Vampire's Invitation

Just finished reading Issue #9 of "Buffy," and the scene where Spike and Buffy bust into Andrew's home just made me wonder:

Is the admonition against Vampires entering a private residence still in effect now that magic no longer works? Not specifically Spike entering Andrew's home, because almost certainly there had been an invitation at some time in the past, even though we never saw it. But in general, since the blocked threshold can be seen as nothing except pure magic, how could it possibly still work?

And, for that matter, even if the spell still holds true for regular vampires, does it also work against this new breed of zompires?

Very good point... I think if magic doesn't exist then the invitation clause has been broken. What else would stop a vampire from entering but magic?

I would say that yes, the invitation thing is still necessary. Remember how Buffy had to invite Spike into the party? And we haven't heard of wholesale Zompire invasions, so I'd say that part of the magic is intact.

Huh, this is an interesting point. As [MENTION=10354]VisionGirl[/MENTION] mentioned Spike needed to be invited to the party (I'll just take your word, I've never read the comics). However, it does seem very magical. Buffy and Willow were able to perform some kind of magic to un-invite Angelus, and I guess Spike, into their homes. Yeah, and they also did it for Cordelia's car. There's definitely magic involved I reckon. This is a tricky, very tricky, detail.

I remember Scott Allie mentioning this way back when Season Eight ended. Something about how certain tenets of vampire lore would still hold even though there's no magic. Like how the sun can still hurt vampires, vampires still need an invitation to come in, etc. It requires a certain stretching of the imagination, but hey, it's not my story...😛
