Walter Koenig, AKA Chekov (Star Trek) is gone... he was 90

Wow, I was just wondering about him the other day, having seen William Shatner being interviewed. (The latter is 95 and still out there, making albums.) Chekhov on Star Trek was always the young, hip crewman, so I'm surprised he was only five years younger than WS. RIP.

when you're 20 or 25, 5 years is a lot of your life. when you're 90, 5 years is a small increment of the total... though it's probably harder to get from 90 to 95 than 25 to 30

I am happy that both Walter and William got to have good long lives. Walter lost his wife of 57 just a couple years ago. That is always hard.

I admit I thought he was younger than that, but yes, this.

Another TOS actor gone. Though they have done a whole lot better than the main B5 cast; somewhat Ironic, given that he was a recurring actor on the series.

AHHHHH 🙁 I loved him. Brave man too. I grew up watching the original Trek. Us 70s kids loved to plop down in front of the TV - it raised us, b.c. our parents sure as hell did not .

I think the B5 cast were snakebit. Sadly the Buffy cast appear to be heading that way though maybe a bit later.

I know I wouldn't want to appear in a B5 revival!
RIP crazy that we only have two orignal series cast members left. He seemed like a fantastic and very humble guy with a great sense of humour. Heard some nice stories about him at fan convantions, and how he was a pen pal to a couple of fans. Will probably rewatch Voyage Home soon. Have a reason to give a proper watch of Babyon 5 now.

Not that crazy. Remember, this is the main cast from a show that ENDED 57 years ago. And a lot of them were established actors already, unlike a lot of modern shows where they seem more likely to cast unknowns.

Leonard Nimoy: Died at 83. Was 35 when the show started. Would be 95 if still alive.

William Shatner: Still alive (95). Also 35 when show started.

DeForest Kelley: Died at 79. Was 46 when show started. Would be 106 if still alive.

Nichelle Nichols: Died at 89. Was 33 when show started. Would be 93 if alive today.

James Doohan: Died at 85. Was 46 when the show started. Would be 106 if alive today.

Eddie Paskey: Wait...Who?!? Eddie Paskey played Lt. Leslie (and a few other small roles). Why am i listing him? Because while not main cast he was actually in more episodes than Walter or George. Died at 81. Was 27 when the show started. Would be 87 if alive today.

George Takai: Still alive (89). Hoping he outlives Shatner. Was 29 when show started.

Walter Koenig: Died at 90. Was 30 when the show started.

So no one really died young enough that it was a shock (unlike B5 where half the cast barely made 60). And the remaining two are old enough that if we heard they passed tomorrow it wouldn't really be shocking (sad, but not a shock). Honestly, the crazy thing is that so many of them lived as long as they did.

Don't forget Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Rand) who died 11 years ago at 85 and Majel Barrett (Nurse/Doctor Chapel, Lwaxana Troi and many computers) died 18 years ago at 76.

Oh, Pavel Chekov was ten years younger than Walter Koenig was. Chekov was intended to be the same age as the oldest boomer. But in truth, W and Takei were the same age, with S being five years older.

Yes, it's weird that Shatner and Takei are the two last men standing. Not as weird as Tina Louise being the last castaway, but still.
