Less than 11 hours after Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell announced a Kickstarter campaign, fans have raised the $2 million necessary to fund a Veronica Mars movie. It's officially on!

"And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up.We better deliver."

"I knew Veronica Mars fans were cool, but I had no idea they could rally with such power. They are unstoppable "” just like Veronica. I will have a permanent blush on my face, feeling so lucky to be associated with this entire thing," says Bell.

I can't even express how cool this is. Seriously, this made my day.

And I completely agree with Faith. Prior to seeing the show, I always thought of Buffy as the best female lead I'd ever seen. And while it's close, I actually think that Veronica is better. Like SMG with Buffy, Kristin Bell suits Veronica so well. Also worth mentioning that I never thought I'd come across a character who could pass Buffy on my "Garth would totally love to date..." list, but Veronica is pretty much neck and neck 😀.

This is just too cool.

I think I like Veronica better, too :)
The goal has been met! It's so exciting!! 😀 Veronica Mars movie! I'm going have to do a Veronica Mars re-watch!!

I was discussing this with Kean earlier and I think it is a preference thing. Both have their strong points but for me Veronica is out in front. The reasoning (off the top of my head) is the way she deals with everything that happened to her.

We could probably go round in circles on the matter a bit like Bangel/Spuffy as there will always be some people that fall on one side of the fence. The main point is we have two great female leads for young women.

One of my favourite things about Veronica Mars was her relationship with her Dad. You never really see a positive single father/daughter relationship shown on tv, the banter between them is awesome. As much as I love LoVe, Keith and Veronica is the standout relationship in the show.

I knew I could trust BB to be all over this mess! I think I am joined with everyone in the astonishment that this even became a possibility (i seriously thought a movie was dead after Rob told us that WB just didnt want it). I'm in love with Rob T and K Bell for even cooking up this idea. Let alone that we SURPASSED the goal in 10 hours. And that we KEEP climbing. As soon as I figure in finances, i may up my $35 dollar pledge to $50 just so I can get a DVD. I'm hoping the kickstarter backers get a special release DVD as opposed to one that is generally distributed.

And I missed the tweet about Backup. I keel Rob. aha.

ps. first post in a while because of VM. I may be obsessed. lol

Love you guys!

They've sold out all but one of their 672 rewards for $500+ donors. Amazing.

I'll bet one of those big-dollar donors was Joss. Too bad his Marvel exclusive will make it impossible for him to direct this.

The good news is that they are working on international donations which is good. Thankfully I have a faithful US friend who will accept shipping if there is any problems.

Just watched the trailer (which will be out later today publically if it's not already leaked somewhere) and it looks bloddy amazing!

It's exactly what I wanted it to be the humor was dead on and all the cast, and there's a Buffy joke in the trailer - a fight breaks out and Veronica says "welcome to Neptune" Piz says "Wow it really is built on a hellmouth"

2014 can't get here fast enough!!

Got a huge smile when I heard the Hellmouth comment. :D
Not only the trailer but it's in there. I'm guessing it's the one people are talking about. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVJhjV3EOY4"]First Look: The Official Veronica Mars SDCC Sneak Peek - YouTube[/ame]

That Ryan Hansen video is the best! :)
So have you checked it out? What did you think?

I bought tickets to see it in the cinema, then didn't go, stayed home and watched it, finished up my rewatch right before hand, had two episodes left then straight into the movie.

I was so happy with it, beyond happy with it. It was so good, had had some really shocking bits like
Gia being killed and Keith getting hit by the car

I wasn't happy with the delivery method through flixster as that doesn't work on tv's or xboxs (in Ireland anyway), but the movie was so worth the wait.

I enjoyed it. I still haven't seen past the middle of S2 of the show but the buzz surrounding the whole film was too much to ignore it. It is certainly very accessible to anyone not completely in the know.

I've never liked any of the core characters (which is why I haven't finished the series) but I really liked everyone in the film. Definitely worth checking out.

Thats really interesting, after watching it I got the impression it wouldn't be a good watch for people who didn't like the show, as it's filled with references and stuff, I was gonna drag a friend to see it over the weekend, so see what someone who'd never seen VM think.

I agree about the characters, as someone who loved the characters (Veronica Mars could be my spirit animal), they were so different now but in a grown up way so it was in a really believable way. So it works for people who loved the characters and for those that didn't as they've changed.

I assumed going in that there would be references that I just wasn't going to get but nothing stood out as being so glaringly in-jokey that I felt out of the loop. I mean, I'd never even heard of Piz and that was totally fine. The film gave me everything I needed to know about him.

Of course, having seen the entire show would add to the experience but not having seen it really doesn't take from it.

Honestly? The only thing that kind of bugged me was the idea that all of these people ended up with people they met in high school. But that's just a pet peeve of mine.

I totally get that, but funnily enough I thought that totally worked, a lot of the people I know from secondary school that would have been in the same social circles as Gia, Luke, Dick et all, are all together and still seem to go on "6th year holiday" every year, it's so odd.

Oh dear god yes! Like, how did you go through ALL OF COLLEGE without making new friends?

Hmm... that's a good point actually. There are like 2 people from secondary school that I still talk too regularly but that core group that operated like Dick etc have retained those people as their core social circle.

It's still a pet peeve though, especially when it is every social circle within the film is doing it. But it's only a tiny thing, not a big deal at all.

It takes all my will power to not comment "It's sad you stopped being able to make friends after secondary school" under pictures on facebook
