Vampire Lestat to be a big-time Broadway Musical...

not to get too offtopic here, but it seems we have lots of Anne Rice fans. Did anyone else hear that she's ending the vampire chronicles?! She has one more book that's going to come out, and it's over!

I'm quite a fan of Anne Rice's earlier work, but I have no problem with ending the Vampire Chronicles (VC). She's explored each of the vampire histories and sub-plots very well, and I think it's time to close things off.

:stepping onto my soap-box for a moment:
I have had one issue with Rice's characterizations, and it's been more bothersome to me in each of her subsequent entries into the VC. She seems to have a problem writing heterosexual male characters. Every male in her work is either gay or bissexual. Let me say that I have no problem with a gay male character, and I understand the pseudo-sexuality of the otherwise nonsexual vampire race. I just feel this heavy-handed practice (which extends to her mortal male characters) is an expression of her internal prejudice. To me it betrays the author's hand in creating this world every time I see it.

Anyone else out there notice the same thing/feel the same way?
 
Yeah, I noticed that too, and I totally agree with you. I was just shocked to find out she would finally going to end it. I hope she includes all the vampires in it, but we'll all hafta wait and see
 
I totally agree with you there.

In fact, I haven't been interested in the books since the one featuring Armand. I want to hear graphic descriptions of gay sex even less than I want to read romance novels. And I have small liking for romance novels. That last statement is a matter of taste, not prejudice.
