Ok...I must've seen Enemies like...over 100 times now...and I *still* dont understand the whole Angelus thing...

I dont understand how everything works and...well...everything...so...if someone could PLEASE explain it for me...I'd be very much appreciative 😀

The Shaman that performed the ritual was actually Giles acquaintance from back in the day. He didn't do a real spell, just put on a light show so that Faith would think a spell went on and Angel's soul was extracted. Then as Angelus he got the inside info on Faith & the Mayor's plans.

Don't think about Enemies too hard, your head will explode. I watch it like I watch 24. The twists and momentum make it interesting enough to cover the huge, huge, huge, huge plot holes...

I get that part...but...how does Giles know that The Mayor was going to call on that Shaman?
I know the Shaman didnt really take Angel's soul away...but how does it all work?

Its the links between the Shaman and Giles, and the Shaman and The Mayor...
I mean, if Giles knew about the light show and stuff, then why did the group turn up with stakes to kill Angelus? How come no one else was in on the plan?

Am I looking in the wrong direction to understand this episode?
 
The Shaman came to Giles after Mayor Wilkins contacted him. He owed it to Giles since he had done him the great favor of introducing him to Mrs. Shaman.

If you'll notice there's a brief look between Giles and Buffy after they "find out" about Angel has turned. This is meant to hint to the viewer (in retrospect) that there was something else going on.

Everyone else wasn't in on it (as Wesley later laments). Only Buffy and Giles knew so in order to keep up apperances they went along with the Angel has turned story.

They didn't only show up to stop Angel but also to stop Faith.
 
That was my problem too. It doesn't fit. At what point did Buffy/ Angel/ Giles cop on, and form the plan? When did Shaman guy come into it? Why did Buffy put so much work into redundant misdirection? I wonder who's idea was the terrible, scary "Let's smooch the truth out of Faith" plan.... And what if Jack had shot Nina in the damn head?

But, like I said, the episode is just so enjoyable it coasts along nicely, logic be damned...
 
Let's compare this to another Buffy episode. Showtime. In Showtime they came up with the plan to slay the ubvervamp by driving him into the "arena". They used a flashback to explain how/why they came up with the idea. In film school they teach us that the audience is retarded which is why you see streamers on air condition vents, hear voice over way too often, etc. The flashback to explain it all is often used so the audience "gets it". I always found it nice that Buffy didn't implore this option tooo often. Though I suppose some people need all those loose ends tied up.

I am not insulted. I'm sorry you feel I am. :chillpill I asked for plot holes yet I see people simply stating "it just didn't fit".

There really aren't any plot holes. I'm waiting for a response on that.

You're questioning it's logic or the fact that everything wasn't summed up with a nice bow? I like how the writer's respected us enough to realize we have the ability to fill in the blanks. I didn't know others had such a problem with it.

If Buffy is about to stake a vampire and just as she stakes him the camera moves and we don't see the dust blowing in the wind do you immediately think "Poop they didn't show us what happened?" Sometimes less is more.
