The actor Val Kilmer has died

Val Kilmer, the actor who starred in Top Gun and Batman while earning a reputation as a Hollywood bad boy, has died aged 65.

His daughter Mercedes told the Associated Press he died of pneumonia on Tuesday night in Los Angeles surrounded by family and friends.

California-born Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered, she said.

That is no great age really, but he has never seemed to look that healthy in more recent photos.

I especially loved him in Tombstone where he very much stole the show (not to mention a line that is quoted all the time), though Top Gun is another favorite. I'm glad he got to be in Maverick, though it was heart-wrenching to see his health issues.

Reduced breathing ability after his cancer treatment/surgery too. Looked through his filmography, I've watched seven of the films he starred in.

Very sad, RIP Val Kilmer.
My aunt died of pneumonia too, it sucks, people underestimate how deadly it can be, especially with underlying conditions.

I am surprised by how extensive his filmography is, as I mainly remember him from films in the '80s. It is sad to die that young; 65 is barely retirement age!

Such a shame. I believe it was Roger Ebert who said he was Hollywood’s most unsung leading man in the 90s. Just a terrific actor, whether that be Doc Holliday or Batman.

I know he beat his battle with throat cancer, but I hope he’s happier now wherever he is.
