Vampire shows since Buffy and Angel

I absolutely hate Twilight with a passion. Nice to see lots of people here do too! I mean, for starters Stephanie Meyer didn't even stick to the classic vampire traits. You didn't even see Edward with fangs in the film, nor did he flinch in the sunlight. What did he do instead? He sparkled. SPARKLED. Seriously what would possess anyone to write something like that? I could go on and on about all the things wrong with Twilight but alas, I'll spare everyone the rant. I've heard a lot of positive things about True Blood though, I might consider checking it out! 😀

Most definatley check out True blood, very adult though so be warned!
I like Twilight, but there's a but.. I don't like the 'fact' in Twilight that vampires glittering in the sun and are vegetarians. And Edward doesn't like he's 17 but 25 and he isn't perfect like the book says. Don't get me wrong, I like the story but this is how I think about it

I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again, but I like Twilight vampires. (They're probably the only thing I actually like about Twilight, now I come to think of it, but since they take up a significant part of the story that's fine by me.) I like them better than Joss' vampires. They're more consistent. But Twilight was never meant to stand up against Buffy. The books are a fun, fluffy read, and the movie is as close an interpretation of the books as ever I've seen. It doesn't seek to do new things with the medium. It doesn't even seek to do new things with the vampire lore. It exists to tell the story of the book on the screen. And that's ok: if you like the books then you'll have fun with the film. But Buffy was never about any of that stuff. Buffy's core premise was to invert expectations, to have a character based drama with vampires. Twilight's is to play to expectations, to have a vampire based drama with characters.

I'd agree, but the problem is, Stephenie Meyer and the vast majority of her hardcore fans don't seem to realize that the series is fluff. Why do you think it's referred to as a "saga"? They think it's a legitimately good piece of literature, and unfortunately, because they are the most vocal Twilight readers, their opinions are the ones that get reflected in society the most. If Stephenie and her fans admitted that it was drivel, people (like myself) who think the series is crap wouldn't have to feel the constant need to reflect our opinions. As for the "sparkling vampires" thing, I don't think that's the reason why the series is bad...it just happens to be the easiest (and catchiest) way to attack it without going into it too much.

I can't give you reputation at the moment, but I agree with that =]

The Buffy/Angelverse is like my religion. Nothing's gonna top it. Twilight will certainly never come close.
Idk if anyone here has read Cirque du Freak. It's more for a YA audience but it's a really good series, movie's coming out next year at some point, I'm only somewhat excited towards it. 😀

Honestly, it's truly hard for me to think of Buffy and Angel as "vampire shows", because the mythologies involve so much more than just vampires, and the vampires are kinda lame as HELL. Seriously, Joss Whedon's vampires blow. I mean, deformed dog faces? Not to mention the fact the actual souls of the people apparently move on and it's just some vague demon who inhabits the body and gets some memories from a life they never lived. Slayer lore, the demons, along with the vampires...basically the way the whole universe is set up, I don't think of Buffy as a vampire show. They're just an element.

But anyways I am a big True Blood fan. The acting can be a bit cheesy and laughable at times but it's one of the most fun shows on TV.

I may check out The Vampire Diaries this fall, who knows, it might be watchable. I do prefer the books over the Twilight novels.

i know, i don't see buffy as a 'vampire' show
Theres a new film out called 'let the right one in',a swedish film
by director TOMAS ALFREDSON,about a young boy who befriends a vampire girl called Eli,and critics are saying it blows
twilight, blade, interview with the vampire etc out the water.
Have not seen it yet,but sounds good.
Its based on the bestselling novel by john ajvide lindqvist.
I will watch the film, and read the book.

First of all, Twilight isn't a show... it's a book series and a series of films. Anyway, I'm pretty indifferent towards it, but definitely think that is highlt overrated.

True Blood/Southern Vampire series are definitely very good, and I highly reccomend them!
