If you want something different for a vampire movie that doesn't show the typical vampire stereotype then this movie is it.
This Tobe Hooper and Dan O'Bannon made Sci-fi horror classic gives us a unique and fascinating new take on vampire and zombie lore. It's about astronauts who find a spaceship while exploring Haley's comet as they find hundreds of dead bat-like critters and three preserved nude humanoids (One female and 2 males) in energy crystals as they take them back to Earth in London for research. The three humanoids wake up as they are space vampires who suck energy out of humans to turn them into vampire-zombie fast moving creatures who do the same to humans to infect London of making them into vampire-zombie creatures as only a US astronaut, a professor and detective must find the space vampires or the world is doomed.
The way this movie works is it's erotic, fascinating and well made. It has a great concept of having the aliens in this movie who are of an ancient race of vampires that came to Earth before eons ago to become the origin and ancestors to our vampire legends. These vampires however don't have fangs or suck blood because they are Psi-vampires a.k.a. Psychic-vampires or energy-vampires that suck out lifeforces/souls/youth/energy out of victims instead until they turn old, shriveled and become the same creature within hours. The alien vampires do become giant bat-like creatures, energy mist, possess people's minds and can be killed like traditional vampires do.
It's kind of like Transformers meets Dracula and Zombieland, if you like Sci-fi, vampires, zombies and horror then this movie is for you. One of my favorites! it also offers a unique twist to vampire lore by saying that vampires did in fact exist through time but not as the undead but as aliens.
