting it into its own block.

The update has also solved my problem. I might be wrong but what itsxpaperdoll is talking about sounds a little like what happened to me just before the update.

ive havnt met with any problem since the upgrade or problems with dividing lines between posts.

Im in two minds about the separating line between sigs and posts now. Initially i thought it made posts much more fluid and made the thread more 'readable'. On reflection, I think it makes things a little more confusing when reading posts. Its ok for us with IMG sigs but those with text sigs or more simpler versions; their posts blend with their sigs and I end up confused sometimes about their point.

Again, just a point of view.
