File this as another thing I dont get...

Variety is reporting that Marriott has launched a limited test of “VRoom Service” in partnership with Samsung Electronics. It’s currently testing the VR service, for which guests can have a Samsung Gear VRheadset delivered to their room and borrow it for 24 hours, over the next two weeks at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square and the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane.

However, the virtual-reality content Marriott’s guests will be able to roam through will be limited to only three “VR Postcards” commissioned by the chain. Those videos, shot in 360-degree 3D, each follow real travelers on a different journeys, taking viewers to Chile’s Andes mountains, an ice-cream shop in Rwanda and Beijing’s bustling streets.

Marriott styles itself as leading the hospitality industry in adopting media and entertainment technologies, and its VR experiment is more about positioning the brand as a preferred destination for digital natives than anything else.
A preferred destination for digital natives? Really? Maybe I am just too damn old but I can't imagine people would travel to a hotel because it has Vroom Service.

Yeah, that is strange. "Digital natives" sounds like a really small target audience to me. Or maybe it's just because I don't really understand what they mean by the term. I certainly wouldn't opt for a hotel because it exclusively offers Vroom service. I just want a comfy bed and a decent internet connection.

Digital natives are generally considered anyone born after 1980 and the advent of the digital age. Native because they grew up with and exposed to the digital world.

Maybe I worded it wrong. Maybe what I should have said was I think it sounds pretentious. I'd be considered a "digital native", then. I would never use that term though, cos, lawl.

Of course you would be a digital native.. especially when you say "I just want a ... decent internet connection." if that doesnt scream digital native then I dont know what does.

OK, you got me there. But comfy bed did come first. I'd consider myself a king size double native.

I never really got into the internet world until I was in my late teens, like 18/19 (2005/06). It did nothing for me prior to that age. It's weird, because even my own one year old unknowingly uses the internet when I search her favourite tv programmes to watch on the samsung tablet, she plays and looks at kids' apps on the android store etc.
