Warren - better on his own?

The Trio were obviously fairly comedic villains for most of season 6, and to that end I see the purpose of Andrew and Jonathan, but did they essentially hold Warren back? Why was he with them? Why was he even still in Sunnydale? I mean, the guy could build robots who looked so convincingly like a human being that others couldn't tell it wasn't a human being...

Still, even if he didn't want to go off and make money making robots (did he have morals about it after all?), Warren is obviously a very smart person. Socially awkward, yes, but intelligent for sure. Basically, why did he even need the two sillier parts of the Trio?

Was Warren an inconsistent character?

I felt it was natural for a nerd-genius like Warren to like having these little hero-worshipping minions drooling all over him. It fed his power fantasies and also allowed him to fob off the dirty work on someone else when he needed to.

The geek trio was definitely not my favourite part of season 6, and Jonathan especially seemed out of place, especially considering that Buffy was the one who ultimately helped him not off himself way back when. That kind of impression lasts on a person, you know?

I don't know if Warren has a strong enough character to carry the role of Big Bad for a whole season by himself, at least as he was written on the show. I appreciate the weirdly relevant message that a couple scrawny and nerdy dudes who think the world owes them something are the villains of the season (at least until the thing with Tara happens), but still. I like a little more big and bad in my Big Bads.

from another thread got me thinking. And I hate myself for making head canon because, hello... no. But... It would have been kinda cool to find out that Warren's grandfather was the original Ted. And that after he made the robot he knocked up some broad and then later here comes Warren following in his grandfather's footsteps.

That would have been really cool. But alas, it didn't happen. Thus ends the head cannon crap.

I stopped writing mine because (predictably) I was having a lot of inappropriate ideas for it. Funny, yes, but also...super duper ewww.

Beside the fact that any man in his right mind would fall in love with Joyce? Or did she get a personality transplant when brought back from the dead?

So... Warren. Yes. I think he would have been far better on his own. He was a great character that was not utilized properly as just the comic relief like the other two.
