Vampires: Why are they sexy?

EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeWwwwwwwwwwwwwww @ Screechvamp.

I agree that the blood sucking part of it is sort of incidental... but the dynamic of the act is important.

What your suggesting is an Electra complex re: Dracula, and leaving aside how much people love to bash that theory, it's not just girls who recognise how sexy Drac is.

Sure vampires aren't sexy just because they're vampires. (See above EeeeeeWwwww @ Screechvamp) but they're widely depicted as such, suggesting that the collective consciousness expectation of the vampire is of something very sexy. Christopher Lee isn't your classic pin up, but you can't deny that Christopher Lee's Dracula has got it gowin' awn...

The Master looks like an action figure that was left in the sun too long. But even he, and follow me into my incredibly warped mind, is sexy. He's ugly, cruel and again, extremely ugly, but alongside all the menace and, well, ugly, he does have a certain something to him. (EG. When he kills Buffy, or berates the Vamp!Scoobies)

In Buffy the Vampires are deliberately disfigured so as to be instantly recognisable to the viewer but we still find them sexy (See my Vampface thread for proof of that...) so the arguement that they're sexy just because of the actors that play them just doesn't wash. It's in the writing too. There's something in the nature of the modern vampire that we find attractive.

Jesse in WTTH got instant sexy when he got vamped...

I completely disagree especially seeing as how even randomly you mentioned that the master was sexy and you have issues. I still think you're cool though :bunny:

It's 3.45am, my thought processes are messed up. I'll check this tomorrow to see how insane my arguement was...😀

Your argument is stable I just disagree. I don't have the issues most women/men do but if I did I'd prolly think that vampires are sexy for the reasons you listed. I think it all goes back to that people are nuts. If there is a public consensus that vampires are sexy then I must remind you of that wonderful MIB quote "a person is smart, people are stupid". One again...I mean ick the master?.....ewwww *shudder*

Okay, back and a little bit saner...

First of all, you get why I might have problems with being told I have issues based solely on my opinion about a TV character, right? I mean, I'm not exactly Little Miss Balanced, but for other reasons than that...

Second of all...I don't think my reference to the Master was random. What I was trying to say was that modern vampires aren't necessarily pretty, and don't have to be for the sexuality element to be played up. I really think sexy actors are picked because vampires are sexy, not the other way around.

I'm not saying I have an I-luv-the-Master poster in my room. But at the very least, he's sexual. Watch how he kills Buffy. He doesn't just jump out from behind her and take her head off. He waits. He watches her. He steps out of the shadows, completely controls her, and then takes great pleasure in invading her personal space (There's an oddly reminiscint scene in Pitch Black with Riddick/Fry, though Vin Diesel is considerably prettier than the Master) Watch how he treats his followers. He doesn't just rant at them like Balthazar or Glory, he has a wierd... love/ fear thing going on. He's very touchy feely with them. Even the way he moves. He doesn't just lumber around to show us he's powerful, he's creepier because he sort of glides around the sets, and seamlessly alternates between standing away aloof or getting very, very close to the other players...

I agree with you about the Master.

But I must say, the first time I say Buffy vs. Dracula, I fell for him immediately. I was under his spell like Xander was. : drool :

A gentle reminder that everyone has an opinion and a right to have one. Another gentle reminder is that personal attacks on this board will not be tolerated...

Most vampires are sexy, they are.. But I don't get the obsession with Dracula (the one on Buffy).. When my friend saw the episode with him she fell completely in love with him.. I just don't like Dracula and he definetly isn't sexy..

Re:

To each their own I guess. But I became fascinated (if not infatuated) with vampires from literature. I started reading Anne Rice when I was still in Jr. high. And I was intruiged by their actions, their darkness and power to manipulate. So movies/ TV wasn't really my calling.
I thought Dracula was very attractive. A little darker and more mysterious than most of the Whedonverse vamps. Old school. But not unattractive. (Sorry if my opinions offend or disgust.) :: vampire
