We haven't had one of these for a while, so what's the story of your username? And previous ones for those that have changed their name?

Mine is based on my first email address, when I set that up the nail polish I had on was called nightshade.

What previous names? There were previous names?

Thanks for the info. Used to think your name was taken from the Pokemon attack Night Shade lol.
My first username was because I used it for literally everything.
My current one is because I have friends that like Buffy and we frequently ask each other questions about it. I have this fear that they will google a question and Buffy Boards will come up and they will recognise it's me straight away.

Willow and Tara are my favourite couple on Buffy and actually my favourite couple ever! Anywhere! I put Willow first cause she is my favourite character and I almost always say "Willow and Tara" instead of "Tara and Willow", don't ask me why I didn't put an "and" or anything there, just Willow Tara. 😛
And at the time I registered my username everywhere was either Willow Rosenberg or something with Willow and Tara... Now it's almost everywhere whedonversefan/Whedonverse Fan (except here). 🙂 Tillow is still my favourite couple and it always will be!😍🥰💖💗💞

Mine is based on a character I created for a tv series I envisioned when I was in high school that was Buffy-inspired, before “Supernatural” was a thing (it involved demon hunters).

Mine is taken from the character Kratos from Tales of Symphonia. He’s one of my favourite videogame characters. Saw a bit of myself in him and figured his name would suit me here.

The name Illyria was taken , as I was reading up on where the land of Illyria was, a person who lived there was an Illyrian, mind you it was the powers that many of the Illyrians had that fed my intrigue.

Laziness. It's my gmail addy which I chose because I hate having to use numbers in a name. To get one I combined 2 nicknames I had.

My grandmother called me "pix" (short for "pixie") as that's how she envisioned me as a small child (but even in my late 20s she'd still sometimes call me Pix) because of my frequent laughter, boundless energy, and mischief (mischief wasn't mean but it was dangerous and she worried about keeping me alive since I'd get curious about electricity or the gas, and as I knew I'd get in trouble for messing with that I was often sneaky about it, like when I was 4 years old, so if I suddenly went quiet she got scared and come looking for "wondering what that pixie is up to now").

"Thrasher" was a nickname I was given at 15 because I was good with a skateboard which at the time was so unusual for a girl (now they have all-girl summer camps to teach skateboarding to girls, I'd have never gotten that nickname today). I'm not into skateboarding anymore.

So I combined them into "thrasherpix" and it was original enough for a gmail address without needing numbers.

And then I found my way here. I had NO idea I'd become as involved with it as I have. I figured this would be one of those boards I mostly lurked at and maybe posted a few times a year so I didn't think of a user name. Since that's not how it turned out I sometimes think I should change my name here.

As for my avatar, it just kinda cracked me up, the cat barely seen who accidentally gets shot by a crossbow rather than going out in a blaze of glory. It also fit my idea that I'd only be here rarely. Though most of all (but if I'm right then it was subconscious at the time) he looks like Gink from Dorrie the Little Witch which was a series I got into when I was 5 and will still reread one when I get a chance to this day. While most illustrators made Gink an all-black cat (and that's how most remember him) the description actually says Gink has a splash on white on his chest. When I was a little girl I swore I'd have a cat that looked like Gink (and what do you know, Willow and Tara get one if but for a short while). As it is, I ended up with a white cat (who died) and I don't feel like getting a cat with that description anymore, but the avatar is a nice consolation prize.

I've never changed my name or avatar, but if I do then it's going to be to Moloch the Corruptor as I just have a warped sense of humor and love campy season 1. It seems funnier to keep this avatar with that name, though.

My apologies then for it being Pix and Thrasher, my thoughts of Rasher of bacon butty fame was misplaced.
It's my name (or nickname, rather) and the first initial of my last name.

I didn't put any effort into my username because I only re-signed back up when an old vid of mine was posted here by another member and I wanted to clear some things up re the vid. I had no idea I'd get sucked back into this Forum 😀

I used to post under the username EffyStonem which was taken from my favourite character from Skins.

One of the most underutilized characters in Buffy was Ethan Rayne. Wherever he showed up, he was the centre of attention and he should have appeared more often than the four times he did appear. Since he shows mastery of magic in every episode he appears in, it was obvious that Ethan reigns as king of the episode. He showed up in Halloween, The Dark Age, Band Candy and A New Man and he should have been there many times per season.

My avatar is of Clem leaving Sunnydale and saying goodbye to Buffy. Neither my name nor my avatar has changed since I joined.

The original White Avenger was a sword & sorcery character that I created for a Lit class in college, and a D&D character that I used all of once, then finally a white 1963 P1800 Volvo that I drove for several years. When W B started their original Buffy fan forum, I used it there, but because of a mistake in typing during registration, it became "wwite avenger." Later, when I came here, it was just the easiest name to remember.

I have changed my name a few times. When I get sick of notifications I switch and they drop dramatically. I don't really like being known but I like to chat on forums and the people who do know me/care catch up quick enough while the others who just want to jump on the like train get lost in the name changes and stop liking posts just cos I said them. I get a bit pissy when people like the post because of the person instead of because of the post. Its like being a fan of a fan in a fandom, its freakin' weird. Switching names was my experiment to avoid that - it works.

Previously I was a bunch of names I probably dont remember all of... the last few being aussie, occaquokka, hoppyhippy... I think Octavia is my 8th name which would make it doubly fitting but I also might not be able to count and it could be my 7th. I chose this one after the character on The 100 after she went all Bloodreina. Lots of fans seem to hate her and how she survived while the anti fans hate The 100. It is just pure entertainment to me and I tend to rub in my love when people take tv too seriously and drive epic hate campaigns against it (like Twilight). It is sad cos the actors in The 100 have had some mental health concerns with the impact of what nasty fans say - the same happened in SPN and other shows since the Tweeter was invented. The character is named after Octavia the sister of Augustus from roman times. I think she had a bunch of statues and got to manage her own money so... #goals. And the actress that plays her seems VERY similar to me - from the active lifestyle she enjoys right down to the domestic violence after mixing booze and meds.

You'll always be Aussie to me :D
While I absolutely adore the BtVS S1 episode The Puppet Show, that is not the origin story. I still remember the first time I saw Smile Time - live, as it was airing - and how loudly I laughed (cackled) when Angel insisted "I do not have puppet cancer!". I was around 18 when I started being active online - this was almost 13 years ago, of course - and everywhere I went I suddenly needed a 'name', like on MySpace, or MSN Messenger, two things I used most at that point. So I started calling myself Puppet Cancer.

Over time, the name grew - and eventually shortened - until it was simply Puppet. Signing up for Buffy Boards was funny because the name I had used for a decade just so happened to fit perfectly with this place, as it was Buffyverse oriented originally 😀

I don’t understand the puppet cancer joke, did Angel say that because he was yellow?
@Athene I don't understand the puppet cancer joke, did Angel say that because he was yellow?

The joke was more about his outrage and anger while the rest of the gang were trying not to laugh at his situation. One of them (can't remember which one) mentions that maybe it's some type of puppet cancer (that turned him into a puppet) and Angel says that phrase from my previous post with irritation.

Yeah I think it was Lorne who mentioned that Angel might have some type of puppet cancer... :)
