INT. EDMONSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL HALLWAY "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Dawn, Kara, and Lux walking down the sunlit hall,
each carrying her own books for her next class. Lux takes a
deep breath and smiles.
LUX
It's just beautiful today, isn't
it?
DAWN
I guess.
KARA
I didn't really notice.
LUX
You didn't notice? Look outside for
a second, you guys. The sun is
shining, it's warm out, the air
smells nice and clean"¦
She takes another deep breath.
LUX (CONT'D)
When I woke up this morning I just
got the best feeling that, for
once, nothing bad is gonna happen
today.
CUT TO:
EXT. ABANDONED HOUSE "“ DAY
As the camera ZOOMS IN toward the front door of the abandoned
house, we recognize that this is Rose Manor, the same house
that Buffy went to in B9.02 to save a phony damsel in
distress.
The camera reaches the door, and we
FADE TO:
INT. ABANDONED HOUSE "“ DAY
We travel down a dark hallway and the camera TURNS into one
of the rooms, where we see a figure (Masiya) sitting on the
floor, surrounded be a circle of candles, chanting.
MASIYA
"¦Permissum preteritus effluo!
Suddenly, the candles flare up, lighting the room with a
bright light. The flames subside after a minute, but a ball
of light remains pulsing in the middle of the room. Masiya
gestures with his hand and the light moves toward a small
vase. When the light touches the vase, the vase absorbs the
light. Masiya smiles.
CAMERA ON: The vase, on which we can clearly see Dawn's
picture painted.
FADE TO:

