Now that smacks of presumption - does Mr McCain already believe he's on the way to a landslide loss?
For the record, i didn't vote. and my reasoning is this: i didn't follow the whole campaign. I have not been involved in going over the issues, i did not watch the debates. when it comes down to it, my vote would be just as worthless as someone walking in blindfolded and flipping a switch. I admit i am uninformed of the issues and the candidates and as such feel I shouldn't vote. I feel like I did the right thing on my part. But apparently it gave way to being harassed by a lot of people on campus today (mostly Obama supporters, i DO live in NYC, and it IS a blue state).
 
Forgive me for saying this, but it sounds to me as though he's already thinking that he's going to loose. He may or he may not, but for McCain to think that there has been voting irregularities before the polls haven't even closed smacks of defeatism to me.

People picking up ballot papers off the floor and standing about with night-sticks is of course something that shouldn't be allowed to happen in any election no matter where in the world it's held. But if there aren't enough people in the buildings to police the voters then that particular polling station shouldn't be open. As for those outside with the sticks - surely the police in those various places should be doing their jobs and moving those people on so that voters can egress the polling station without feeling intimidated.
 
Obviously I don't know the rules or the regulations of voting in the US, but could those areas in which irregularities have occurred vote again in a few days time under stricter conditions? Or would the whole process have to start again from scratch?

there is no scrapping the process, and this is the only (well, last) vote. But these reports do not surprise me coming from a Chicago politician at all. Yeah, I said it. Sue me!

I don't think I've ever heard of an election having to start over or even be redone. And because it will obviously favor the Dems, I don't think a damn thing will be done about it.

Oh, Blondie... interesting article. I agree that McCain wants this race fairly run, even if it means he loses. I would hope that Obama wants the same.

One thing I really hate are folks who jump to conclusions and decide you're racist because you didn't vote for a black man. People like that seem to me to be the more racist, for narrowing down your options strictly based on colour. They seem to forget that there's more than the shade of someone's skin when it comes to how one can run the country. 😛

Little Miss... even though you haven't been following it during the race, did you think of taking a look into the issue today? Polls being open all day, it would give you time to take a look at the candidates and their positions and a general overview of previous voting records. Just a thought. 🙂

i dont feel like everything im going to read in one day is going to be enough for me to make an educated decision.

My boyfriend hasn't voted either, he feels he doesn't like the government as is, so whoever is in office doesn't matter to him, he doesn't expect change.

And you know what? im sure everyone and their mother would want to bash him for that, or me for my decision, but i think we need to all be accepting of each others decisions no matter what the feelings behind them may be. I'm not saying i feel attacked by you guys, i guess ive just felt attacked all day and so im on a defensive edge tonight lol.

I just think, whether ive voted or not should not matter to anyone except myself. if you feel it is right for you to vote, and you do so, then that is all you should be concerned with. That's just me. again this is not me pointing a finger at anyone, just me saying in a general way how i feel. Indeed it is our right to vote, but also a choice, and i just feel like just because people don't vote doesn't mean there is something wrong with them, or that they are like, evil people or something. I think sometimes others get really insulting about it as ive experienced today.

This thread has been interesting so I´d like to thank everyone that took part of it. And I must admit that as the voting goes it´s far more even than I thought it would be from the start. And it seems like most europeans voted for Obama. Which makes me wonder how it would look like if we had a poll just for the americans. Could be very interesting indeed.
