I am thinking of volunteering abroad next year, and was wondering if anyone has done this. If so did you go with a company or organise it yourself?

www.i-to-i.com is a really great company to use.

I have friends who volunteered in Ghana for 6 months but they did that through our university. I've checked this topic out alot and i-to-i is by far the best company I have found.

Ohhh, interesting. I'm going travelling next year, maybe I could look into volunteering work? Awesome.

But its also one of the most expensive 😡

Sometimes you have to pay a bit more to ensure you get a reputable company. I've heard horror stories from quite a few friends who went down the cheaper option and in the end it is not worth it.

If you want to go down the teaching route try http://www.tefl.com/ however you may have to pay to gain the TEFL qualification if you are not already qualified. Even then you have to ensure that you go to a good school and via agencies that are not a rip off. Again so many horror stories about people being stuck in a school abroad and being given the run around.
