Was Alexis under contract from Day 1?

I don't know... I actually heard that Doyle was temporary until Alexis' schedule opened up.

The way I understand it is that Doyle wasn't suppose to die that early. Whither or not Wesley was suppose to turn up anyway or if he was just Doyle's replacement, I'm not sure. But I think he was a fantastic addition to the show.

Doyle was supposed to die that early. Joss always wanted to kill a character in the opening credits, which is why he died so quickly (sadly). I don't think I've ever heard Joss say why Wesley joined Angel, but I think we can all agree...Wesley was perfect in Angel 😀

Actually, that's not why Doyle died. Joss did want to kill a character like that, it's true. But that wasn't the case with Doyle.

To quote David Fury: "Joss has bandied about, 'I love the idea of putting a character in the main credits as one of the stars of the show and then kill him right off the bat, but in the case of Doyle, he didn't want to kill off Doyle. It just became a situation. The work situation became difficult.... It's hard enough to make a television show without the headaches."

I'm not entirely sure what he meant by "the situation", but I think it's safe to say that Doyle's death wasn't suppose to go down like that. Just wanted to clear that up.

I think "the situation" David Fury is referring to is Glenn Quinn's drug addiction. 🙁 It's so sad, and I hate that he got killed off the show, but at least he gave him an amazing send off. I don't think Doyle could have gone out on a better note; "Hero" is an amazing ep.
I loved Doyle, but I love Wesley more. I loved Wes on BtVS, and even more when he came onto "Angel". His character's evolution is the best of both series, I'd say.

Alexis said in an interview once that he was already picked for Angel before BTVS season 3 was wrapped up. He said they wanted an interim time so there could be a story taking place for Wesley in between Buffy and Angel. That story was basically what you hear on the first ep that Wesley is on;watchers council fired me,i became a rouge demon hunter,etc. etc. This was suppose to loosen up the character of Wesley so he could be more relatable when he appeared on Angel.

It is sad that Doyle didn't work out,I loved his character. But I don't see how you could've really progressed Cordy without her getting visions. That seems to be the turning point for her entire character story on ATS. It is the thing that turns her into a compassionate, loving soul who's willing to commit to a life of selfless servitude.
