Has it ever actually been established as to where vampires rank in the demon community? Granted, certain extremely powerful vampires, Spike, Angel, and a few others, seem to strike fear in the hearts of demons in general, but does that apply to all vampires? Illyria refers to vampires as being "halfbreeds," beings neither fully demon or completely human, and that's about as fair a description as any, but does the demon community as a whole see that mixed breeding as an advantage, or a disadvantage?

Anya said in Season 3 that everything that they were dealing with at that time were the result of crossbreeding between "real" demons and humans in ancient times, but that was so long ago that the various demons of today have evolved into distinct breeds/types/races or whatever, all but the vampires, who are, essentially, always the first generation of their species, the result of the "mating," (sharing blood while tha human victim dies) of a vampire and a human.

Maybe vampires as a species are looked down upon by 'proper' demons, unless they have built up a reputation like Spike and Angelus have done. Just an idea :/

That's what I was going to say, and I think that was established in the show although I can't remember where/when.

It's been established in the show that for the most part demons and vampires don't get on. Something about how they're 'impure' by the human aspect of themselves and their need for human blood. (I think Giles may have said it at one point.

In "Hero" the Scourge certainly don't seem to have much respect for them. Nor the demon biker gang in "Bargaining". I think it's got to do with what's been said about certain vamps with rep, but at the same time it depends on the species, or individual demon: some are afraid of vampires because they're just timid by nature. I think in AtS S4 when everyone's crowding around Angelus, asking for autographs and stuff - I think that doesn't really ring true. I think a lot of demons would think nothing of even the most infamous of vampires.

Always felt that Vampires were seen as freaks even by other demons. Being part human and all. Some demons were scared of Angelus and Spike, but that was mostly because they heard stories about them. That or it was weak and peaceful demons like Merl 🙂
