Was anyone else sad about the end of Season 3?

Feel incrediably sad around the end of this season? This season had the best cast EVER for buffy and basically the last season that was "True" Btvs, "High school girl who is a vampire slayer"

I feel that everything after this season was just to keep the franchise going, and an "added" bonus (Angel spinoff etc)

I love buffy with all my heart, but when i think of buffy, i think about the first three seasons

Anyone have similar sentiments?

Absolutely not. Sorry. I see that you're still very young yourself and maybe don't relate to the issues the Scoobies met in the later seasons as much, but I've noticed that as I matured, I grew to appriciate the later seasons more.

no i mean i understand about them struggling about college etc

but i mean these seasons stuck to the original idea of buffy, based from the movie

after this she dealt with other problems obviously

and i'm not very young 😛 i've been a hardcore fan since the age of 7 😛

Have to agree with Alleycat!

One of the most unique things about Buffy as a series was it was never stagnant. The characters, situations and events all developed constantly and it was that growth that made it what it became. The three years in High School were fantastic but had the entire series been kept within that same era then it would have lost something really special in my opinion. Some of the stories that are remeber most fondly could never have happened if they had all been in Sunnydale High for seven years and so i'm glad that Joss allowed the Scoobies to grow up.

I do pity that Buffy was taken off of college. I'd have preffered her to go through that too. Now, I can't relate too much to the thing I'm experiencing now through my all-time favourite show, and I have to rely on Dawson's Creek mostly, which is a great series too, but it's not Buffy 🙁

I only like season 2 of dawson's creek, abby was my favorite and after that only the last episode, the show was just a reurn of dawson getting jealosu of joey and all the melodrama

I don't define Buffy as 'High School girl who is a vampire slayer.' I saw her as a young woman who had to cope with more than the average girl her age (regardless of what that was at the time). The chosen one versus Buffy and her personal quest in life.

The stages of High School/College/worklife helped to illustrate how her life as the Chosen one would continue to mesh with the other part of her life regardless of what it was.

It was easy for me to indentify because when the show was first aired I was the same age as Buffy and when she left high school and went to college so did I. But I don't think that you have to have that as its happening because there is something in each episode that we can all relate to on so many levels.

The series has always been it's own thing. I would object to in anyway make it be a spin-off from the movie... the movie was a horrible abuse of Joss' great idea, which is why he came up with the show. The show on all levels is much more important than the movie, hell the thing isn't even canonical.

Due to the sheer difference of the movie and season one for me it became its own thing from the start.

I have to agree that the show and the movie are two separate things all together..

Yes, it changes a lot after the high school years, but then again, season 3 is a lot different than season 1 as well... And I love the changes. It is sad in many ways, they grow up and I get easily nostalgic so all BtVS is pretty much nostalgia to me, in different ways. But I love how the show changes with each season, every season is a bit different.. And that is sad in a way but it's also what keeps BtVS interesting. All of it is "real" BtVS though, it's all Buffy... And honestly I think these seven seasons of Buffy are just perfect as a TV complete show. No, none of the seasons are perfect, none of the seasons are alike, but that's what makes it so awesome, in my opinion...

Yep, the movie, whilst loosely based around what actually happened to Buffy before Welcome to the Hellmouth, is just too full of inconsistences to the show for me to consider it as part of the true continuity so it's a seperate thing for me too!

I agree that this season had a great cast, maybe the best. However, I like everyone else said, love the way the show evolves around real life. It doesn't dumb it down ever.

yes, i loved the early seasons of the show, it was these seasons that got me hooked after all, and these season that created my two fave characters (faith and spike)
but i have to say, that i feel that the show became so much better in the later seasons. the show itself had to evolve, they couldn't stay in high school forever.
S6 and S7 are my fave seasons, probably because buffy had to learn how to be an adult instead of the child she was in high school. yes, she was the same girl she always was, the slayer chosen to protect the world, but she had other responisbilites in the later season, most importantly, Dawn. it was interesting to see buffy, and the others, go through these changes.

I know what you mean. There is a sad feeling to the end of season 3 because the highschools years "felt" like Buffy and the rest didn't have the same tone. I don't like how it changed.

The only thing that I feel was a real loss after Season 3 was the loss of Cordelia. Of course, she was replaced with the wonderful Anya, but there's only one Cordy. Other than that I loved the later seasons as I kind of grew up with Buffy being the same age as her as the series made it's initial run.

that was what REALLY brough tthe show down in my eyes 🙁

even though she was on Angel, it's not buffy 🙁

what sucks more is that she didn't have any crossovers or ANY/Lack of reference after s3, it's liek she dissappeared completely from Btvs!

They do mention Cordy at some point, discussing the fact that she works for Angel i LA now. But yeah - she could have showed up in Buffy again, at least in season 7. Considering how much Cordelia evolved after recieving the visions from Doyle, it would have been intreresting to see how the Scoobies would react to her - but then again, the more serious tone that runs through Angel would perhaps make such a guest apperance seem strange and unnatural.

The lack of Cordy mentions sort of made sense to me. As much as i adored the character the fact is that she was only a Scooby due to circumstance and her relationship with Xander. She and Buffy never really became friends so much as learned to tolerate each other and even her slightly better relationship with Willow wasn't enough for her to be the centre of many conversations in Sunnydale. Xander wisely avoided talking about her given the fact that he was now dating a potentially extremely jealous ex-vengeance demon who probably did not want to hear about any past girls in his life and as for Giles, well i can't imagine he lost much sleep when Cordy left for LA!

Truthfully, in real life the relationship these guys had was one that wasn't going to lead to a really close friendship and it made sense to me that Cordy wasn't going to be rushing back to Sunnydale anytime soon.

[Just had to add that even though I disagree that the show wasn't as good after this season.. I agree that this was the best season...]

And yeah, Cordy.. I would miss her on BtVS is she wasn't such an amazing character on AtS, and I'd much rather have her there.. And like people have said, there are reasons they didn't mention her a lot after S3. A bit sad maybe, but understandable.
