Sometimes it's because, maybe it's true, maybe it isn't. Either way it sounds good enough to quote.

I remember one from the original Book Of Lists that said "Napoleon lost the Battle of Waterloo, because of his hemorrhoids." Apparently Napoleon's hemorrhoids were really flaring up that day; so bad in fact, that he couldn't mount his horse. This prevented him from getting a clear view of the battlefield.

Now that may be true... it may be partially true, or it may be completely false. Who besides Napoleon really knows?

Useless facts can be badly researched. I quoted a fact I know I heard one time concerning SMG having a brown belt in Kung Fu. I know I heard that somewhere, but I don't know where. I thought it was TV Tome. I went back to check, and couldn't find it. I don't know if it's true. I don't even know if they give out belts in Kung Fu. I know I heard it one time though, so I quoted it.

Sometimes things just sound cool when you hear them so you quote them. Susan Lucci being Phylis Diller's daughter is an example of that. I don't know if that's true or not. I never checked, but it sounds cool, so I quoted it.

All in all, as far as useless facts go, I'd say they're great for casual conversation, but you don't want to be quoting one unresearched in a business report, or anything like that.

I just read it. Pretty fascinating.

I find it interesting that the international media perpetuated that Donald Duck myth. Makes you wonder who you can believe.

My pleasure nerd4hire. It's been one of my favourites for a long time. I think they are pretty thorough in their research so I trust their conclusions. As I said before, it's amazing how many facts you know turn out to be urban legends - and equally amazing are the ones that turn out to be true that you think are bound to be fiction😉
