Warehouse 13 (new Espenson series greenlit)

Sci Fi has just greenlit 11 hours of a new show called Warehouse 13.

Here's what it's about (sounds kind of Torchwoody).

After saving the life of the President, two Secret Service agents find themselves abruptly transferred to Warehouse 13 -- a massive, top secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota which houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and supernatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government. The Warehouse's caretaker Artie (Rubinek) charges Pete (McClintock) and Myka (Kelly) with chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to cache at the Warehouse, as well as helping him to control the warehouse itself.

Production is slated to begin this February in Toronto for a July 2009 premiere.

Here's why it's Whedonverse.

Warehouse 13 is produced by Universal Cable Productions and executive produced by David Simkins (Blade: The Series, The Book of Daniel). It is based on a story by Brent Mote and Jane Espenson; the teleplay was written by Brent Mote and Jane Espenson and David Simkins. It is directed by Jace Alexander (Burn Notice, Rescue Me).

Sounds like someone was watching Indiana jones and had a flash of 'artistic genius'
You have to remember this is the Sci Fi Channel we're talking about, so it doesn't have to be general public friendly like Lost or Heroes to be successful. It can be sci fi friendly like Eureka, or Flash Gordon, and it will succeed.

And yeah, Indiana Jones. I forgot about that. Kind of Indiana Jones meets Torchwood. Throw in a little X Files, because everybody does. (Seen Fringe?)

Forgive me if I don't go out and party that a new TV show has been commissioned by them.

It sounds great, I would love to see it as a show, BUT I will 'celebrate' if it gets a full series - ohh and is any good
 
Actually it reminds me alot of the premise of an older tv show: Friday the 13th - The Series.
It was a supernatural anthology program about an antique dealer who cursed the items he sold to customers in a pact with the devil.
His deal with the devil went south; the shop passed to his niece and nephew (with the assistance of an older gentleman) who discovered the truth about the cursed items and worked to retrieve them and to lock away so they would not cause harm.

Still waiting for the official DVD release of this series.
 
I used to love that show. 🙂 But I've been waiting for this one for a while - I think the premise at least has been in development a while.

Stargate: Atlantis is meeting its maker,true. BUT the Stargate franchise is going ahead;plans are afoot to bring a new series into the mix sometime in the next year or two.

And let's not forget it had at least 4 seasons or so under its belt-by no stretch of the imagination is that considered a failure.
 
Meh, doesn't sound like anything new or exciting. But I love Jane Espenson so maybe I'll watch it if it doesn't get cancelled before I get the chance!

Stargate: Universe is still in planning stages. I will believe it when I see it, especially as the premise is so 'Star Trek'.

While I appreciate that 5 seasons of a show don't make it a failure, what I don't think bodes well is that it is still highly rated and yet they cancelled it.

This was a decision Sci-Fi made. Thats not good.

Atlantis, in my opinion, was better than SG-1 and could have continued for ages. It seems to have found its footing now as well with each season, in my opinion, getting better than the previous.

This is the show that Sci-Fi cancelled.

This is why I won't hold my breath for the Espensen show. Sounds worthy of watch, but how many shows have we lost over time tat should/could have carried on?

Actually season one of "Friday the 13th: The Series" is being released on DVD this Tuesday.

Never liked it myself. I watched a couple of episodes and it did nothing for me. Didn't like SG-1 either. The ex loved it though.
I liked the original movie so I guess that's something.

I'm just saying I'd rather they make the show where if I like it I can at least get one season or so's enjoyment out of it, than have either them not be made at all or be so pessimistic about their chances that I don't watch them at all.
