Well after being around the board these past couple weeks and reading and posting on some semi-related threads it came to my attention that not that many of you seem to be into Veronica Mars which was a little shocking to me considering that most Buffy people I know love it. Not to mention that its been hailed by many the next best coming since Buffy, including by Joss himself! So i was just curious to see who does watch it. And for those who never have or maybe haven't really heard much about it I think you should really look into it. For one Charisma Carpenter and Alyson Hannigan both had recurring roles in it. Aly is in S1 and 2 and Charisma is in pretty much all of S2 they even have scenes together! Here's a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkDYQt-wRVM. Like I said, Joss Whedon himself is a self proclaimed #1 fan of the show (read an article he wrote about it here: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1114734,00.html. He even made a cameo in S2 which you can watch by clicking here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StdAbIrJCn8

So does anyone on the forum watch it, have an interest in watching it, love it, hate it? What did you think of Charisma, Aly and Joss' appearances on it?

This is a really great promo that gives you a little peek into the show, it was shown at comicon a couple years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNuqjuDWngI

I missed it when it aired, and I heard that many people really liked it. So I bought the 2 first seasons' DVDs. And I have to admit, it was hard to "connect" to it at first. But after watching it all the 2nd time I really started to like it and enjoy it. So now I watch the DVDs every now and then.

Charisma looked hot, Aly was cute and a bit Willow-y in a way, and Joss... he was there for a sec.

VM karma! And you own the DVD's, awesome!
Veronica Mars is great! It got recommended to me by an online friend a couple (many?) years ago. And yes, he is a big Buffy fan too. 😀 I do have to admit that I haven´t watched it as much as I should. But it´s on my list of shows to rewatch, and it´s defintely on top three at the moment. Maybe even the next one after I´ve finished HIMYM. With my lousy memory it´s not like m gonna jump in and have lots of discussions at the moment but I know that there´s more people here that love it. Hopefully they´ll find this thread.

I´ll still watch the promos for season 4 from time to time while cursing at the computer. :cussing:

Kudos for buying it and not regretting it. How was it hard for you to connect to it first if you don't mind me asking? I consider the VM pilots one of the highest quality and most engaging pilots I've ever seen, and just all of S1 is just superb. Have you not S3 yet? They changed the format a little which made it a little less enjoyable to me... it was like in an effort to get ratings they sacrificed the quality a little, but still it was leaps and bounds above most of the stuff on TV that year. And yeah Charisma as Kendall was I think the hottest she's ever been (even if she was a bitch, lol) and Aly as Trina I'm not sure was too Willow-y... maybe if Willow got hit by the Hollywood bug and became really really self absorbed and plastic, lol.

Hurry, hurry!!! 😛

Ugh, I KNOW!!!! Although I wasn't a big fan of the future FBI premise. But there IS "talk" of a possible VM movie (from the lips of Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell themselves!) and the FBI thing will be ditched if that happens, she'll still be in college and all the key players will still be around, yayness!

ahhh Veronica Mars, one of my top five shows of all time (and it's in very fine company)
smart, witty, snarky, clever characters, characters that are fun to make fun of, cool cars, action scenes, romantic scenes, fabulous fringe cast...it's all good, the writing is amazing and Kristen Bell owns the screen
watch it, seriously...do it!

You know I wouldn´t want it any other way. If I haven´t begun in a week it´s time for some serious punishment. ;)

vimping karma :)
I've never watched it, and am not too interested, to be honest. The only reason I might even consider watching it is because of Charisma. But the problem is also that I already watch a lot of shows, and I don't really have exactly much time lately. So when I want to watch somthing new I kinda have to think it might be fabulous. And fabulous for me means either dark, shady, supernatural elements (like Buffy) or extremely funny (How I Met Your Mother) and from what I've seen so far, the show is neither.

I understand the time factor but I agree with Airam. I think you can find 45 minutes to at least watch the pilot. If you don´t like it, fine. But it deserves a chance.
But Cangel you are judging it prematurely dahling! It is most definately fabulous, in fact the only element that VM lacks from your requirements is the supernatural aspect. TRUST ME, I would not lie to a fellow Drogynite! That is what is so great about the show, like Buffy(without the supernatural), it has elements of everything, funny, dark, mysterious, SO funny, witty as hell, incredible writing, depth, great characters, suberb acting... I could go on and on. If anything just give the pilot a chance, you can watch it for free as well as the rest of the first season on the new WB site: http://www.thewb.com/shows/veronica-mars/
And Charisma is spectacular in it, you wouldn't want to miss out on that. When you become hooked and obssesed with the show, you'll thank me

I loved season one, yeah. Season one was great..

Veronica Mars, eh.. Did I mention that I loved season one?

