What was your opinion on the finale??

For me, some aspects were nice to see and others not so much.

Loved:
- Bonnie getting her magic 'back' and being helped by all the Bennett witches
- Elena coming back
- Damon not giving up on Stefan
- Stefan not giving up on Damon
- Seeing a lot of the cast return for one last time
- Enzo being Bonnies guardian angel almost
- The Stefan and Damon reunion in the afterlife
- The possibility of Klaroine

Not so much love:

- Nina Dobrev's terrible wig
- Elena looking so different it was almost like a completely different actress was playing her
- That Stefan had to die
- The seemingly rushed ending where you get a small snippet of their future lives and then they die and being reunited with family
- The complete lack of believability of love between Elena and Damon. Nina was at least showing some enthusiasm, Ian looked like he was going to catch something from her if he went too close. Very odd to think that after years of separation and the fact that everything Damon did to get Elena back, that their reunion would be one little hug and a barely there kiss.
Yes, I understand their real life history, but their characters deserved an ending better than that awkward presentation.
- Caroline getting her 2 minutes of happiness with Stefan
- Enzo not coming back!
- The show turning half its cast back into humans

To be honest, I found the 8th season by far the worst out of the entire series and I struggled to watch the majority of it. I didn't like the siren storyline, the brothers turning evil again, their constant 'am I worthy of redemption' saga that never seems to end. Overall it was a very dark season and I mean that literally. I missed some daylight shots and at least some happy moments. It was mostly set in the dark with very little lighting etc.
I also don't like the character development path that Alaric went down. I would have preferred for the twins to not have existed as I felt this really limited his character. He was always going to choose his kids of everything else.

What I would have liked to have seen:

For all characters to have survived; including Stefan and for Bonnie to be able to bring back Enzo so she can have the happiness she always looked for.

I would have liked to have seen a proper reunion between Damon and Elena and also for the 3 girls to have a chance to catch up onscreen.

I would have preferred for them to leave the ending hopeful and open ended. I'd rather the prospect of them living their lives as opposed to knowing that they lived happily ever after as humans and then died to be reunited with their families. As an audience sometimes it's better to be given the chance of interpretation as opposed to having everything spelt out.

With the way the series ended, it almost makes a rewatch (for like 4th or so time) redundant.

Honestly I really dislike this finale. I am so disappointed. I did not feel good emotions, just anger. I'm angry because Stefan died, Julie Plec has completely shit on the Steroline and I don't digest it ! Damon and Elena don't exchange a word, so pathetic ! I have the feeling that I lost my time with this serie, now I'm done, I will never watch it again !

Was it still being broadcast? It went off the air here years ago. The series was like Lost, it kept going for too long. I thought it should have ended during season 5.
It started to look like the scriptwriters just didn't have a clue and would include false or ludicrous characters. Like the idiot scriptwriters for Sleepy Hollow had the headless horseman ride a white horse and be one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. In many religions throughout the world the rider of the white horse is Jesus Christ. There wasn't a headless horseman, also the headless horseman known as death rode a pale green horse.

I'd be interested to see what crap the writers in Vampire Diaries have the Siren's as being.

My wife and I enjoyed seeing the characters come back as well. But honestly, i can't count how many times i yelled. 'This season is so shit! The dialogue makes me want to turn the TV off"

While watching it, I definitely felt the emotion and even teared up a few times, but overall the finale had a lot of plotholes and I most definitely did not get the ending that I wanted. While that is okay, because there is no way for the writers to make sure all the fans get what they want, I still felt like a lot of the characters got totally gyped with this ending.

Let me just start with the Stefan of it all. Are you kidding me? Really, he had to sacrifice himself and his happiness so Damon could get his happy ending again? Damon was finally growing on me these last few seasons. I felt like he was finally redeeming himself and if he would have been the one to die it would have completely redeemed him. He would have finally atoned for all the crappy things he has done in his almost 200 years. I was really touched by him being determined to be the one to die and compelling Stefan away. At least, I can know that he did try to be the better man. But, it really disgusted me that Stefan told Elena that Damon was the better man. For starters, it's just a false statement, second Stefan was a much healthier option for Elena. Either way I wish the brothers had died together or it had been Damon. But, I guess what they did was just prove that Stefan really was always the hero and the better man, so I guess I can live with him dying and then reuniting with Lexi which definitely brought me to tears.

The Stelena scene was beautiful besides his remark about Damon being the better man. Paul and Nina have so much chemistry and really brought their A game for this scene. I definitely wanted a Stelena ending, but I understand that there was no way that was possible since Plec has a hard on for Ian and Delena. But, in a way I think we got more of a Stelena ending than Delena. Their interaction was nostalgically touching and then she sat by his grave and said she owed her whole life to Stefan.

I am happy that Caroline is moving on with her kids and that Steroline wasn't truly endgame. I saw no romantic chemistry between Candice and Paul. They had amazing friendship chemistry. But, romantically it just wasn't there. I'm glad to see that she is focusing on her girls and she didn't have to live a life with a man who was always going to love her second. Because for Stefan it was always going to be Elena. Idk how I feel about Klaroline. I used to be a big shipper of them, but I kind of don't want any of the TVD crew on the originals. It's a more adult show and if these TVD characters go over there it will end up being all about ships instead of family and supernaturals.

Bonnie Bennett is my favorite. I loved that she defeated hell with her ancestors and is now getting the hell out of Mystic Falls to live her life. Her ending was definitely the most satisfying for me. She has her magic and her whole life ahead of her. Finally, the writers did some justice by her.

What was up with Katherine? She was my favorite villain and favorite character until I switched to Bonnie in the later seasons. She was so smart and conniving that I find it hard to believe she would allow the brothers defeat her, let alone repeatedly stab her? I really wanted her to somehow survive. I mean she outsmarted Klaus as a human, how the hell could she not outsmart these two?

Also, Katherine stayed "dead" for a long time with that dagger in her. Both the brothers could have easily survived this. I guess Plec was hell bent on screwing Stefan over. (Yes, I'm still bitter 5 paragraphs later, lol.)

As for the Delena reunion, I felt it was appropriate considering they were at Stefan's funeral. And honestly I'm okay with not having some great romantic reunion between them considering I loathed that romantic pairing more than any other pairing on any TV show ever. But, I guess from a writing perspective they should have at least exchanged a few words...

Overall, it was better than I expected, but still dissatisfying.
