Perhaps after her memories had been restored, they could've made it that she went to Sunnydale, but that slowly Jasmyn was awakening in her, and so she would leave after one episode, realising that Sunnydale was the First's turf.

It is a sad ending, the end of 3 years of the high school, Angel leaving, Faith gone, I can see how its sad. But it always was the beginning of a new experience which just helped the show progress and keep viewers. Season 3 is my fave season dont get me wrong, but all good things must come to an end and I just dunno if the fans would have gotten bored if it had of kept the same old routine, the same old school and not went anywhere with it.

I always do feel a little sad, towards the end of that episode. Don't get me wrong, some of the shows Finest Hours (so to speak) came later, but it still did brush with Saved By The Bell Syndrome.
The problem with all shows that start in high school is that sooner or later... everybody moves on, and mostly in different directions. I forget who originally noted it, but high school is probably the last part of our lives that we all have in common. When the Scoobies graduate, they start drifting, and it's to the show's credit that they dealt with that - no matter how hard you try after high school, you do drift. Those friendships don't go away - last week, I met one of my school buddies for the first time since I finished school, and it was like no time had passed - but you're no longer sharing the same building and the same problems for seven hours a day.
So to see the guys together at the end... it is sad. On the one hand - yay, they're all grown up. But on the other hand... they're all grown up. 🙁

I have to say that the last 10 minutes of this season makes me go cold everytime I watch it.
I think it's a mixture of the fact that it was the end of an era and that some of the main characters were moving on (Angel, Cordelia) but also the solidarity shown by the kids at the end.
When Buffy shouts 'Now' and all the kids lose their robes to reveal weapons and crosses etc - gets me every time.
I think the fact that they all stood together and fought (even though they didn't all get on) represented what we all hope to feel at the end of high school - that you a part of something.

I love the end of season 3. It was in fact the end of an era, and just to say something on the side of Joss. It was different. A lot of prime time dramas around the time that this aired, would keep the kids in High School for like 6 years. 90210 anyone?? But he made Buffy and everyone realistic, and not everyone stayed or went to college. But thats season 4, not 3. Anyway, I love when all the students stand together to defeat the mayor, when they showed that solidarity, it was very touching. And that line about making it through High School was soooooo true. But it was very sad, and we didnt know what to expect next. It was a great ep.

I agree with the franchise thing. And I don't think it is an assumption, it is a fact, even Whedon said it. Like he thought DB was eager and ready to lead a show...
You mean Season 4; Willow turning gay, Season 5; Spike falling in love with Buffy and giving a try to dust Drusilla, Season 6; Spuffy and rape, Season 7; The Potentials, cookie speech with a reference to Dawson's Creek, Spike dying as a saint only to return a few months later? Because that's the way IT changed...

According to my memory what he said was that he saw his potential after "I Only Have Eyes For You" he wanted to give him his own show. Its in one of the interviews on season 2.
However, I do agree, that it was all just to keep it going. Though, I am super glad it did, I mean 7 years is a long time for one show. Plus, you add in the 5 that we had Angel, and you've got 12 years worth of good television. Of GREAT television.

I love season three, its Villains are great, the writing seemed to be spot on for most of the episodes, the lesser characters had some true time to shine, the whole arc was great.
I too see the show split like seasons 1, 2 and 3 and seasons 4+, but thats not a bad thing.
I liked the school years, they were fun, allowed some of the sillier monsters to be used and moved away from, while still keeping with the Feel of what was expected by the show.
The College/Adult years, i adore as well. The new human challenges that face people when school is over and the idea that even with the best laid plans, things can go in a completely different field.

While season 3 is my favorite, i love all the seasons, they go the way the real world works. As time goes by you evolve, and grow, and move on from some things, and some things stay the same. And it worked the same way with Angel. Real people evolve, and grow up. And so did the characters on the show, and thats one of the millions of things that I love about the show.
*One of the others is that the dream sequences are like real dreams, they dont make sense, and thats the way it works.

I just think that Joss made the show as real as he could, while dealing with monsters. And I know when I ended high school, it was sad, but it was something that inevitably happens. And you move on, and grow from it.

While I agree that season two and season three were 'in their prime' (the best seasons at that time), I was not sad at the end. I think that while the remaining seasons did not have the same style at 2&3, it still have some excellent storylines, drama, comedy and characters. Really, all of the seasons make up a great story, and without one season, character, or story there wouldn't have been others. Everything that was done on the show still related to reality (life's challenges).
I feel that seasons 1, 2, and 3 were the best seasons. I was not happy about the end of this season at all. It brought on a new chapter too Buffy where they face grown up issues and grow up themselves. It was nice to follow a cast that grows up in a series and not stay the same like most do.

Well I can say that I was indeed sad. I t felt like the end. No more high school. It felt like I was leaving Sunnydale High. No more Angel. No more Cordelia. Only college lies ahead. I really loved their high school years though. They were the best seasons of Buffy to me....
I get what you're saying but I think all the Buffy seasons were great. I mean, I totally loved the scenarios and stuff in seasons 1-3 but c'mon, some of them were a little off-beat for people who mature faster.
I still love all the seasons but I did learn to understand and deal with the later problems, as I too, matured.
