Was Buffy feeling it?

Do you think Buffy had "feelings" (of the good) towards Spike earlier on, but was in denial because she Slayer, him Bad guy.

What do you consider the turning point of when she had feelings for him?
 
I think she had an attraction to him almost immediately but she didn't even realize it. She accepted him as a friend in season 4. She never would have helped him avoid the initiative if she didn't see him as part of her circle. In a way Spike was part of Angel's family and I think part of the friendship was based on that. Spike was Angel's annoying little brother in some ways. I think they had chemistry from the beginning based on sexual attraction as well as a respect of being the best of the best vs. the worst of the worst, a friendship grew during season 4 & season 5 and by the end of season 5 Buffy was seeing Spike different and starting to respect some sides of his personality and his strength. Season 6 she realized the attraction part of the equation. Season 7 she realized the love that had developed. I think she loved him in Season 6 but couldn't admit it to herself but when he got a soul she let herself admit that she had loved him for awhile.

At the start of S6 they were friends. She confided in him, they hung out. It was only when she went all sex ragey that she started hating on him again. That was all anger, rage, disappointment and inner conflict on her part and she took it out on him AND herself, but I think it could definitely have gone differently.

Ultimately Joss wasn't going to let her love him without a soul, but he could have, and WOULD have gone and got it anyway if he felt Buffy cared about him and he wanted to be a good man for her. He wouldn't have needed to be beaten, and the AR to finish that arc. It would have been a very different sort of drama and a very different way to play out that arc.

I wish it could have happened. I really hated the scenes where they beat on each other and she beat on him in a sort of personal rage as opposed to regular Vamp vs Slayer fashion.

Do you think that "Something Blue" influenced her feelings for Spike, or did she just attribute it totally to the spell and somehow completely leave it and any residual effects behind?

I totally agree, that there was an instant attraction between them, chemistry. It's weird but true, but in real life it's not uncommon for people to become friends with someone they hated at first sight. Like there is just some kind of energy there that needs to be played out and it could go either way.
 
love and hate, 2 sides of the same coin. Generally you can only truly hate the people you love because if you don't love them you don't care enough to feel hate.
 
I think Something Blue did do something for their mutual feelings, even though neither were prepared to act on it at the time.

You never want to admit you're attracted to the bad boy, but there were plenty of times she could have staked him but chose not to, using the excuse that they needed his intel or his strength. A bit like when Xander became a military man under a spell and continued for a short while to have that skill within him, I think something similar happened post-Something Blue. She just didn't realise it was a physical attraction, more a necessity under the circumstances.
 
I think it all happened when Spike went to Buffy to make a deal that they could get out of Sunnydale in exchange for the information of what was going on with Angelus and Acathla. Buffy had not seen this side of Spike before, wanting the world to continue including Manchester United and happy meals on legs nor had she seen the kind of relationship Spike had with Drusilla. Spike also had the emergency information that Angelus had Giles, so she made a deal with a vampire for the first time.

I see what you mean. When we see a new side of someone we realize there may be all sorts of things in them we didn't expect beyond just that one new thing. We become interested in finding more

Residual magic may have been in play but even before the spell was cast in Something Blue Buffy seemed softer towards Spike. When he said "how long will I live after I tell you" she just playfully hit the side of his head and also when he was chained in the bathtub and when they were arguing about having "stones" there was a whole lot of sexual tension between the two of them.

Like it's safer to act on attraction when it can't be acted on. We'll say things on line and on the phone we might not say in person. She could poke Spike with a stick, or flirt because he was chained up and he couldn't do anything about it, and then she could maintain plausible deniability.

Because people don't say things like that to people they have absolutely NO attraction to, and are repulsed by. Well, maybe they do, like the jerk who asked Dawn if she had a date to the dance, just so he could laugh at her when she got her hopes up.
