Another forum I'm on has a thread about the credit crunch.
& some girl on there, who is from an upper middle class family, who has her student loan and gets another £50 a week from mum&dad as well as them buying all her equipment is wondering "why everyone's panicking".
Here's why: I have been looking for a job for the last 3 months. I spend at least an hour a day just looking on the internet for new vacancies, and another hour filling out applications. That doesn't sound a lot but only about 5 more jobs a day in my area that I can do are posted, tops. I have made babysitting flyers, and left them at local nurseries & in shop windows. I have gone to all the shops in town and given them a copy of my CV. And nothing.
So I have to live on £47.95 a week. And guess what? If I DO do any work it's deducted from that £1 for £1, so I'm no better off for covering shifts for friends or whatever (I mean, you'd think they'd let me keep even £5 of what I earn, before they start deducting!).
On this (£48) I have to buy food (which is getting more and more expensive); pay bills; pay my bus fare to get into town to go to the jobcentre (would take me 1 1/2 hours to walk). And then if I've got a few quid left over I'll go out with my friends, and have A drink, or get the bus and have people over.
I'm lucky in the fact that I do some odd jobs for my dad when I go home, and then he gives me an extra £5 or £10 if he can afford it.
So don't YOU lecture ME about how the credit crunch isn't affecting anybody. Or about how I'm too lazy to re-train for a job (because that ****ing costs money too!).
I hate my life sometimes.
