Vampires: Why are they sexy?

First of all, Jill Valentine gets my award for fantastic question starter . . .
Second, I think vampires are most sexy because they're supernatural; so, if they're good-looking at all, the sheer euphoria of immortality, swirling dichotomies (dead vs. alive), and so forth just tip the scale. Something like if Brad Pitt sucked people's blood, er . . . anyway.

This is just a spew of thoughts so don't expect consistancy.

Joss said, and I agree, in all horror films the demons, monsters etc are representations of sexuality. Think of warewolfs, the first one we see is Oz and it represents the stereotypical males, unruly, passionate, animal, savage etc. When we see Veruca she is completly into the wolf thing, unlike Oz, and is far more sexual and deviant.

Vampires themself are seen as sexy because they are immortal, wise and without a soul, meaning without feelings of "right and wrong". Vampires can do something that is normally seen as sexually taboo so it brings about this whole different level to them, they are more free then humans. This immediatly makes them more sexy, even if its not our thing the whole open and able thing is rather erotic and could be a turn on for many people.

They are also passionate and for most vampires there is something there and a reason why they bite or sire someone. Most of the male vampires only bite female ones because it is seen as a sexual act, while they do sometimes bite males it is rare or for other reasons, such as trying to make a vampire army. Female vampires however bite any sex, which is an interesting reflection of humans. Men are a bit worried and edge away from things that may be seen as "gay", although this could be due to social pressures saying this is a terrible thing and the whole 'insults' of "you're gay" when growing up. However women are far more open to holding hands, hugging etc other women as it is just seen as friendly.

The whole siring thing is seen as sexual and is a nice metaphor for sex, the whole exhanging bodily fluid things. When we see Darla or Dru siring they cut the skin above their brests, which is rather overt. However something I realised, the way vampires sire is also kind of how humans get AIDS, so vampyrism can be seen as a STD (okay so thats not sexual but its about sex)

Wow... so very... deep? Too much thinking on your part. Hehe, STD's, I WANT THE VAMPIRE STD! :p
I'd say Vampires are sexy cos they're mainly played by sexy actors...Brad Pitt,Tom Cruise(terrible actor, but some people find him sexy),Eddie Murphy,um...ect.....and of course the lovely James Marsters.I suppose to it's the whole dominating thing that some people go for.Vampires have the power to dominate more so than your average girl/boy.Sometimes even just looking into someone's eyes is enough for them to fall helplessy in love. But the idea of being in love with a vampire&one loving you back...if they are capable of such things(by the way i don't believe in them)the whole possibility of living forever, being free to do as you like and have no feeling of guilt may also appeal to some. And most vamps that are portrayed in films,ect...seem to be really clever. They qoute lines of famous novels, they seem knowlegedble about all things....and also seem to know more about humans than they know about themselves!
That's just my thoughts on it! :hihi:

Most vampires are played by really sexy actors.
Like BrimstoneGurl said, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise(Howcan you think he is a bad actor? When he played Lestat it was AWESOME!), James Marsters, Daivd Boreanaz, Stuart Townsend. And for the girl vamps we have the ever so lovley Julie Benz, Juliet Landu, Aaliyah etc.
They are just so irristisible.

There is also that whole evil darkness which is what makes all vamps sexy. Its what made Lilah so appealing to Wesley and Spike so appealing to everybody lol.
And the very sexy being immortal and never aging a day. The way they sire humans.
Their super senses and strength.

Who hasn't had a time when they wanted to hang with the vamps? The free will to do what ever you want! Its so sexy.

But going right back to Bram Stoker, even before we had faces to associate with Vamps, they were always sexual... The bit where Harker meets the Brides... saints preserve us, if that ain't sexy, sign me up for Nunhood here and now.

Aside from the whole... erm... fluids... thing... and without wanting to cross too many decency barriers...

Had a few hours to mull over this. My thinking? We're all perverts. Not many of us chat about it in polite society, but we all have a preference for either dominance or submission. The Vampire's gotta have a victim. He doesn't just kill them, or smash their stuff like a werewolf, or taunt them like a ghost. The Vampire dominates the victim, big style, and like we've seen in Buffy... Shmucky McBait doesn't necessarily hate the experience, or even resist. So, vamp and victim offer something for everyone, whatever side they weigh in on.

Would also explain why people who are drawn to Buffy and vampire related stories tend to be a little more... open minded... than most other groups...