ACT I
FADE TO:
EXT. CONSTRUCTION SITE "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Xander, walking around the construction site with
a man (MR. FISHER).
XANDER
So, my guess is it shouldn't be
much longer before we can begin
putting the finishing touches on,
barring any bad weather or mishaps
with the crew or equipment.
MR. FISHER
That's excellent.
Xander climbs a ladder that brings him up onto some
scaffolding. He gestures for Mr. Fisher to follow him up.
XANDER
If you'll follow me, sir.
MR. FISHER looks warily at the scaffolding.
MR. FISHER
Is that safe?
XANDER
Sure is. I had one of my guys
double check it just yesterday.
MR. FISHER shrugs and follows Xander up the ladder. They walk
a ways along the scaffolding and stop at a hole cut in the
wall, where a window is obviously going to be.
XANDER (CONT'D)
I can show you the second story, if
you'll just follow me in through
here.
MR. FISHER
What about over here?
MR. FISHER walks past Xander onto another section of
scaffolding. Suddenly, the scaffolding collapses, taking MR.
FISHER with it. Xander rushes over to the edge of the
scaffolding and looks down.
XANDER
Mr. Fisher! Are you all right?
MR. FISHER
My leg! Ah, my leg! I think it's
broken! What's the matter with you
people? Safe construction site, my
ass!
XANDER
I'm coming, Mr. Fisher!
He gets up and heads for the ladder, pulling his cell phone
out of his pocket as he does so.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Dammit.
CUT TO:
INT. DORM ROOM "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Willow, poring over a pile of books in front of
her. Or trying. She seems a little distracted.
KENNEDY (V.O)
You okay, sweetie?
CAMERA ON: Kennedy, looking concerned.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
You seem a little distracted.
WIDE SHOT of the room. Willow's still reading, Kennedy's
still watching her.
WILLOW
It's nothing. I've just got this
sense of déja-vu, you know? Does
anything about this demon seem
familiar to you?
KENNEDY
Nothing at all.
WILLOW
See, nothing springs to mind for
me, either, but I just can't shake
this feeling.
KENNEDY
Well, that's the weird thing about
déja-vu. It's just"¦ there. You
can't do anything about it.
WILLOW
I guess.
She puts down the book she was looking at and picks up
another.
KENNEDY
Need help?
WILLOW
Yeah, some help would be great.
She holds out a book to Kennedy, who takes it.
KENNEDY
So what am I looking for?
WILLOW
Anything about the Seraph or Loki's
Box. Actually, at this point, I'm
willing to get any information at
all about Loki himself or Norse
mythology.
KENNEDY
Okay, Seraph, box, myths. Check.
She opens the box and begins to read.
WILLOW
You know who else could help with
this? Amy.
KENNEDY
(Cranky tone of voice)
Oh, Amy.
Willow doesn't seem to pick up on Kennedy's tone. If she
does, she ignores it.
WILLOW
Yeah, Amy. I mean, she's got
nothing else to do. It's not like
has a job to be at or anything. I'm
gonna call her.
She reaches across the pile of books to grab the cordless
phone.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Hey, speaking of jobs and things to
do, don't you have a class soon?
KENNEDY
Yeah, but I can skip it. This is
more important.
WILLOW
No, sweetie, I don't want you to
miss out. Besides, we'll just be
doing boring research. If I were
you, I'd go to class.
KENNEDY
Well, you're not me. I'm staying.
Willow seems a little taken aback at the tone of Kennedy's
voice.
WILLOW
Okay, suit yourself. I just thought
you might be bored, that's all.
KENNEDY
I'm fine, okay?
WILLOW
Okay.
She sets the phone down, apparently deciding not to call Amy
just yet. There's a strained silence as she and Kennedy both
resume their research.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
You know what? Maybe we should just
go over to Buffy's. She's got ore
books there, and, you know, four
heads are better than two.
KENNEDY
Four?
WILLOW
Yeah. (she counts off on her
fingers) Me, you, Amy, and Buffy.
And maybe Xander, if he's off work.
KENNEDY
Maybe.
WILLOW
Let's go.
Without waiting for an answer, she gets up and begins putting
the books in a backpack.
KENNEDY
You know what? You go ahead. I'll
just stay here.
FADE TO:
INT. EDMONSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL HALLWAY "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Dawn, Lux, and Kara, walking down the hall.
DAWN
I'm telling you, I've had the
weirdest feeling all day. It's like
I forgot to do something, or"¦
KARA
I get that feeling all the time.
You're probably just stressed out.
LUX
Yeah. Just go home and get some
rest.
DAWN
You're right. Home. Home is nice.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE FRONT HALL "“ DAY
WIDE SHOT: Dawn, opening the front door, coming face to face
with Buffy, who was about to go out.
Buffy and Dawn (in unison)
Who the hell are you?!
FADE TO BLACK.
ACT II
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE FRONT HALL "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: BUFFY
BUFFY
Who am I?! I live here. What are
you doing?
DAWN
No, this is my house.
BUFFY
No. It's not. I live here.
DAWN
You can't!
Willow enters.
WILLOW
Hey, Buffy, Xander thinks he
might've found something useful.
She notices Dawn and smiles.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Hi.
DAWN
Hi.
WILLOW
(To Buffy)
Who's this?
BUFFY
I don't know.
WILLOW
You don't"”what?
BUFFY
She just walked in here.
DAWN
I live here.
Willow and Buffy exchange looks.
WILLOW
(To Dawn)
Why don't you come in and sit down.
How about some water? Can I get you
some water?
DAWN
No, you can get out of my house.
She walks past Willow and goes to the kitchen without
hesitation.
BUFFY
(Looking toward the
kitchen)
Okay, I don't know what's going on
here, but you can't just walk
around my house like you"”
DAWN (O.S.)
It's my house! I live here!
WILLOW
Okay, clearly we're getting
nowhere.
XANDER (O.S.)
Hey, Will, I think I found
something!
WILLOW
Just a minute!
She walks to the kitchen"¦
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE KITCHEN "“ DAY
"¦and addresses Dawn.
WILLOW
So, what's your name?
DAWN
Dawn Summers. Get out of my house!
I'll call the police!
BUFFY
That's weird.
DAWN
(Sarcastic)
Something's weird? How very
strange.
BUFFY
No, my last name is Summers, too.
Offscreen, we hear the front door open and Lux's voice say:
LUX
Hey, Dawn, here's your history
notes back!
We hear her footsteps coming toward the kitchen. When she
enters, there's silence.
LUX (CONT'D)
Okay, what's going on?
BUFFY
(To Lux, gesturing toward
Dawn)
You know her?
LUX
(unsure of where this is
going, jokingly)
Uh, yeah, don't you?
DAWN, BUFFY, AND WILLOW
No.
LUX
Okay, did you all fall and hit your
heads or something? Dawn, Buffy's
you sister.
DAWN
My what?
BUFFY
Her what? I don't have a sister.
DAWN
I don't either.
LUX
Okay, something is very wrong here.
None of you guys know each other?
BUFFY
Willow and I know each other.
LUX
Okay, so none of you guys know
Dawn, and she doesn't know you?
DAWN
Yeah.
(To Lux)
Would you please tell them to get
out of my house?
LUX
Technically it is Xander's house"¦
BUFFY
(To Dawn)
Ha! Not yours!
DAWN
Who's Xander?
LUX
Nevermind.
(Changes subject)
So, how come I know both of you,
but you don't know each other?
Dawn and Buffy answer simultaneously, as Willow looks on and
Lux tries to listen to both at once.
DAWN
Because she's crazy"”
BUFFY
She just walks into my house"”
LUX
Okay, this is getting us nowhere.
(she turns to Buffy) Okay, Buffy,
tell me how you know me.
BUFFY
You're my professor's daughter.
Duh.
LUX
And you, Dawn? How did we meet?
DAWN
At school.
LUX
Okay. So, Dawn, who do you live
with?
DAWN
Uhhhh"¦
BUFFY
See? She doesn't even know her own
family! Something's obviously not
right up here. (she taps her head)
DAWN
I know I live here. I'll prove it.
She puts down her glass of water and, with conviction, walks
off in the direction of her room.
BUFFY
What is she doing?
The camera follows Willow, Buffy, and Lux as they all follow
Dawn to the door of her room"”
INT. DAWN'S BEDROOM "“ DAY
"”which she throws open dramatically, revealing a typical
teenager's room"”clothes lying on the bed, shoes strewn across
the floor, a magazine tossed on a nightstand, next to a
framed picture of"”wait for it"”Dawn, Willow, Buffy, and
Xander. No one has noticed the picture as of yet, though.
DAWN
See? This is my room.
Buffy looks confused.
BUFFY
This can't be your room. You don't
live here.
Lux spies the picture and picks it up, showing it to Dawn,
Buffy, and Willow.
LUX
Look at this picture, okay?
Something weird is going on.
WILLOW
Maybe a memory spell.
LUX
Maybe.
BUFFY
Willow, you haven't done any memory
spells lately, have you?
Willow looks at her for a moment, then gets what she's
implying.
WILLOW
Of course not! This is not a repeat
of the Joan and Randy Incident.
DAWN
The what and whaty?
LUX
Never mind that. I'm gonna call
Kara. We've got to figure out
what's gong on.
As she turns to leave, Xander enters.
XANDER
Will, I told you, I think I found
something on this demon"”
He notices Dawn, and, not knowing who she is, hurries to
cover his mistake.
XANDER
"”pie recipe.
Dawn looks skeptical.
DAWN
A demon pie recipe?
XANDER (TRYING TO COVER)
Well, yeah, it's like"¦devil's food
cake, only it's a demon, and, well,
pie. But still a baked good.
DAWN
You suck at lying.
XANDER (SARCASTICALLY, TO DAWN)
Thank you. (to Willow) Who's this?
BUFFY
My long-lost sister, apparently.
XANDER
What? You have a sister?
BUFFY
That was pretty much my reaction.
LUX
We think there's a memory-blocking
spell at work here. I'm gonna call
Kara and have her come over. Maybe
we can figure something out.
XANDER
Memory blocking"”what?
LUX
Yeah, think about it for a second.
You don't remember Dawn. (Off
Xander's confused look) Er, Buffy's
long-lost sister. But she has a
room here in this house. It makes
sense that there's a memory thing
going on here. Plus the fact that I
remember that you guys know each
other.
XANDER
We do?
LUX
Okay, I'm tired of explaining it,
so give it a rest with the
questions, okay?
You guys, as a rule, generally
accept freaky things as a part of
everyday life. Accept this, too,
would you?
DAWN
Are you implying that I'm freaky?
LUX (EXASPERATED)
Maybe.
DAWN
Well, being freaky's cooler than
being a freak. My friend Lisa told
me that the day I found out about
Mom"”
She stops, not wanting to dredge up memories of her mother.
Buffy's intuition picks up on what Dawn was about to say
(that her mom died, duh, haven't you been paying attention?)
and says comfortingly:
BUFFY
My mother died, too.
LUX (EVER MORE EXASPERATED)
That's because you guys are
sisters! You have the same freaking
mother!
Buffy and Dawn look at Lux.
DAWN
Jeez, what's your deal?
Lux sighs.
LUX
I'm calling Kara.
WILLOW
Maybe we should get Amy.
BUFFY
Want us to call Kennedy, too?
Willow is already off to find Amy, wherever she may be in the
house. She distractedly replies:
WILLOW
Sure, sure. Whatever.
Buffy looks at Xander and shrugs.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE LIVING ROOM "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Willow, Amy, Buffy, Xander, Dawn, Lux, and Kara
sitting in the living room, surrounded by books. There is a
knock at the door.
DAWN
I'll get it.
Before anyone can protest, she's headed for the door.
BUFFY
Okay, I generally answer my own
door, but whatever.
CUT TO:
INT. HALLWAY - DAY
Dawn opens the front door to reveal Kennedy.
DAWN
Hey, Kennedy.
KENNEDY
Hi.
Buffy enters.
BUFFY
Wait a minute, how come you guys
know each other?
DAWN
Duh, because Kennedy is"¦
She struggles to remember exactly how she knows Kennedy,
before finishing lamely:
DAWN (CONT'D)
My friend.
BUFFY
Something has kept this spell from
affecting Kennedy, too.
KENNEDY
Spell?
BUFFY
There's some kind of spell going on
here, we think, because nobody here
knows who this...
(nods her head at Dawn)
is.
KENNEDY
It's Dawn.
BUFFY
So I'm told.
WILLOW (O.S)
I found something!
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Willow, reading from a book in her hands.
WILLOW
Okay, so a spell like this must
take some major mojo, right? I can
use this spell to trace its
remnants.
KENNEDY
Kind of like a magical bloodhound?
WILLOW
Yeah. And hi.
KENNEDY
Hi.
WILLOW
I think I have all the ingredients
I need. Oh, except for"”
Amy has been reading over Willow's shoulder.
AMY
Oh, sage? I have some of that. I
always make sure I have some with
me.
WILLOW
I know! I usually have some on me
all the time, but last week I
needed it for"”
BUFFY
Uh, guys, the spell?
WILLOW
Right. Okay. So once the spell is
performed, it might leave everyone
affected by it a little out-of
sorts, y'know? So I think we should
send Ken, Lux, and Kara off to find
the source of the magic once I'm
done with the spell.
LUX
Okay, not that I don't adore being
sent into imminent danger"”'cause I
do"”but why us? Why aren't we
affected by the spell?
WILLOW
We might be able to determine that
once we get our memories back.
Until then, we're working blind.
She looks down at the spell book and then nods to Amy, who
EXITS, apparently going off to get the sage.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Let's get cracking.
FADE TO BLACK.
ACT III
FADE TO:
EXT. EDMONSVILLE STREET "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara pushing Kennedy's wheelchair down the
sidewalk. Lux walks behind, holding a piece of parchment that
appears to be glowing.
LUX
Okay, from what I can tell from
Willow's magic map doohickey, we're
headed in the right direction.
She looks up at the sky. The horizon is streaked with pink
and gold, suggesting that the sun has just recently set.
LUX (CONT'D)
I guess this puts us somewhere on
the west side of town.
KARA
Whoa, déjà vu!
LUX
Huh?
KARA
I just got the weirdest feeling of
déjà vu, you know? Like someone
said"”
LUX
Buffy said!
KENNEDY
Huh?
LUX
A couple weeks ago, when Buffy got
sent to that abandoned house that
turned out to be a trap. That was
on the west side of town.
KARA
Rose Manor. I'll bet you anything
that's where this spell was
performed.
LUX
So someone's using Rose Manor as
their Command Central.
KENNEDY
Seems kinda stupid, doesn't it?
Either they've got a brilliant plan
or they don't have a clue as to
what they're doing. Moving around
would make it much harder for them
to be tracked down and caught.
KARA
It's almost like they wanted us to
