Another one of those odd thoughts that course unfettered through my brain:

Why don't vampires, at least the ones who have been around long enough to shake the grave dust out from between their toes, wear some sort of stake proof equivalent of a Kevlar vest? Since the Slayer's primary weapon of choice is a simple piece of wood, it would only be logical to protect themselves in that way.

I was thinking this the other day..it is strange that they havn't done it!
I've thought about this before, too, but I've come up with an answer. Even though it's almost certainly for the writers' convenience, I like to think that vampires are just cocky. After all, they've got all that super strength and such, so after a little while, they're bound to start feeling indestructible.

dammit, I didn't refresh and you've said much the same as me, oh well, kudos on the minds thinking alike :)
..and why don't they have their cars fitted with that fancy W&H glass so they can drive around inconspicuously?

But for the vest question - don't most vamps sort of have that "I'm so awesome and evil and indestructable" ego thing going on that they would never view the Slayer as enough of a threat to them to warrant wearing namby-pamby protective vests?

I would be the wussy vamp in the shielded car, wearing a steel vest and steel neck brace (to avoid any chopping off of the head).

I imagine that glass is expensive so perhaps they cant afford it?
I mean how incredibly ironic would it be for immortal beings to walk around safe-gaurded from one of the only 3 things that could kill them?! I've no doubt that any vampire that even attempted this would be so looked down on and taunted by all the other vamps. It would just be laughably wussy... huumans can be killed by inumerous things and most don't walk around shielding themselves from a single one of them.

Kemy agrees: Still fire, beheading and sunlight to deal with

Fires, beheading, and direct sunlight might still be effective against the vampire, but a bullet to the chest isn't the only thing that will kill the average police officer, either, but the vest still would protect from stakes. That's the most commonly attempted way to dust a vamp.

Sure, but at least if they are going out to fight the slayer they could get their bullet proof vests out? Just like maffia people and police. They don't alway wear protection but they do when they know they can expect trouble, right? It's (apart from the fact that it's most likely just for the convenience of the writers) an interesting question. I would do it, if I knew I could run in to Buffy. And, obviously, I wouldn't tell anyone. I wouldn't want to be treated like a big wuss 😉

All of the police personnel, even the ones on office duty, who come to our martial arts studio wear their Second Chance vests under their shirts constantly, even when off duty. They're no more visible than an ordinary tee shirt.

I guess at least that part makes sense... I trust that the necrowhaddayacallit glass is too difficult and/or expensive to create to be available to the average Joe Vampire, so it remains a gadget of the both financially and magically affluent execs of WR&H (and, probably, a select few of their top clients). Thinking about it... the mere existence of the material could quite probably even be a well-kept secret - after all, if it were a well-known commodity, shouldn't Angel have known about it when he entered his new office? If stuff like is known to exist at all, our favorite evil law firm will have it, and Angel should know that.

Wearing such protection would cause them to lose the fight i think, i am sure any serious kevlar vest limits wearer agility.

Buffy's just going to rip it off them anyway, probably beat em' in the head with it. I think they'd rather have lower encumbrance so they can run like chickens faster. Though only a handful are even smart enough to do that!

Some I'd imagine have done so in the past, not all vamps are noodle heads, that gem of Amara(?) thing/ring Spike steals seems to be the ultimate in vampire support.
Go ahead and stake the heart and throw em' out into the sunshine; they'll be just fine.

When the vamps are young they seem pretty new to their power and are kind of ignorant with an air of invincibility. The older they get the more arrogant they seem to become and take dumb risks. (look at Kakistos, he chuckled when Buffy staked him)

Thats a good thing for Xander and Willow. 🙂

or maybe it's against their rulebook, I dunno. 🙂

I should imagine the vamps probably think "it's a big world, what are the chances of me actualy meeting the one girl in all the world that hunts us?". I assume there's not many normal people that go around killing vamps besides ones that know the slayer

good point, not much unlike unprotected sex and condoms/abstenance. call it the other guy should die delusion.
i imagine vamps haven't bothered to try to protect them seleves with stake proof armour or other such products because lets face it, your the living dead, imortal bla bla bla but most of all your one cocky s.o.b, if i do so happen to come across the one girl in all the world chosen to hunt us, big deal i'll kick her ass and drain her blood till she's bone dry, "aint no slayer gona kill me"

thats just how i imagine a vampire to look upon issue such as these

i mean lets face it if you yourself were turned into a vamp do you not think that somewhere along the line your going to become cocky and think that if you did get into any trouble... hey i'm a vamp now supper strength martial artness i don't need to worry bout no trouble now

i no i would 😛

I'm not sure I would, but the monster wearing my skin pj's would likely think so....super strong, check. Super resilant, check. super overestimating my new monster digs in a mortal world, check. I see what your on about :)