Jill Valentine - Pervert for the People. 😀

"First of all, Jill Valentine gets my award for fantastic question starter . . ."

I'd like to thank my family, and friends, and Joss Whedon, my biggest fan, and of course ChasingCharisma, without whom this award wouldn't even exist...

Re:

Vampires feed and thrive from the very thing that makes you blush. The very thing that stimulates when your...lets just say, hot and bothered. They're a perfect mixture of timeless beauty and evil. Mesmerizing eyes, Illuminating pale skin, and wonderful white teeth. And in the beat of a heart they can turn into something so vicious and fierce. It kinda beats the whole "What you see isn't always what you get" theory.
Ever felt the warmth of someones breath on your neck? The tickle of someones lips against your skin? Triple that ( I'd imagine). And add on the rush of being dominated. The feeling of being wanted, and desired in more ways than just the norm.
And then theres just the whole combination of sex and violence. Case and point why Buffy always felt the need after slaying. (Funny how slaying always makes you hungry and horny. ) In Dracula 2000, Fright Night, amongst many others, sex and feeding went hand in hand. Look at the sensuality of Selma Hayek in From Dusk Til Dawn 1, and the result and condition.
So I guess all I'm trying to say is: Bite me. : vampy :

been thinking well all that living forever stuffs hot-- you want them to bite ya----honestly when comes to some vamps on buffy I wanna bite em' too!???

Hmmm,vampires are surely impotent though!No blood?no?

Plus they're probably freezing cold to the touch, again a lack of blood...

Non merci! ::disturb:

That's part of why I find it interesting that we find them so attractive. By and large, they seem to be dead from the waist down.

And yet again, may I take this opportunity to say eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww at Buffy's alarming taste for the dead.

Yeah, my attraction ( let alone Buffy's) to vampires disturbs me as well. In fact I just came to terms with the fact that I'm a groupie of the undead. Oh help! Can I be saved?! ::disturb:

Yeah, but there's a big difference between unconsciously being attracted to the concept of a vampire and Buffy's ... fetish... for vampire lovin'.

I really want to stop thinking about that crypt temperature thing, but I can't. For the love of God, somebody make me think about something else...

Are vampires really sexy or are the actors chosen to play them really sexy? I recall this horrible vamp in the S.6 opener that the group and buffy bot was chasing down. I didn't find him the least bit sexy nor any of the numerous vamps that's been on the show's throughout the years but Spike...yeah. Angel...yeah. Of course both of the actor's are terribly hot. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Anotio Banderas, Stuart Townsend,Gerard Butler. Hot actors playing a character. Of course if many of you wanted to cuddle with Wilem Dafoe just because he's a vamp then I guess it is the vampire that makes them sexy.

Okay, but from the other side... why are sexy actors in particular chosen? It's definitely something deeper than just casting choice, there's something intrinsically attractive there.

Ah my secret vampire beloved. Lyle Gorch. Yum. Just James Hetfieldy enough.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Because Hollywood has become completely unorginal and wants to put a "hot bod" in every role?

I mean really look at the older Dracula movies or read vampire books ( Pre Rice). Vampires were described as hideous creatures, deformed and awful--monsters. Not brooding dark hair gorgeous men with biceps big enough to hold your in his tight, tight arms...Hollywood created that and the public being completely vain applauded them for it.

Like I said, going back to at least Bram Stoker's book (and the resultant craze for sexy literary vampires) the vampire has been sexual. The count in Stoker's book isn't described as handsome, but he is sexy as hell. He takes what and who he wants, when he's in the mood. Sure he's older but he's also... experienced... the laydeez don't seem awfully repelled by his advances, neither does Harker seem to mind the three Brides's attentions... In fact, when the count interrupts and saves his life, Harker gives the distinct impression he wanted to see where it lead...

That's almost an entirely different issue all together. Women's want to be dominated/father figure issues. Of course I don't believe that all vampires are portrayed this way but many are.

I completely disagree with the theory that because they suck blood they are thereby sexy. I always found the blood sucking to be, for lack of a better word, gross.

I disagree that vampires are sexy just because they are vampires. If that's true picture someone you're entirely unattracted to and imagine they've been turned into a vampire...I don't think you'll find them more sexy. Tho I just thought about Screech as a vampire and yeah that is mad sexy yo. 😉