figure it out.
There's silence for a minute as everyone ponders this. Then:
LUX
Did anyone else just get a really
bad feeling about leaving the
others alone?
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Amy, sitting around
Dawn, almost as if they're interrogating her"¦
XANDER
So, do you have any special powers?
"¦which they are.
DAWN
Huh?
XANDER
I mean, someone's put a memory
spell on all of us. Buffy's the
original Slayer. Willow and Amy are
witches. I'm"¦doughnut guy. Someone
must think you're pretty important,
to put a memory spell on you.
DAWN (SARCASTICALLY)
Well, I sure feel special.
Buffy points to a scar on Dawn's hand.
BUFFY
What's that from?
DAWN
Well, I"¦I don't know.
AMY
Is that your natural hair-color?
Everyone turns to look at Amy. She shrugs.
AMY (CONT'D)
Just curious. I'm thinking of
dyeing mine again.
Buffy, Xander, and Willow nod and say thinks like, "Oh,
okay," and "Hmm".
CAMERA ON: Dawn, looking from one to the other, not quite
sure what to make of this.
CUT TO:
EXT. EDMONSVILLE STREET "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara, still pushing Kennedy's wheelchair, and Lux
still walking along with them.
LUX
So ultimately, we just left a house
full of strangers to fight off
anything that might come for them?
KENNEDY
And to protect that box-amajigger,
don't forget.
KARA
Sure does look that way. I mean,
they're all strangers. If they get
attacked, each of them might think
that the other set them up.
LUX
Maybe we should go back.
KENNEDY
No!
Kara stops pushing the chair, and both she and Lux turn to
look at Kennedy.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
The best thing to do right now is
to try and break the memory spell.
I mean, they all know us, and they
know we'd never set them up.
LUX
That's true.
KARA
I just hope they think of that.
Kennedy begins to wheel herself forward.
KENNEDY
Let's go.
The three of them start off for their destination, traveling
at a faster pace than before.
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn, still sitting in the chair, watching
disinterestedly as the rest of the group talks.
WILLOW
See, I liked my hair short.
BUFFY
That was really cute. And wasn't it
so easy to take care of? I'm
thinking of cutting my hair again.
WILLOW
Really? I like it how it is now.
AMY
Oh yeah, it's definitely cute. See,
I like my hair how it is now.
She rubs the ends of her hair between her fingers.
AMY (CONT'D)
I couldn't pull off the short
hairdo that well. I mean, it works
on some people, but not on me.
There's a lull in the conversation for a minute.
BUFFY
Hey, how'd we start talking about
this in the first place?
DAWN
(Obviously bored)
You asked if this was my natural
hair color.
BUFFY
Oh, yeah. It is kind of weird,
though. If we're sisters, shouldn't
we look more alike?
Xander squints and tilts his head to the side a little.
XANDER
I can see a resemblance.
BUFFY
I don't see it. For one, our noses
are totally different.
DAWN
So?
BUFFY
So, it's weird. How'd we get
different noses?
DAWN
Maybe I got Mom's nose and you got
Dad's nose.
BUFFY
No, Mom's nose doesn't look like
yours or mine. Maybe the nose
skipped a generation or something.
There is a small rustling sound, but no one seems to notice
it. The camera angle CHANGES to a SHAKY, HAND-HELD type
filming method filming from outside, looking in"”to indicate
that someone is watching the Scoobies. The Scoobs themselves
remain oblivious, however.
EXT. JUST OUTSIDE SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ANGLE: through the window.
DAWN
(Muffled)
I think my nose looks like
grandma's.
BUFFY
(Muffled)
Okay, now I know we can't be
related. No way does your nose look
like grandma's.
DAWN (MUFFLED)
(Muffled)
It does so!
The camera angle changes back to normal.
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
We are back in the living room, with a steady, non-shaky
camera angle.
CAMERA ON: Dawn, continuing what she was saying.
DAWN
Have you ever looked at old
pictures of her? I totally have her
nose.
BUFFY
Okay, if her nose looks like
anyone's, it's mine.
The angle changes again to the shaky, hand-held, filming-from
the-outside-in camera.
EXT. JUST OUTSIDE SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ANGLE: through the window.
DAWN
(Muffled)
Okay, maybe you look like great
Aunt June, but no way do you look
like grandma.
BUFFY
(Muffled)
Oh, lovely, just who I want to look
like. A woman who knits caps for
her cats so they can ride with her
in the carpool lane on the highway.
XANDER
(Muffled)
Not that this conversation isn't
fascinating, but don't you think we
should use this time to do research
on that box thing?
BUFFY
(Muffled)
You're right. Sorry.
The shaky, hand-held camera moves away from the window before
the angle changes back to its normal, steady self.
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Willow, reaching to get a book off the floor
without having to get up off her chair. Suddenly, we hear
glass break.
WILLOW
Did you guys hear"”?
Before she can finish her sentence, she is hit over the head
with a chain. The camera ZOOMS OUT and we see Masiya's
grinning face, each sharp tooth shining.
FADE TO BLACK.
ACT IV
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Willow, slumping down, unconscious.
BUFFY
Will!
She picks up another book and uses it to hit Masiya across
the face.
BUFFY (CONT'D)
Xander, weapons!
XANDER
I'm on it!
He rushes out of the room to collect weapons. Dawn picks up a
glass of water that has been sitting on the coffee table and
hurls it at Masiya. The glass breaks when it hits him and it
distracts him for a moment. Buffy seizes the opportunity to
hit him again with the book. This time, however, he's ready
for her and he ducks out of the way while grabbing the book
and throwing it across the room. Buffy is left weaponless.
She prepares to punch him, but he grabs her fist and tosses
her against the wall. She recovers quickly and yells to Dawn
and Amy:
BUFFY
You guys, get out of here!
Amy grabs a couple spellbooks and retreats to the kitchen,
where she begins flipping frantically through the pages,
looking for a way to defeat or at least slow down Masiya.
Dawn prepares to head after her, but hesitates.
BUFFY (CONT'D)
Go!
Dawn looks from the kitchen to Buffy once more, then charges
back into the living room to grab Willow. She pulls her into
the kitchen and lays her gently on the floor. Then she runs
back into the living room.
DAWN
I'm not leaving!
She picks up a book and throws it at Masiya. Buffy looks at
Dawn for a second, then quickly turns her attention back to
fighting.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara, Lux, and Kennedy's backs as they look at
Rose Manor.
KARA
Do we really have to go in there?
LUX
Gulp.
KENNEDY
Come on, you wusses.
She wheels toward the stairs that lead to the front porch.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Lift me up the stairs, would ya?
Lux and Kara each grab a side of the wheelchair and, with
some difficulty, manage to maneuver it up the stairs and onto
the porch.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Okay, now we just have to"”
She is cut off by an arrow whizzing by her head. It barely
misses her and lodges itself into the back of her wheelchair,
just above her shoulder.
She looks up.
CAMERA: KENNEDY'S POV.
Dhidi, a short, scary-looking demon with sharp teeth and an
outfit similar to Masiya's, stands in the doorway with six or
so demons behind him.
LUX
Like I said, gulp.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Buffy, punching Masiya every chance she gets.
BUFFY
Where are those weapons, Xander?!
Xander rushes in with a sword and a battle axe, which he
tosses to Buffy. She catches it and swings it at Masiya's
head. He's too quick for her, and she lodges the axe into the
wall. As she attempts to pull it out, Masiya comes out of
nowhere with a punch to Buffy's jaw. She staggers backwards
into Xander, who drops the sword as he and Buffy tumble to
the ground.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROSE MANOR "“EARLY EVENING
WIDE SHOT: Kennedy, talking to the demons.
KENNEDY
Well, it's nice to see you too.
The demons snarl at her.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Things aren't looking good for me
right now, are they? I mean, here I
am, no weapons in sight.
Defenseless.
Suddenly, she whips out a small crossbow she has been hiding
in her jacket.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Of course, appearances can be
deceiving.
She fires the crossbow, taking out one of the demons.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Lucky for me you're such a sucky
shot.
The demons charge. Lux and Kara pull stakes from their coats
and double team a demon that's headed for Kennedy. They stab
it repeatedly and after only a little while it collapses
(hey, they're getting better at this slaying stuff!).
Meanwhile, Kennedy pulls the arrow from her wheelchair and
uses it as a makeshift stake, killing another demon with it.
Another demon reaches forward and pushes her chair backwards
toward the stairs. Kennedy grabs the wheels and tries to stop
herself, but she's not going to be able to stop in time.
Suddenly, Kara appears behind her and stops the wheelchair
from tumbling down the stairs.
KARA
I've got your back.
Kennedy smiles dryly.
KENNEDY
Someday, I've gotta get myself a
real wheelchair. With buttons and
levers and brakes and stuff.
Kara smiles.
KARA
Mind if I use you as a battering
ram?
KENNEDY
Batter away.
Kara grabs the handles of Kennedy's wheelchair and runs as
fast as she can through the fight, knocking over a few demons
in the the process. By this time, Dhidi has disappeared from
the fight. Lux notices this and calls to Kara and Kennedy:
LUX
Hey, where did scary demon midget
go?
Kara shrugs and Kennedy shakes her head to say "I don't know"
before the two of them are forced to defend themselves
against another demon coming their way. Kennedy bends down
and pulls a knife from her boot. She stabs the incoming demon
and pushes the body to the ground.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Buffy, getting up off the floor. She grabs the
sword Xander dropped and squares off against Masiya, who
barely escapes her every attempt at slicing him. Finally, he
kicks her in the stomach, sending her flying across the room
and the sword clattering once again to the ground. Masiya
turns to the wall and yanks out the battle axe before setting
his sights back on Buffy.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kennedy, slicing the throat of a final demon. It
sprays her with bright green blood as it collapses to the
ground.
LUX
Gross.
KENNEDY
We have to find whatever's
generating the spell.
Lux references the parchment again.
KARA
We're definitely in the right
place.
KENNEDY
Yeah, as if the welcoming committee
wasn't a big enough clue.
LUX
Let's go inside.
KENNEDY
Keep your weapons ready. There
could be more hiding in there.
INT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
The three of them go inside. The place seems to be really and
truly deserted.
KENNEDY
Are we close, Lux?
LUX
I'd say so.
The parchment is glowing brilliantly, lighting up the dark
front hallway of the old mansion. The girls move toward the
back of the house. They reach a door and Lux shrieks.
KARA
What?
Lux shows her the parchment, which is now smoldering. In a
second, it bursts into flames. Lux throws it on the ground
and stamps it out.
LUX
I'd say we've found our spell
casting location, ladies.
She opens the door to reveal the darkened room from the
teaser. The first thing she sees is the vase with Dawn's
picture on it, and it's no wonder"”the vase is still glowing.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Masiya, advancing on Buffy with the axe. He
reaches her and she attempts to get up, but he puts his foot
on her chest to hold her down. He raises the axe high above
his head to deliver the final blow.
Suddenly, he screams in pain, and while he is distracted, the
sword is grabbed from his hands. As he doubles over in pain,
we see that Dawn is standing behind him, with a bloody sword
by her feet and the battle axe in her hands. She prepares to
swing the axe to decapitate Masiya, but he bolts just in
time. He jumps out the window and runs the minute he hits the
ground, leaving a faint trail of blood behind him. Dawn
reaches a hand down to help Buffy up.
CUT TO:
INT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Lux, looking at the vase. After a second, she
strides over and knocks the vase off the tables it's on,
shattering it on the floor. The light from the vase glows
brighter and then seems to explode, filling the room with
brightness. Then the light disperses, and Lux is left
standing alone in the dark room, with Kara and Kennedy
looking in after her.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn pulling Buffy to her feet. Suddenly, a light
flashes around them. Both blink repeatedly and shake their
heads before saying at the same time:
DAWN
Buffy?
BUFFY
Dawn?
Both nod, and then sigh with relief.
BOTH
Thank God.
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ LATER
CAMERA ON: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Lux, Dawn, Kara, Amy, and
Kennedy sitting around the living room.
KENNEDY
Okay, since nobody else has asked,
I will: What the hell was all that?
WILLOW
As far as I can tell, it's exactly
what we thought it was: a memory
blocking spell. The vase with
Dawn's picture was the beacon.
LUX
Which blocked your memories of her
and hers of you. I get that. But
why didn't it block our memories of
Dawn?
DAWN
The monks.
LUX
Huh?
DAWN
When the monks"¦ made"¦ me, they gave
me false memories. You guys weren't
false, you were genuine.
BUFFY
So anyone who was implanted in
Dawn's memory by the monks was
affected?
WILLOW
That would explain why we couldn't
remember Dawn. She was implanted in
our memories. She wasn't implanted
in Lux, Kara, or Ken's memories, so
they could remember her.
XANDER
Why not just take everyone's
memories? We know it can be done.
So how come this demon or whatever
didn't just block everyone's
memories?
BUFFY
I don't know. But I bet whoever it
is isn't done yet. I'd say buckle
down, because from now on we're at
war.
FADE TO:
INT. ROSE MANOR "“ NIGHT
CAMERA ON: The shattered pieces of the vase.

