I saw a thread about the war on drugs. So I thought I'd make my own about the war on terror. Since something just happened in Spain.
Care to expand? Is there a question in there?
What should we do about the war on terror? Feel pretty despondent about it, I suppose. The amount of deaths globally since 9/11 is an atrocity. The number of women, children and other innocents bombed in Afghanistan is a smear on humanity. Same goes for all the soldiers who have died in service, and the veterans who return home with PTSD and lifelong injuries, who have no help and even end up homeless due to medical bills. What should we do about it?

What's happening now is symptomatic of what and the US, UK and other European countries have inflicted on middle eastern countries for decades.

Attack them with hummus. Nobody expects hummus.

Do you think for a moment if Iraq's main export was pomegranates that we would be there? What about all the African countries where the same thing is happening and we have no interest?
We can't claim to bring democracy to Iran because the US and Britain took it away from them. Mohammed Mossadegh, the legally elected prime minister of Iran, was deposed by the US and Britain in 1953. His foreign minister was killed and the prime minister was held under house arrest until his death in 1967. The west had parachuted Reza Pahlavi into power as the Shah of Iran, who promptly arrested, tortured and killed thousands of Iranian patriots. The US is right to be afraid the chickens will come home to roost.
This is not about religion or culture. This is about oil and money. As late as 1989, the US granted export licences to American Type Culture Collection for the delivery of botulinus, anthrax and clostridium perfringens plus 1400-litre fermentation tanks, supposedly to help the Iraqi's make vaccines against what were considered the biggest Iranian threats during the Iraq-Iran war. The US took out the facility in one of the first bombing raids on the suburbs outside of Baghdad.
This is an endless war that will bring America down. The fight is against some states but mainly against some dedicated organizations like Al Qaeda, the Taliban and others that do not represent any particular state. There is no one in those organizations who would be available to sign a peace treaty.
