Vampire Detectors at W&H

Why did W&H have vamp detectors? Was it because of Angel? They had vamps for clients as we saw in "City Of" so it couldn't have been that they didn't do business with vamps, right? Was it ever made clear? I recently watched the S1 dvds, but I don't remember a specific reason being given.

I think it was in case they were trying to tell the lawyers they were human... I mean a vampire could tell that they were or weren't fellow vampires but normal humans couldn't... also I kind of got the feeling that the detectors only piced up souless ones that feeling comes from every time they detected one it didn't seem to be Angel (I could be wrong there though so don't kill me if I am it's a theory) anyway, it may have been to detect Angel but I never thought it was.

I think they had detectors for all sorts of evil. In S5 Angel tells them to do a sweep of the building to find some evil, cant remember if its vampires or not though. If they had evil clients the detectors would of noticed them but they would of been okayed im guessing.

Yeah. I think they had detectors for all sorts of mystical beings/forces. As I recall Lindsay said something along the lines of "there's an unauthorized vampire in the building" in S1 so perhaps they had a way of tracking the ones they wanted in the building.
