Vigilance

She finished work at ten and didn't come home? Alarm bells.

I'm willing to give her some benefit of doubt here because the times she was away on business trips was generally meeting clients and when you go away with clients for business, that is often meals and drinks too, so if she was in London on a Tuesday night, had to be back in London at 8am on a Wednesday AND the office was willing to pay for a hotel overnight then I think I would do it.

HOWEVER, I am not a mother, I am not 35 and I do not drink much when I have a business dinner.

this is seriously screwed....

i dont understand how people can do these kinds of things, people like that really deserve to be locked away for ever, hopefully he suffers wherever he is going.

yikes its so creepy, your a top guy edmund, the reality is in some cases the spouses do know but live in ignorance and dont get involved in this case though who knows, im just happy u didnt turn your back and took action you rule man

I really do not want to jump to conclusions but that seems very off. I hope to God that I am extremely wrong.

Yeah, it's giving me the heebie jeebies, too. Hope you're wrong, but I'm afraid you're not.
There's people out there, monsters, like animals gone bad, I really don't see people like that "getting better", I think they should be taken out back, and shot in the head. It's the rules of nature.

We don't either BUT if I hadn't followed my gut in the first instance then the pervert wouldn't have been caught and since I found this out, my spidey sense has been tingling.

I think I questioned you about her when you first told us about this. I couldn't understand how she didn't see the change in her child. Maybe this explains it.

I'm sick to my stomach again.

However, you must also remember that alarming news about someone such as this is bound to set off your spider-sense. Whether it's true or not. Because you do genuinely care for the girl, and if there was any way her mom could have known about it, you would think you should know.

All you can do is sit back and hope for the best to rise out of the situation--that he mother really had no clue.

Of course, the other alternative is to go all Veronica Mars on her ass and get to the bottom of it.

Maybe she kind of knew, but denied it. Denial is a big thing.

This is where my belief that no one has the right to take another persons right is tested to the limit because I don't feel these people should ever be allowed freedom for taking away a childs innocence.
However, I just couldn't ever bring myself to the point of saying someone deserved to die.
I think chemical castration is the way forward.

Yes, you did and I instantly said it unlikely because the mother was away.
The guy isn't saying the mother was there, he is saying she knew thats why she stayed away. Almost like 'if I don't see it, I can believe we're a happy, normal, family'.

He is suggesting that she knew, not thought about it, that it is something they discussed.

I don't see why he would make this up as he has already decided to plead guilty because the little girl has told them everything.

But, I'm just thinking out loud here, chemical castration will hopefully help, and sometimes solve some of the problems, but, there's more ways to abuse people, castrated or not. Saying someone deserves to die for their actions, when I consider them very sick, is a bit far, I admit.
It's just tragic, man. We need to evolve.

To get back at her? I don't know. I'm an optimist, so I guess that's why I'm trying to defend her.

Thats not really his style to be honest.

I don't think he would do something like that, but then I didn't think he was a paedophile.

Anyway, on a more personal note, tomorrow night I am seeing someone about a flat SO hopefully this time next week I will be somewhere other than here.

Well the abuse is often born from a sexual desire, if you follow the idea that paedophilia is about loving children.

some cases its about having power over another human but in most its because children are what you're attracted to.

If you castrate them, you take away that sexual urge, thus they won't prey on their sexual targets.

I do fear though we will never evolve away from this because we all have different things we are attracted to.

In some forms, like paedophilia and even bestiality its a perversion, sickness with in the genetic make up, but its this difference in attraction that has helped to keep our species alive and so diverse.
If wll found the same things attractive that would weed out any differences and we would all look alike and be the same.

THIS is in NO WAY a defence of what this pervert did, but a reason why it will never leave out society.

See? Positive. That's good. Get out of there. Wait, did you like living in that flat? Cause if so, sorry.
Oh man, this is not something I want to read about just before going to bed. But it's good of you to share this with us since it is important that w stay, well, vigilant.
I'm not that much of a "yay, death penalty" person, but there are cases where you just wish something really terrible would happen to a person, involving bbq forks, fire and probably a falling piano. Needless to say this is one of those occasions.
I really hope you can get out of there soon, and get a nice new home with nice people.

I've just happened across this thread. We all know about this, that it happens, but somehow - never being really confronted with it - we (or at least I) manage to sort of convince ourselves that it doesn't. Reading your account was extremely disturbing. That poor, poor girl. She must be in hell right now. And to think that her mother may have been involved? That's so f'ed up. I really, really hope that the pervert is lying and she had nothing to do with it.

I applaud you, sir, for speaking up when you suspected something was wrong. The world should have more people like you.

Me too. I must have missed it somehow when it first went up. Guess the title didn´t got my attention.

First off, all the cudos possible to Al. Great work.

Not like I´ve been in exactly that situation but one summer I stayed a lot with a friend, his new girlfriend and her kid in his house (the girlfriend had an own apartment but stayed over a lot). And since “I´m good with kids” (their opinion, not my own statement) they wanted me to look after the kid from time to time. Which I sometimes did. So one time when I read him a bedtime story in bed (he under the covers and me over it obviously) he suddenly grabbed my arm to get my attention and simply asked “Do you want me to suck your.." well you get the picture. I obviously freaked but tried to stay calm and said that I´d never want that but also asked him why he asked me something like that. I thought it might be something incredibly stupid he´d heard from friends or grown-ups but he told me it was because his dad often wanted him to do. I was in shock but told him that that´s something he should never do. But knowing “experts” would do a much better work with him than I ever could I was mostly just happy I hadn´t made him upset. Got him to sleep and went down to talk to his mother about it. It got reported to the police and I made a statement but I never heard anything about it after that. It didn´t help that the mother was an constant liar and that my friend broke up with her. Last thing I heard about it was that they moved someplace else (changed city). I sure hope the kid is ok.

Hurting kids is the most awful thing I can think of. And people being afraid, especially when a paedophile case gets in the news, means I´ve got my fair share of “bad”/suspicious looks since I work with young kids. Most people are ok with it though. But at one school I worked in I got told by a co-worker that I absolutely couldn´t hug the kids or have them in my lap even if they got hurt and/or sad. Of course it was ok for all the female staff to do so. Since we all know males are indeed worse when it comes to stuff like this. Right or wrong can be discussed but that´s how it can be and if that´s what it takes to make people feel save that´s what has to be done even if I don´t agree with it.

I really hope that this girl (and every other kid that this happens to obviously) doesn´t gets too traumatized and manage to get along with her life the best way possible. And that the parent(s) get the punishment he/they deserve. But I´m not in favour of death penalty.

The pervert has alleged that the mother was involved to the point of knowing what was happening and purposefully staying away on business.

I don't know what to believe on that one as I really cannot think a parent could do something like that.
I´m not saying that´s the case here but sadly it happens sometime. The reasons (not caring? being afraid of the guy? or what ever) I don´t know. But what you said about not wanting to see can be one part of it for sure. I think stuff like that is more common than we hope/want to think. Not just in cases like this but in society as a whole. Violence/drugs etc.
