So this is happening this month. I'm a jilted, scorned and heartbroken single lady meself, and was wondering if anyone had any awesome ideas how to 'celebrate' and more realistically - get through - Vday this year. I don't want to be debbie downer all day.

I was thinking about embracing it and bringing in some heart cookies to work for everyone and getting some small gifts for the girls in my life that have been there for me through my break up (aka break down).

Anyone have any good movie ideas for Valentines Day. I was thinking I spit on your grave might be a good one to keep my mind from feeling too sad about not having a man, but any other ideas are welcome. Nothing with a happy ending obviously!

Secondly, keep my spirit alive, or attempt to. Are you happily coupled up? What amazingly romantic ideas do you have for the holiday?

Well, if you're looking to get cheered up, I'm probably not the one that should comment on the thread 😛 I guess you could say I'm the soar loser type for Valentine Day, meaning I hate the holiday by association because I never have someone to celebrate with while all my friends gloat about their awesome boyfriends.

On a more joyful note, the cookie idea is awesome. One thing that has always made Valentine's day better is that my dad gets me chocolates. That's very sweet, makes the day a bit better, so maybe spend it with some family member?

I spit on your grave is a pretty good idea for a movie! Anything horror is usually a pretty good bet, but again I love that kind of movies. I just saw American Mary and I'd also highly recommend that one, it was so gruesomely awesome, and along the same line of I spit on your grave but slightly more along the lines of old school horror/drama and not slasher.

Unfortunately I do not have anything planned. I will probably go out with some of my single friends to help keep good spirits.
The cookie idea sounds great. Giving to other people always makes me feel better.

Well, to completely rub salt in the wound I work as a waitress and will be working. So outwardly I need to be super pro-love! Haha, I even have a love heart shirt to wear 😛

Haven't seen American Mary yet so will have to give it a go!

Anyone have any good V-day themed cookies/cupcakes?

I think it's just a holiday invented by consumers in order to sell cards and chocolates. I'm usually single around this time of year, so that'd kinda explain my dislike for this holiday. But still, if you love someone, you should show them every day, not just one day a year. It's just a bit pointless if you ask me haha.

As for what I'll do on the day, I'll just indulge myself with a massive PS1 gaming sesh (yes, I still have my PS1, and it's currently hooked up to the TV in my room 😛).

Self love is just as important! Have fun!
Skip Valentine's Day and celebrate Galentine's Day instead. [HASHTAG]#InKnopeWeTrust[/HASHTAG]

I always hated Valentine's Day when I was single- I thought it was commercialised and pathetic and an excuse for shops to sell truly tacky tat that no-one wanted during the rest of the year. Then I got into a long term relationship, and realised that I still hated Valentine's Day for the exact same reasons. So, my boyfriend and I will be celebrating it in our traditional way- by steadfastly ignoring it's existence.

I would definitely go the route of horror films- what better way to acknowledge a holiday built around heart imagery, than by watching hearts get stabbed, ripped out and generally stopped in creative ways!

Sounds fun!
I HATE Valentine's Day with a passion... I've always felt like it's the most stupid holiday, designed to make single people feel worthless. I usually end up eating fondue with my mom since we're always both single. This year she wants us to spend the week-end at her friend's house in the woods. There's a festival or something near his house so we could do that on Saturday. Otherwise I'll just spend Friday hating on everyone (I'm always really chipper that day.....)

Do you watch House of Cards? Season 2 is released on Valentines Day; should make for some excellent binge watching. I plan on having a girls night with some wine and cheese while watching.

As far as fun sweets to give away I enjoy making chocolate covered pretzels. You can switch up the color combos to fit any holiday and they are pretty easy to make; plus they are typically a hit when given as gifts. 🙂

Fantastic idea!
I've been with my husband for almost 11 years and we never really celebrate Valentine's Day. My kids are learning about St. Valentine. Sometimes the husband and I go out to dinner, but we do that anyway. It's a very commercial holiday as are many these days, so we don't make a big deal out of it. Neither of us is terribly romantic, either!

Screw a horror film, watch Buffy! Just go right through your favourite season or all your favourite episodes.

I don't like Valentine's day much to be honest (I did a blog post last year pretty much panning it) but it's just the modern version I don't like, when I was like 10 it was a bit better. Remember being at school when it was all about those secret crushes? Sending anonymous cards (unless you were really brave and signed it) to THAT girl/boy, you know the one? That was what Valentine's day was about and it was way better then, not least because school gave you the materials to make the cards with instead of having to spend what is a pretty scandalous amount of money on a piece of folded pink paper.

Back when I was in first year of residence at university (I was 18yo), we made valentine cards for everyone on our floor (and we weren't the only ones that did that!). I guess old school Vday is not dead after all. I had completely forgotten about that until you mentioned giving away cards 😛

Bravo! This should be a whole thing, "alternative Valentine's day" or something.

I forget the episode, but there was one where Angel came back to Drusilla and presented her with a heart, saying, "I found it in a quaint shopgirl." I can't seem to find the episode it came from. Anybody know?

That would be the ideal Buffy-Board valentine gift.

It was "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". The episode was set around Valentine's Day.

I personally see the 14th for the soulless commercial ploy that it is!