CAMERA ON: Dawn, Kara, and Lux walking down the sunlit hall,
each carrying her own books for her next class. Lux takes a
deep breath and smiles.
LUX
It's just beautiful today, isn't
it?
DAWN
I guess.
KARA
I didn't really notice.
LUX
You didn't notice? Look outside for
a second, you guys. The sun is
shining, it's warm out, the air
smells nice and clean"¦
She takes another deep breath.
LUX (CONT'D)
When I woke up this morning I just
got the best feeling that, for
once, nothing bad is gonna happen
today.
CUT TO:
EXT. ABANDONED HOUSE "“ DAY
As the camera ZOOMS IN toward the front door of the abandoned
house, we recognize that this is Rose Manor, the same house
that Buffy went to in B9.02 to save a phony damsel in
distress.
The camera reaches the door, and we
FADE TO:
INT. ABANDONED HOUSE "“ DAY
We travel down a dark hallway and the camera TURNS into one
of the rooms, where we see a figure (Masiya) sitting on the
floor, surrounded be a circle of candles, chanting.
MASIYA
"¦Permissum preteritus effluo!
Suddenly, the candles flare up, lighting the room with a
bright light. The flames subside after a minute, but a ball
of light remains pulsing in the middle of the room. Masiya
gestures with his hand and the light moves toward a small
vase. When the light touches the vase, the vase absorbs the
light. Masiya smiles.
CAMERA ON: The vase, on which we can clearly see Dawn's
picture painted.

