if you're running windows on an intel mac there is nothing to protect that operating system from being affected by a virus, unless you have virus software installed.
There are currently no viruses for the Mac OS although there are a handful of trojans, but it can get into semantics arguing the point, a virus instals itself whereas you have to activate a trojan.

if you know of a virus for the mac OS i'd love to know the name of it.

ApricotAngel disagrees: Your friend must have chosen to install this virus. It's the only way she could have done it, unless someone else had access to her computer. I don't think you know how Macs work!

I'm pretty sure what happened was she clicked on some idiotic thing like "this is a missing plug-in" blah blah blah. So yeah, she chose to install the virus... but macs CAN get viruses. She was under the impression if she clicked and installed something harmful to her computer, it simply wouldn't and couldn't affect it.

ApricotAngel agrees: Plug-ins don't work like that on Mac, they just work. I think you're right though in that she downloaded something and installed it, I'd bet 99% that thing was to do with Piracy too

I don't open emails if I don't know the sender, and no one I personally know sends me emails without telling me cause I never check it and they know that. If someone's gotta email me something, I get a, 'sending you an email,' text from them. The others are like Borders and Netflix. Otherwise, they go straight to spam.