Nah, you know, I started watching Mars, when the first season was just finishing, or had just finished. I went into it, really wanting to like it. And the pilot was great, but I think if I didn't want to like it then I probably wouldn't have continued watching it.

The first season was good, the second season was a bit hmm.. and the third was just shit. Don't get me wrong, it was a good show, and I don't regret watching it, but I think people are fooling themselves when they say its like their 3rd favourite show of all time. In ten years Buffy will still be one of your most favourite shows. Veronica Mars will just be a tv show you once watched. A part of your past, but nothing more.

I love Veronica Mars. Kristen Bell is simply phenomenal.

I think the first two seasons were pretty much completely perfect, and I enjoyed the third season although it was a step down from the previous two.

I think it's the best show to ever air on UPN, and one of the best shows of the last decade, really. Wish it could have gone on longer.

I agree that the 3rd season definately lagged due to the new format and introduction of new characters that were meh and characters they let go that so should have stayed. But I have to disagree about it fading into being just some show I watched, I can say with 99% certainty that in 10 years and I'm thinking forever, it will remain in my top 10.

I LOVE Veronica Mars. I ordered all three seasons on DVD from America and they actually work on my DVD player. Yay. I don't watch it as much now as I used to, but I really recommend it if you haven't seen it, it's awesome. I was upset they didn't do a season 4 but after watching the promo I don't think it would have been as good anyway. I mean no Logan, Mac or Wallace - there's no VM without them!

I have a tendency to state my opinion like its fact. Sometimes its deliberate to wind someone up, mostly I don't even mean it. Its not intentional, its just because I'm magnificent and what I have to say is pure undiluted god juice.

But enough about me.. lol

I don't know what other shows you've watched Airam, maybe you've only seen Buffy, Vm and a load of drek. Which makes VM seem better than it was. Or maybe you just see things in it that I dont, I don't know.

I really don't agree that the change in format was the weak link of season 3. I don't agree because I think it was there in season 2 as well. I just don't think the writers were of an exceptional standard.

If you take Buffy, for example, a large group of the writers on that show went on to write for other great, really successful shows. I havent seen any of the writers of VM go on to better things.(ok I confess! I dont know any of the writers on VM, I betya I'm right though, I feel it in my gut, or you know, there's a twinge in my pancreas)

Personally I think VM season 1 was immense because the Lily character was involved. Even though it was explained from the off that she was dead, she became a growing character in the first season. A character that you began to care for, and like, which of course is a completely doomed relationship, because Lily is dead. And once her murder is resolved that relationship is over.

Thats just an extremely short simplification of what was magical about season one. But it was the edge that the show needed to set it apart from the rest of the pack.

Season 2 had nothing, same with season 3.

Just so its clear, I'm not, in any way, suggesting that season 2 and/or 3 was lacking because it didn't have the Lily character, it was lacking because it had no edge. It was, in truth, a soap opera. There was nothing about it, at all, that made you think, 'woo, this is different'.

God......juice?
Well we may just have to agree to disagree on this one. I could probably go on and one for days about the multitude of VM's redeeming qualities, but I'm thinking that would probably be moot cause I don't presume to be able to change your mind, which is cool. I'm glad you thouroughly enjoyed S1, I do agree that out of the 3 it was most definitely the best because, yes, the "who killed" Lily arc was just awesomely done and Amanda Seyfried rocked that role and made you love her eventhough she was even alive any of the season.
Or maybe you just see things in it that I dont, I don't know.
I'm thinking so. And thats the thing about taste, everyone has theirs. But...
I don't know what other shows you've watched Airam, maybe you've only seen Buffy, Vm and a load of drek. Which makes VM seem better than it was.
... 🙁 I think my taste in TV shows is rather great (same as Joss Whedon's in this case, guess he saw things in it that you didn't too I guess 😛) But it is my taste and I fully accept that, maybe besides Buffy, it doesn't mirror yours. You can look on my "about me" section on my profile in case you're curious to see if we share any other TV loves... I'm pretty curious to know actually.

I'm one of the weird VM fans that actually really enjoyed s3, i liked the college experience Rob Thomas style, i liked the mini-arcs and the mystery-of-the-week stories, plus I love LoVe so I liked watching them angst and struggle to pull it together, I was compeltely amused by things like Gil T. Pardy *snicker* and I always thought the rape arc was one of the best.
yes it had low points too (parker and logan, the hell?) but I enjoyed it WAY more than s2
not that i don't have nice things to say about s2 as well.

I guess it just depends what you're looking for in it, we can't expect every show to be Buffy, nor would i want it to be, but i find the writing to be clever and witty, with just the right amount of snark - i will say this though, the show expects you to know what's going on, it's not very forgiving if you don't know the backstory (IMO) so maybe that's a factor for people that have caught intermittent episodes?
