UPN To Pass On 'Angel'

If UPN is going to grab any show from The WB, it apparently will not be the popular "Angel" series, which wasn't popular enough with overall viewers to keep it on the air.

While fans are going out of their way to try and save the show, one network that was a ray of light, apparently is going to pass on the opportunity to bring Joss Whedon back to its airwaves.

A Viacom source tells SyFy Portal that UPN is reportedly going to say no to bringing the series over from The WB, putting the final nail in the coffin for the series.

"The show is just too far in its lifespan to really make decent money on it," the source said. "It was a mistake for UPN to grab 'Buffy' so late, and it ended up costing (the network) money. 'Roswell' is another example of how it just isn't feasible for UPN at this time."

The WB cancelled "Angel" last month, effective at the end of the current season. In the announcement, The WB said it wanted to give the series a chance to end the way the producers want it to end, and that this would be a fitting way to do it. After the cancellation, the producers apparently opened up talks with UPN, but even at the beginning, some people connected to the show admitted that earning a UPN pickup was a "long shot."

Please note that none of this information has been confirmed by UPN or Twentieth Century Fox Television -- which produces "Angel" -- and should be treated as any other rumor would be treated.

I understand that you are upset, but talk like that does not have a place here on the boards. And that also goes for anyone who posts thoughts about 'killing' UPN Execs.

I hate the WB and UPN!!...I'm not gonna say what I'd to do to them, but I imagine you all know what that'd be,we're all feeling the same I guess...

Faith is right.....no need to get all rowdy.....this means NOTHING. There are other networks.....do NOT lose hope.

Magui....do you remember what thread you put Joss Whedon's address info on?

I was just kidding. It's not like I'm going to really burn down the place, but I can see how a comment like that is not appropriet for a message board. Sorry.

Anyway, it does say at the bottom that it should be treated as a rumor, so there is still hope. It was not a mistake to pick up Buffy so late in the season. Didn't it say somewhere that Angel's ratings are better this year than any other? That means people are watching the show, more people I mean, and that will make them money.

Thank you Magui.

I'll get together with DarkKnut and write Joss and Mutant Enemy a strong letter, respectfully urging them to consider pitching the show to other networks....most notably TNT and CBS....for starters.

I will also urge those of you who have the time to please do the same.

There is still plenty of time to win this.

Angel on UPN Update

Up until now it's only been a rumor, it becomes more and more official that UPN might not want to pick up Angel.

Allyson at DavidFury.net and Buffistas.org has confirmed that UPN has decided to pass on the offer to air Angel on their network. It's been an incredibly ride, but it seems as if this chapter in the Jossverse has truly closed.

Let`s hope TNT or WB will finally pick up Angel.

Well im not surprised, UPN already has enough to worry about with their network ratings, and they have already said that they didnt want to pick up another networks scraps.

Oh no oh no...this isn't looking good. I just don't understand the UPN or the WB. I'm hoping that somehow...anything good will happen.

If there's a bright side it's that Joss will be able to give Angel a real finale and some kind of closure. He was never given to opportunity to do that for Firefly and we'll likely have to wait for Serenity before we our next Whedon fix after Angel's done.