CAMERA ON: Xander, walking around the construction site with
a man (MR. FISHER).
XANDER
So, my guess is it shouldn't be
much longer before we can begin
putting the finishing touches on,
barring any bad weather or mishaps
with the crew or equipment.
MR. FISHER
That's excellent.
Xander climbs a ladder that brings him up onto some
scaffolding. He gestures for Mr. Fisher to follow him up.
XANDER
If you'll follow me, sir.
MR. FISHER looks warily at the scaffolding.
MR. FISHER
Is that safe?
XANDER
Sure is. I had one of my guys
double check it just yesterday.
MR. FISHER shrugs and follows Xander up the ladder. They walk
a ways along the scaffolding and stop at a hole cut in the
wall, where a window is obviously going to be.
XANDER (CONT'D)
I can show you the second story, if
you'll just follow me in through
here.
MR. FISHER
What about over here?
MR. FISHER walks past Xander onto another section of
scaffolding. Suddenly, the scaffolding collapses, taking MR.
FISHER with it. Xander rushes over to the edge of the
scaffolding and looks down.
XANDER
Mr. Fisher! Are you all right?
MR. FISHER
My leg! Ah, my leg! I think it's
broken! What's the matter with you
people? Safe construction site, my
ass!
XANDER
I'm coming, Mr. Fisher!
He gets up and heads for the ladder, pulling his cell phone
out of his pocket as he does so.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Dammit.
CUT TO:
INT. DORM ROOM "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Willow, poring over a pile of books in front of
her. Or trying. She seems a little distracted.
KENNEDY (V.O)
You okay, sweetie?
CAMERA ON: Kennedy, looking concerned.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
You seem a little distracted.
WIDE SHOT of the room. Willow's still reading, Kennedy's
still watching her.
WILLOW
It's nothing. I've just got this
sense of déja-vu, you know? Does
anything about this demon seem
familiar to you?
KENNEDY
Nothing at all.
WILLOW
See, nothing springs to mind for
me, either, but I just can't shake
this feeling.
KENNEDY
Well, that's the weird thing about
déja-vu. It's just"¦ there. You
can't do anything about it.
WILLOW
I guess.
She puts down the book she was looking at and picks up
another.
KENNEDY
Need help?
WILLOW
Yeah, some help would be great.
She holds out a book to Kennedy, who takes it.
KENNEDY
So what am I looking for?
WILLOW
Anything about the Seraph or Loki's
Box. Actually, at this point, I'm
willing to get any information at
all about Loki himself or Norse
mythology.
KENNEDY
Okay, Seraph, box, myths. Check.
She opens the box and begins to read.
WILLOW
You know who else could help with
this? Amy.
KENNEDY
(Cranky tone of voice)
Oh, Amy.
Willow doesn't seem to pick up on Kennedy's tone. If she
does, she ignores it.
WILLOW
Yeah, Amy. I mean, she's got
nothing else to do. It's not like
has a job to be at or anything. I'm
gonna call her.
She reaches across the pile of books to grab the cordless
phone.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Hey, speaking of jobs and things to
do, don't you have a class soon?
KENNEDY
Yeah, but I can skip it. This is
more important.
WILLOW
No, sweetie, I don't want you to
miss out. Besides, we'll just be
doing boring research. If I were
you, I'd go to class.
KENNEDY
Well, you're not me. I'm staying.
Willow seems a little taken aback at the tone of Kennedy's
voice.
WILLOW
Okay, suit yourself. I just thought
you might be bored, that's all.
KENNEDY
I'm fine, okay?
WILLOW
Okay.
She sets the phone down, apparently deciding not to call Amy
just yet. There's a strained silence as she and Kennedy both
resume their research.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
You know what? Maybe we should just
go over to Buffy's. She's got ore
books there, and, you know, four
heads are better than two.
KENNEDY
Four?
WILLOW
Yeah. (she counts off on her
fingers) Me, you, Amy, and Buffy.
And maybe Xander, if he's off work.
KENNEDY
Maybe.
WILLOW
Let's go.
Without waiting for an answer, she gets up and begins putting
the books in a backpack.
KENNEDY
You know what? You go ahead. I'll
just stay here.
FADE TO:
INT. EDMONSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL HALLWAY "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Dawn, Lux, and Kara, walking down the hall.
DAWN
I'm telling you, I've had the
weirdest feeling all day. It's like

