I need to vent, really really need to. I'll try not to make this too long winded, but I'm really fed up of people at my school, in the general sense. Not so much of my friends, or of the things they do; I suppose it's more at teenagers in general. More specifically, girls. Okay, now I'm a teenage girl and I'll admit the media has a huge influence of the life of me and most people my age, but in Science today, was almost ready to explode.
Last period, I had science. Our current topic is 'Diet and Energy' and I find it interesting and incredibly easy. I was quite happy when my teacher said we had to write a newspaper article in size zero, considering I want to be a journalist later in life...But then, it all started. Honestly, people in my class are ridiculous. Two photos were put up on the board; one of an anorexic model, the other of a person at normal weight; I was seriously stunned, almost to silence, when almost everyone in the class instantly called the average-looking woman fat. She was most certainly not fat, and I didn't understand how anyone could think that.
What was even more shocking, though, was when everyone started referring to themselves as fat. They're all a lot slimmer than me, and when two of the tallest, most athletic girls in my year started saying how fat they thought they were, I really couldn't believe it. It's not so much I'm surprised that people think thin is beautiful (Though I strongly disagree, I don't think size matters, at all) just that so many thin, pretty girls think they're fat and ugly if they're not under weight. Everyone seemed to share those feelings except myself, my teacher and one other girl I'm friends with. I truly hate how people percieve themselves and each other these days - And it truly did nothing to my confidence, right when I was beginning to feel happy in my own skin, people have to start going on about weight, in their image concious ways. Sometimes, school and the world in general shocks me so very much.
