if that was to me, I'm in Chapter 10, don't remember anything about a Ralph Waldo Emmerson. I get what the guy's saying in the book, I just don't get the point. It's just a bunch of ramblings about, in my opinion, nothingness.

long story short Emerson is Thoreau's hero and mentor, the reason I ask is cause when teacher talk about one of them they usually mention the other.
Hey to each his own, I remember back in school and still to this day I hate catcher in the rye most people I have ever asked have loved it. I would reccommend reading Civil Disobedience, it was written while he was imprisioned because he refused to pay taxes because he was against the war with spain and it was also what Martin Luther King Jr. was reading while he was imprisioned, where he would write the famous "I have a dream" speech.

Terry: It's a book, a very dumb book in my opinion, by Henry David Thoreau.
I don't find Walden all that interesting. Maybe because it has no plot or anything, it seems like just a bunch of essay's thrown together.
Thoreau may have mentioned Emmerson, but I just don't remember him saying anything about Emerson.

haha, it is. It's about this guy who goes and builds himself a shack in the middle of the woods, by Walden Pond. And he just talks about how people shouldn't live by society's "rules" and be an individual..ect, ect, ect.

I just finished it! (still hafta read Civil Disobedience for the class, but the worst is over!) I don't get how people can actually like this book (apologies for the one's who do)