I get that feeling all the time.
You're probably just stressed out.
LUX
Yeah. Just go home and get some
rest.
DAWN
You're right. Home. Home is nice.

WIDE SHOT: Dawn, opening the front door, coming face to face
with Buffy, who was about to go out.

CAMERA ON: BUFFY
BUFFY

Willow enters.
WILLOW
Hey, Buffy, Xander thinks he
might've found something useful.
She notices Dawn and smiles.
WILLOW (CONT'D)

WILLOW
(To Buffy)
Who's this?
BUFFY
I don't know.
WILLOW
You don't"”what?
BUFFY
She just walked in here.
DAWN
I live here.
Willow and Buffy exchange looks.
WILLOW
(To Dawn)

DAWN
No, you can get out of my house.
She walks past Willow and goes to the kitchen without
hesitation.
BUFFY
(Looking toward the
kitchen)
Okay, I don't know what's going on
here, but you can't just walk

DAWN (O.S.)

WILLOW
Okay, clearly we're getting
nowhere.
XANDER (O.S.)
Hey, Will, I think I found
something!
WILLOW
Just a minute!
She walks to the kitchen"¦

"¦and addresses Dawn.
WILLOW
So, what's your name?
DAWN
Dawn Summers. Get out of my house!
I'll call the police!
BUFFY
That's weird.
DAWN
(Sarcastic)
Something's weird? How very
strange.
BUFFY
No, my last name is Summers, too.
Offscreen, we hear the front door open and Lux's voice say:
LUX
Hey, Dawn, here's your history
notes back!
We hear her footsteps coming toward the kitchen. When she
enters, there's silence.
LUX (CONT'D)
Okay, what's going on?
BUFFY
(To Lux, gesturing toward
Dawn)
You know her?
LUX
(unsure of where this is
going, jokingly)
Uh, yeah, don't you?
DAWN, BUFFY, AND WILLOW
No.
LUX
Okay, did you all fall and hit your
heads or something? Dawn, Buffy's
you sister.
DAWN
My what?
BUFFY
Her what? I don't have a sister.
DAWN
I don't either.
LUX
Okay, something is very wrong here.
None of you guys know each other?
BUFFY
Willow and I know each other.
LUX
Okay, so none of you guys know
Dawn, and she doesn't know you?
DAWN
Yeah.
(To Lux)
Would you please tell them to get
out of my house?
LUX
Technically it is Xander's house"¦
BUFFY
(To Dawn)
Ha! Not yours!

(Changes subject)
So, how come I know both of you,

Dawn and Buffy answer simultaneously, as Willow looks on and
Lux tries to listen to both at once.
DAWN
Because she's crazy"”
BUFFY
She just walks into my house"”
LUX
Okay, this is getting us nowhere.
(she turns to Buffy) Okay, Buffy,
tell me how you know me.
BUFFY
You're my professor's daughter.
Duh.
LUX
And you, Dawn? How did we meet?
DAWN
At school.
LUX
Okay. So, Dawn, who do you live
with?
DAWN
Uhhhh"¦
BUFFY
See? She doesn't even know her own
family! Something's obviously not
right up here. (she taps her head)
DAWN
I know I live here. I'll prove it.
She puts down her glass of water and, with conviction, walks
off in the direction of her room.
BUFFY
What is she doing?
The camera follows Willow, Buffy, and Lux as they all follow
Dawn to the door of her room"”
INT. DAWN'S BEDROOM "“ DAY
"”which she throws open dramatically, revealing a typical
teenager's room"”clothes lying on the bed, shoes strewn across
the floor, a magazine tossed on a nightstand, next to a
framed picture of"”wait for it"”Dawn, Willow, Buffy, and
Xander. No one has noticed the picture as of yet, though.
DAWN
See? This is my room.
Buffy looks confused.
BUFFY
This can't be your room. You don't
live here.
Lux spies the picture and picks it up, showing it to Dawn,
Buffy, and Willow.
LUX
Look at this picture, okay?
Something weird is going on.
WILLOW
Maybe a memory spell.
LUX
Maybe.
BUFFY
Willow, you haven't done any memory
spells lately, have you?
Willow looks at her for a moment, then gets what she's
implying.
WILLOW
Of course not! This is not a repeat
of the Joan and Randy Incident.
DAWN
The what and whaty?
LUX
Never mind that. I'm gonna call
Kara. We've got to figure out
what's gong on.
As she turns to leave, Xander enters.
XANDER
Will, I told you, I think I found
something on this demon"”
He notices Dawn, and, not knowing who she is, hurries to
cover his mistake.
XANDER
"”pie recipe.
Dawn looks skeptical.
DAWN
A demon pie recipe?
XANDER (TRYING TO COVER)
Well, yeah, it's like"¦devil's food
cake, only it's a demon, and, well,
pie. But still a baked good.
DAWN
You suck at lying.
XANDER (SARCASTICALLY, TO DAWN)
Thank you. (to Willow) Who's this?
BUFFY
My long-lost sister, apparently.
XANDER
What? You have a sister?
BUFFY
That was pretty much my reaction.
LUX
We think there's a memory-blocking
spell at work here. I'm gonna call
Kara and have her come over. Maybe
we can figure something out.
XANDER
Memory blocking"”what?
LUX
Yeah, think about it for a second.
You don't remember Dawn. (Off
Xander's confused look) Er, Buffy's
long-lost sister. But she has a
room here in this house. It makes
sense that there's a memory thing
going on here. Plus the fact that I
remember that you guys know each
other.
XANDER
We do?
LUX
Okay, I'm tired of explaining it,
so give it a rest with the
questions, okay?
You guys, as a rule, generally
accept freaky things as a part of
everyday life. Accept this, too,
would you?
DAWN
Are you implying that I'm freaky?
LUX (EXASPERATED)
Maybe.
DAWN
Well, being freaky's cooler than
being a freak. My friend Lisa told
me that the day I found out about
Mom"”
She stops, not wanting to dredge up memories of her mother.
Buffy's intuition picks up on what Dawn was about to say
(that her mom died, duh, haven't you been paying attention?)
and says comfortingly:
BUFFY
My mother died, too.
LUX (EVER MORE EXASPERATED)
That's because you guys are
sisters! You have the same freaking
mother!
Buffy and Dawn look at Lux.
DAWN
Jeez, what's your deal?
Lux sighs.
LUX
I'm calling Kara.
WILLOW
Maybe we should get Amy.
BUFFY
Want us to call Kennedy, too?
Willow is already off to find Amy, wherever she may be in the
house. She distractedly replies:
WILLOW
Sure, sure. Whatever.
Buffy looks at Xander and shrugs.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE LIVING ROOM "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Willow, Amy, Buffy, Xander, Dawn, Lux, and Kara
sitting in the living room, surrounded by books. There is a
knock at the door.
DAWN
I'll get it.
Before anyone can protest, she's headed for the door.
BUFFY
Okay, I generally answer my own
door, but whatever.
CUT TO:
INT. HALLWAY - DAY
Dawn opens the front door to reveal Kennedy.
DAWN
Hey, Kennedy.
KENNEDY
Hi.
Buffy enters.
BUFFY
Wait a minute, how come you guys
know each other?
DAWN
Duh, because Kennedy is"¦
She struggles to remember exactly how she knows Kennedy,
before finishing lamely:
DAWN (CONT'D)
My friend.
BUFFY
Something has kept this spell from
affecting Kennedy, too.
KENNEDY
Spell?
BUFFY
There's some kind of spell going on
here, we think, because nobody here
knows who this...
(nods her head at Dawn)
is.
KENNEDY
It's Dawn.
BUFFY
So I'm told.
WILLOW (O.S)
I found something!
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ DAY
CAMERA ON: Willow, reading from a book in her hands.
WILLOW
Okay, so a spell like this must
take some major mojo, right? I can
use this spell to trace its
remnants.
KENNEDY
Kind of like a magical bloodhound?
WILLOW
Yeah. And hi.
KENNEDY
Hi.
WILLOW
I think I have all the ingredients
I need. Oh, except for"”
Amy has been reading over Willow's shoulder.
AMY
Oh, sage? I have some of that. I
always make sure I have some with
me.
WILLOW
I know! I usually have some on me
all the time, but last week I
needed it for"”
BUFFY
Uh, guys, the spell?
WILLOW
Right. Okay. So once the spell is
performed, it might leave everyone
affected by it a little out-of
sorts, y'know? So I think we should
send Ken, Lux, and Kara off to find
the source of the magic once I'm
done with the spell.
LUX
Okay, not that I don't adore being
sent into imminent danger"”'cause I
do"”but why us? Why aren't we
affected by the spell?
WILLOW
We might be able to determine that
once we get our memories back.
Until then, we're working blind.
She looks down at the spell book and then nods to Amy, who
EXITS, apparently going off to get the sage.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Let's get cracking.

