Warren Mears

I'm not sure if Warren is the single most evil Big Bad in the Buffyverse, but he was definitely evil. The thing that scared me the most about Warren was that he had absolutely no real remorse for anything he did. He would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and his methods were twisted and wrong. What he did to Katrina was horrible, and then that crazed look in his eyes when he came to shoot Buffy was proof that he was off his rocker.

I think Adam Busch does a fantastic job portraying Warren's character as a misogynistic, selfish, awful person. I'm inclined to agree with you. He is sexually predatory and abusive. He clearly holds women in very little esteem. And he has no excuse, like you said. He's not a vamp or demon. He's just an $%#$%^. I would love to use profanity to describe him, but I know this is a family board 😉. He's a straight up murderer Andrew and Jonathan are redeemed; I feel like Willow's dispatching of Warren was generously quick and painless. I think he is the most repulsive BTVS character, with the possible exception of Parker.

I think he's much more repulsive than Parker, who was just a college kid wanting to get some. Morally reprehensible, but not hopelessly evil.

you're right. but I just want to punch Parker in the face. is that ok?
I think he got lost in his own fantasy he built for himself. The Trio were the big bad. He was the leader. He could have been good. Warren was stupid. They were just bored kids. Everyone else was growing up except them. Well at least trying to anyway.

best. signature. ever. XD
Well, short answer I dont think warren is the most evil of bads on the show. The long answer is well, gonna jump around a bit so bear with me here. Uh season 6 is kinda to me season 2 years later in alot of ways. Both are kind of about losing innocence, feature villians who are highly personal and take one of the gangs own(angelus and warren),Misdirection into the real big bad,Are about the entire buffy universe being deconstructed,And both end with a sarah machlachlan song. the key difference is season 6 is about the inability to grow up. And what character better represents it then americas favorite misogonistic skinless killer warren. Warrens still stuck in school Where girls rejected him, people tortured him,and he was ignored. I think the expierience of this, like what would happen to a school shooter, drove him off the deep end. Think about another character from the whedonverse,Lindsey,Lindsey for his poor upbringing and all of that got constant chances. Even the ceo of hell incorporated gives lindsey the chance to walk,And despite how evil
holland was,I geuninely believe he saw lindsey like a son and would of let him go. But lindsey doesnt. Because hes simply,Evil. When he goes away in season 2,he comes back because lindsey always goes back to square one. He cant move on from being evil. he just cant. its in his nature. When lorne says he cant be part of the solution, its true. he never could be,he proves that even at the end. but he got constant chances to be. Warren didnt. I wouldnt sum up him as evil simply evil like that. I dont believe thats his nature that hes pure evil,I think society partially drove him that way. And honestly,i think thats what all this is about with him. it isnt about being a super villian. it isnt about the trio. honestly,
i think with andrew and jonathan they think theyre playing the equviliant of a reeeeeeeeallly screwed up dungeons and dragons role playing game with no consequences. they think its just fun. Warren isnt about that. I think warrens about striking back at society. Hes got this anger at
the world thats hard to describe,it seems to be there in everything he says from dead things foward,Its directionless anger...at everyone and everything unlike caleb he isnt defined by his misogony, his hatred is all ecompassing. Its volcanic. the sort of anger a school shooter might have(I keep coming back to that metaphore because for some reason he always seemed to me to be a metaphore for one). I think he also wants to be acknowledged and appriciated...accepted. i think thats a large part of what he does. I think warrens a narcissist,Not in the way most people think of the word as being someone who loves themself,i think warren hates himself. But warrens all warrens had,and after being wronged so much,he obsesses over it. Hes so concerned with warren being wronged that he cant really move on. Think about it,He gets the magical orbs What does he do first? Not kill buffy,He beats up a guy who tortured him in high school. I also think, although this might get me a serial killer of the year award which is not desirable for my first post ever,but..I think hes kinda supposed to be a mirror. I dont mean this in a derogatory way,but alot of fans of buffy are geeks who like the things he do and have the same problems he has. What scared me about warren more than alot of the villians is the idea that anybody could become this. Obviously because im not a sick s.o.b,I couldnt do the things he did. But eh,ive been in the position he seems to be in of seeing no way out. But also i think hes a mirror of the main characters, both their problems in that season and their lives in general. The guy seems like he could of been a member of the scooby gang. Hes smart,Hes geeky, hes got astounding technical skills probably surpassing willows. Hes honestly to me what xander would of been like if xander hadnt of met buffy and gone completely"Gr argh". To me warrens a directionlessly angry character who seeks to destroy and harm but not out of the desire of greed or power,i think out of the feeling of being wronged. No,Im not simply saying hes misunderstood. Nothing excuses the attempted rape and murder of someone,And while hes got legitimate reason to be upset.. hes very childish about it,because well he is mentally a child. but i think theres a humanity there in him not there with lindsey as much, that in his final moments he gets it all...he understands it,what willow does is kinda like a trial of warren. Warren finally has to deal with everything, and i think
honestly in his last moments hes remorseful(Not to say he doesnt deserve what happens,He deserves alot worse than simply that. But I wouldnt classify him as simply evil. i think hes alot of things,a bad person is one,a super genius is another,a victim is arguably one of them, and a child is another. Thats why hes such a great character. I hope this response didnt go on for too long and wasnt too grammatically incorrect.

I agree. Warren was so bad because he was human, and so evil, and didn't care who he hurt. Brilliant.

the part about him being a mirror I think is right. Joss said that Topher in DH was supposed to be a "dark mirror" to his fandom; I think the same goes for the Trio.

So I hadn't watched season 6 in a while when I posted that and I'm going through it now...I completely forgot about "Dead Things," that he's actually a double murderer and attempted rapist (and we don't know about the fate of the frozen security guard). I called him misogynistic in that post in reference to his objectification of women by building a pleasure bot; I forgot that he objectifies and abuses a real woman in his relationship with Katrina.
