Demons are definitely more prominent in Angel. 43 episodes. So in total of both series combined there are 82 Demon centric episodes, meaning they are more prominent to the franchise as a whole. I was a bit disappointed in this as hey Demons are the main villains in Supernatural and Charmed, the other two great American supernatural series. Let Vampires have Buffy and Angel god damn it!

Not surprisingly Vamps are more prominent than most other monsters, but again it's a shame that they are less prominent than Demons.

That is surprising! I definitely sensed in both shows that they felt they needed to have new twists to the villains, and that's why they moved toward having more non-vampire demons.

I like that you took the time to make this list.

I think that the concept of Vampire Slayer gave an in to this world of evil, but as the writers began to focus on story, they realized that demons symbolize personal struggle in an easier way to express than just merely vampires.

And in the intro for seasons 1 and 2, it’s stated: “In every generation there is a Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.”

So in the first 3 lines of the entire series (and repeatedly throughout the first 2 seasons) it’s explained that she doesn’t JUST hunt vampires.
