Vampire Animals

:thought:Listen, I've got a really important question to ask. Can species other than humans be made into vampires? Are there any vampire dogs, cats, monkeys? Because I would just love to see Buffy take on a vampire squirrel that keeps leppin' outta trees to take a bite out of unsuspecting passers-by.

I personally don't think that a vampire would even want to drink a squirrel's blood. Sure, Angel and Spike had their fair share of pig's blood, but that wasn't a choice. They either had to or go crazy without blood. Plus, I'm not sure many animals are smart enough to bite an animal and then have the animal bite them back.

I'm not trying to down your question, which is a great one and may cause some arguments and loss of crucial limbs, but you know my opinion now.

it would prolly go with the question of whether or not animals have souls. *shrugs* good quessie though. hahaha a vampire squirrell would indeed be funny.

I don't see how they could be turned to begin with. Sure, you could get a dog or cat or something carnivourous to maybe lap up vampire blood to turn then but they really don't have that sucking ability.

I just think logistically, it wouldn't be possible but who knows?

Good question. I believe some vampires do, on occasion feed on animals like maybe when they're trying to avoid being discovered by humans for a prolonged period of time, like when they travel long distances by boat, I doubt that many of their fellow passengers would volunteer to be drained, plus a steadily dwindling number of passengers/ship's personnel would tend to cause suspicion. (did anyone ever notice that there were almost no dogs or cats in Sunnydale? Granted, a large portion of the show's action takes place at night, when all good puppies and kitties are at home snuggled safely in their beds, but still...) or they're injured and can't hunt properly. Granted, the idea of getting blood seemed to never occur to Angel until Whistler suggested it to him, but Angel has always been more cunning than intelligent. He DID, however, know that he could subsist on rat blood.

Well it actually depends on the mythology...like I doubt they have vampire animals in the Buffy world but say if you look at Blade they had vampire animals and I believe they have vampire animals in Anita Blake and many other myths

They also had vampire dogs in one episode of Forever Knight, a TV show from the mid-90s about a vampire police detective. Presumably they could bring across other animals too...

I think it would be awesome to see a vampiric squirrel in the Buffyverse. And I assume it could happen, given that a vampire drank the blood from the animal and then poured its own blood into the animal's mouth.

don't remember reading anything about vampire animals in the Anita Blake-verse. they have wereanimals...Werewolves, wereleopards, werehyenas, weretigers, werelions and so on, but the lycanthropy virus cancels out the vampire virus...you can't be both, unless of course you're Anita and then you can just be everything, lol.

not sure about vampire animals thing. it does have a lot to do with do animals have souls? and then of course you have the problem of cross species blood donation. a vampire, a vampire that used to be a person, would have to sire the animal in question, say a squirrel, since it's already be mentioned. the vampire would have to feed on the squirrel, and then the squirrel would have to feed off the vampire, drinking in their blood. would that cause any kind of reaction? i know Angel and Spike have drunk rat and pig's blood, but aren't they supposed to be the closest thing to human? what would happen if it was something completely different?

Since we haven't seen Vampire Animals in the Buffyverse yet, I'm going to assume they don't exist. But many other Vampire-stories do have them.

I guess that if you look at it from a biological point of view, you could say vampirism is like a virus. As far as I know, virusses always have a limited group of species that they can succesfully infect. Sure, some maybe able to target a lot of species, but I doubt there's one virus that could infect EVERY single species. Given that the vampire-virus can infect humans, the further a species is removed from the homo sapiens, the less likely it is that the vampire-virus could infect it. So vampire reptiles or fish not very likely. Squirrels, rats, could be fun, but prolly not. Dogs, cats, wolves, maybe, who knows. Vampire apes, wouldn't rule it out.