ACT III
FADE TO:
EXT. EDMONSVILLE STREET "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara pushing Kennedy's wheelchair down the
sidewalk. Lux walks behind, holding a piece of parchment that
appears to be glowing.
LUX
Okay, from what I can tell from
Willow's magic map doohickey, we're
headed in the right direction.
She looks up at the sky. The horizon is streaked with pink
and gold, suggesting that the sun has just recently set.
LUX (CONT'D)
I guess this puts us somewhere on
the west side of town.
KARA
Whoa, déjà vu!
LUX
Huh?
KARA
I just got the weirdest feeling of
déjà vu, you know? Like someone
said"”
LUX
Buffy said!
KENNEDY
Huh?
LUX
A couple weeks ago, when Buffy got
sent to that abandoned house that
turned out to be a trap. That was
on the west side of town.
KARA
Rose Manor. I'll bet you anything
that's where this spell was
performed.
LUX
So someone's using Rose Manor as
their Command Central.
KENNEDY
Seems kinda stupid, doesn't it?
Either they've got a brilliant plan
or they don't have a clue as to
what they're doing. Moving around
would make it much harder for them
to be tracked down and caught.
KARA
It's almost like they wanted us to
figure it out.
There's silence for a minute as everyone ponders this. Then:
LUX
Did anyone else just get a really
bad feeling about leaving the
others alone?
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Amy, sitting around

XANDER
So, do you have any special powers?
"¦which they are.
DAWN
Huh?
XANDER
I mean, someone's put a memory
spell on all of us. Buffy's the
original Slayer. Willow and Amy are
witches. I'm"¦doughnut guy. Someone
must think you're pretty important,
to put a memory spell on you.
DAWN (SARCASTICALLY)
Well, I sure feel special.
Buffy points to a scar on Dawn's hand.
BUFFY
What's that from?
DAWN
Well, I"¦I don't know.
AMY
Is that your natural hair-color?
Everyone turns to look at Amy. She shrugs.
AMY (CONT'D)
Just curious. I'm thinking of
dyeing mine again.
Buffy, Xander, and Willow nod and say thinks like, "Oh,
okay," and "Hmm".
CAMERA ON: Dawn, looking from one to the other, not quite
sure what to make of this.
CUT TO:
EXT. EDMONSVILLE STREET "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara, still pushing Kennedy's wheelchair, and Lux
still walking along with them.
LUX
So ultimately, we just left a house
full of strangers to fight off
anything that might come for them?
KENNEDY
And to protect that box-amajigger,
don't forget.
KARA
Sure does look that way. I mean,
they're all strangers. If they get
attacked, each of them might think
that the other set them up.
LUX
Maybe we should go back.
KENNEDY
No!
Kara stops pushing the chair, and both she and Lux turn to
look at Kennedy.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
The best thing to do right now is
to try and break the memory spell.
I mean, they all know us, and they
know we'd never set them up.
LUX
That's true.
KARA
I just hope they think of that.
Kennedy begins to wheel herself forward.
KENNEDY
Let's go.
The three of them start off for their destination, traveling
at a faster pace than before.
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn, still sitting in the chair, watching
disinterestedly as the rest of the group talks.
WILLOW
See, I liked my hair short.
BUFFY
That was really cute. And wasn't it
so easy to take care of? I'm
thinking of cutting my hair again.
WILLOW
Really? I like it how it is now.
AMY
Oh yeah, it's definitely cute. See,
I like my hair how it is now.
She rubs the ends of her hair between her fingers.
AMY (CONT'D)
I couldn't pull off the short
hairdo that well. I mean, it works
on some people, but not on me.
There's a lull in the conversation for a minute.
BUFFY
Hey, how'd we start talking about
this in the first place?
DAWN
(Obviously bored)
You asked if this was my natural
hair color.
BUFFY
Oh, yeah. It is kind of weird,
though. If we're sisters, shouldn't
we look more alike?
Xander squints and tilts his head to the side a little.
XANDER
I can see a resemblance.
BUFFY
I don't see it. For one, our noses
are totally different.
DAWN
So?
BUFFY
So, it's weird. How'd we get
different noses?
DAWN
Maybe I got Mom's nose and you got
Dad's nose.
BUFFY
No, Mom's nose doesn't look like
yours or mine. Maybe the nose
skipped a generation or something.
There is a small rustling sound, but no one seems to notice
it. The camera angle CHANGES to a SHAKY, HAND-HELD type
filming method filming from outside, looking in"”to indicate
that someone is watching the Scoobies. The Scoobs themselves
remain oblivious, however.
EXT. JUST OUTSIDE SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ANGLE: through the window.
DAWN
(Muffled)
I think my nose looks like
grandma's.
BUFFY
(Muffled)
Okay, now I know we can't be
related. No way does your nose look
like grandma's.
DAWN (MUFFLED)
(Muffled)
It does so!
The camera angle changes back to normal.
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
We are back in the living room, with a steady, non-shaky
camera angle.
CAMERA ON: Dawn, continuing what she was saying.
DAWN
Have you ever looked at old
pictures of her? I totally have her
nose.
BUFFY
Okay, if her nose looks like
anyone's, it's mine.
The angle changes again to the shaky, hand-held, filming-from
the-outside-in camera.
EXT. JUST OUTSIDE SUMMERS RESIDENCE "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ANGLE: through the window.
DAWN
(Muffled)
Okay, maybe you look like great
Aunt June, but no way do you look
like grandma.
BUFFY
(Muffled)
Oh, lovely, just who I want to look
like. A woman who knits caps for
her cats so they can ride with her
in the carpool lane on the highway.
XANDER
(Muffled)
Not that this conversation isn't
fascinating, but don't you think we
should use this time to do research
on that box thing?
BUFFY
(Muffled)
You're right. Sorry.
The shaky, hand-held camera moves away from the window before
the angle changes back to its normal, steady self.
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Willow, reaching to get a book off the floor
without having to get up off her chair. Suddenly, we hear
glass break.
WILLOW
Did you guys hear"”?
Before she can finish her sentence, she is hit over the head
with a chain. The camera ZOOMS OUT and we see Masiya's
grinning face, each sharp tooth shining.
FADE TO BLACK.
ACT IV
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Willow, slumping down, unconscious.
BUFFY
Will!
She picks up another book and uses it to hit Masiya across
the face.
BUFFY (CONT'D)
Xander, weapons!
XANDER
I'm on it!
He rushes out of the room to collect weapons. Dawn picks up a
glass of water that has been sitting on the coffee table and
hurls it at Masiya. The glass breaks when it hits him and it
distracts him for a moment. Buffy seizes the opportunity to
hit him again with the book. This time, however, he's ready
for her and he ducks out of the way while grabbing the book
and throwing it across the room. Buffy is left weaponless.
She prepares to punch him, but he grabs her fist and tosses
her against the wall. She recovers quickly and yells to Dawn
and Amy:
BUFFY
You guys, get out of here!
Amy grabs a couple spellbooks and retreats to the kitchen,
where she begins flipping frantically through the pages,
looking for a way to defeat or at least slow down Masiya.
Dawn prepares to head after her, but hesitates.
BUFFY (CONT'D)
Go!
Dawn looks from the kitchen to Buffy once more, then charges
back into the living room to grab Willow. She pulls her into
the kitchen and lays her gently on the floor. Then she runs
back into the living room.
DAWN
I'm not leaving!
She picks up a book and throws it at Masiya. Buffy looks at
Dawn for a second, then quickly turns her attention back to
fighting.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kara, Lux, and Kennedy's backs as they look at
Rose Manor.
KARA
Do we really have to go in there?
LUX
Gulp.
KENNEDY
Come on, you wusses.
She wheels toward the stairs that lead to the front porch.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Lift me up the stairs, would ya?
Lux and Kara each grab a side of the wheelchair and, with
some difficulty, manage to maneuver it up the stairs and onto
the porch.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Okay, now we just have to"”
She is cut off by an arrow whizzing by her head. It barely
misses her and lodges itself into the back of her wheelchair,
just above her shoulder.
She looks up.
CAMERA: KENNEDY'S POV.
Dhidi, a short, scary-looking demon with sharp teeth and an
outfit similar to Masiya's, stands in the doorway with six or
so demons behind him.
LUX
Like I said, gulp.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Buffy, punching Masiya every chance she gets.
BUFFY
Where are those weapons, Xander?!
Xander rushes in with a sword and a battle axe, which he
tosses to Buffy. She catches it and swings it at Masiya's
head. He's too quick for her, and she lodges the axe into the
wall. As she attempts to pull it out, Masiya comes out of
nowhere with a punch to Buffy's jaw. She staggers backwards
into Xander, who drops the sword as he and Buffy tumble to
the ground.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROSE MANOR "“EARLY EVENING
WIDE SHOT: Kennedy, talking to the demons.
KENNEDY
Well, it's nice to see you too.
The demons snarl at her.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Things aren't looking good for me
right now, are they? I mean, here I
am, no weapons in sight.
Defenseless.
Suddenly, she whips out a small crossbow she has been hiding
in her jacket.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Of course, appearances can be
deceiving.
She fires the crossbow, taking out one of the demons.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Lucky for me you're such a sucky
shot.
The demons charge. Lux and Kara pull stakes from their coats
and double team a demon that's headed for Kennedy. They stab
it repeatedly and after only a little while it collapses
(hey, they're getting better at this slaying stuff!).
Meanwhile, Kennedy pulls the arrow from her wheelchair and
uses it as a makeshift stake, killing another demon with it.
Another demon reaches forward and pushes her chair backwards
toward the stairs. Kennedy grabs the wheels and tries to stop
herself, but she's not going to be able to stop in time.
Suddenly, Kara appears behind her and stops the wheelchair
from tumbling down the stairs.
KARA
I've got your back.
Kennedy smiles dryly.
KENNEDY
Someday, I've gotta get myself a
real wheelchair. With buttons and
levers and brakes and stuff.
Kara smiles.
KARA
Mind if I use you as a battering
ram?
KENNEDY
Batter away.
Kara grabs the handles of Kennedy's wheelchair and runs as
fast as she can through the fight, knocking over a few demons
in the the process. By this time, Dhidi has disappeared from
the fight. Lux notices this and calls to Kara and Kennedy:
LUX
Hey, where did scary demon midget
go?
Kara shrugs and Kennedy shakes her head to say "I don't know"
before the two of them are forced to defend themselves
against another demon coming their way. Kennedy bends down
and pulls a knife from her boot. She stabs the incoming demon
and pushes the body to the ground.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Buffy, getting up off the floor. She grabs the
sword Xander dropped and squares off against Masiya, who
barely escapes her every attempt at slicing him. Finally, he
kicks her in the stomach, sending her flying across the room
and the sword clattering once again to the ground. Masiya
turns to the wall and yanks out the battle axe before setting
his sights back on Buffy.
CUT TO:
EXT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Kennedy, slicing the throat of a final demon. It
sprays her with bright green blood as it collapses to the
ground.
LUX
Gross.
KENNEDY
We have to find whatever's
generating the spell.
Lux references the parchment again.
KARA
We're definitely in the right
place.
KENNEDY
Yeah, as if the welcoming committee
wasn't a big enough clue.
LUX
Let's go inside.
KENNEDY
Keep your weapons ready. There
could be more hiding in there.
INT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
The three of them go inside. The place seems to be really and
truly deserted.
KENNEDY
Are we close, Lux?
LUX
I'd say so.
The parchment is glowing brilliantly, lighting up the dark
front hallway of the old mansion. The girls move toward the
back of the house. They reach a door and Lux shrieks.
KARA
What?
Lux shows her the parchment, which is now smoldering. In a
second, it bursts into flames. Lux throws it on the ground
and stamps it out.
LUX
I'd say we've found our spell
casting location, ladies.
She opens the door to reveal the darkened room from the
teaser. The first thing she sees is the vase with Dawn's
picture on it, and it's no wonder"”the vase is still glowing.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Masiya, advancing on Buffy with the axe. He
reaches her and she attempts to get up, but he puts his foot
on her chest to hold her down. He raises the axe high above
his head to deliver the final blow.
Suddenly, he screams in pain, and while he is distracted, the
sword is grabbed from his hands. As he doubles over in pain,
we see that Dawn is standing behind him, with a bloody sword
by her feet and the battle axe in her hands. She prepares to
swing the axe to decapitate Masiya, but he bolts just in
time. He jumps out the window and runs the minute he hits the
ground, leaving a faint trail of blood behind him. Dawn
reaches a hand down to help Buffy up.
CUT TO:
INT. ROSE MANOR "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Lux, looking at the vase. After a second, she
strides over and knocks the vase off the tables it's on,
shattering it on the floor. The light from the vase glows
brighter and then seems to explode, filling the room with
brightness. Then the light disperses, and Lux is left
standing alone in the dark room, with Kara and Kennedy
looking in after her.
CUT TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ EARLY EVENING
CAMERA ON: Dawn pulling Buffy to her feet. Suddenly, a light
flashes around them. Both blink repeatedly and shake their
heads before saying at the same time:
DAWN
Buffy?
BUFFY
Dawn?
Both nod, and then sigh with relief.
BOTH
Thank God.
FADE TO:
INT. SUMMERS LIVING ROOM "“ LATER
CAMERA ON: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Lux, Dawn, Kara, Amy, and
Kennedy sitting around the living room.
KENNEDY
Okay, since nobody else has asked,
I will: What the hell was all that?
WILLOW
As far as I can tell, it's exactly
what we thought it was: a memory
blocking spell. The vase with
Dawn's picture was the beacon.
LUX
Which blocked your memories of her
and hers of you. I get that. But
why didn't it block our memories of
Dawn?
DAWN
The monks.
LUX
Huh?
DAWN
When the monks"¦ made"¦ me, they gave
me false memories. You guys weren't
false, you were genuine.
BUFFY
So anyone who was implanted in
Dawn's memory by the monks was
affected?
WILLOW
That would explain why we couldn't
remember Dawn. She was implanted in
our memories. She wasn't implanted
in Lux, Kara, or Ken's memories, so
they could remember her.
XANDER
Why not just take everyone's
memories? We know it can be done.
So how come this demon or whatever
didn't just block everyone's
memories?
BUFFY
I don't know. But I bet whoever it
is isn't done yet. I'd say buckle
down, because from now on we're at
war.
FADE TO:
INT. ROSE MANOR "“ NIGHT
CAMERA ON: The shattered pieces of the vase.
FADE TO BLACK.
