Was Buffy hypocritical bashing Andrew for killing Jonathan?

Am I the only one who thought it was hypocritical of Buffy to bash Andrew meanwhile she continued to allow Anya, Spike, and Willow to live under roof

Well, it was a while since I saw the ep admittedly, but wasn't she - at least in part - trying to get Andrew to own up to killing Jonathan and take responsibility for the action?

As I recall, it was part of her plan to close the Seal of Danzalthar with his tears. Although we did not expect it, it seems that Buffy knew that this would be the effect (since Andrew had opened the seal originally). It had nothing to do with the hypocrisy that was going on with other characters.

Even if she wasn't doing it to close the seal and trick Andrew, I don't think she was being hypocritical.

Willow, Anya and Spike all had extenuating circumstances to their actions (Willow was grieving and high on magic, Spike was a vampire and Anya was a vengeance demon). In the case of Willow, it's not an excuse for her actions but it at least explains them.

Some will debate that Andrew was under the influence of the First but truth is he was always willing to back stab Jonathan. And furthermore, he doesn't take any responsibility for what he did. To an extent, at least all other characters did. Anya in Selfless, Spike joined the fight for good, and Willow, although never admitted her wrong directly, decided to go the England and seek some help. Andrew never took any steps to bettering himself, at least not prior to Storyteller.

Buffy was just trying to get Andrew to own up to what he did. Up until then Andrew was just casual about the fact that he killed Jonathon and kept blaming it on The First. But then he admits that he knew it wasn't really Warren and he did it anyway. With Willow, she's Buffy's best friend and she knows that Willow feel bad about what she did and is trying to control herself. Should Willow be a little more repenting, maybe, but she at least feels bad and learns from it. With Andrew, he did not feel guilty and that's the problem. Anya, felt bad in Selfless and decided to be a human again. The problem I have with Anya is that that is the only time she shows those emotions and goes back to being callus. Spike is trying to redeem himself, the trigger is another debate but he did chose the side of good. So the difference is that the others know what they did was wrong and took steps to change that, whereas Andrew would not accept responsibility for his actions. I don't know if Buffy was hypocritical, but it got the results that we needed to see.

I agree with the others. It wasn't about hypocrisy. It was about closing the seal and they needed Andrew's tears to do. But this episode was also about getting Andrew to admit what he had done. Spike, Anya, Willow--all of them know that they've done bad things. Up until this point, Andrew had taken no real responsibilty for what he had done to Jonathan. It was easier to say that The First made him do it, but that's not true. He had made the decision to go along with what The First was saying, and he was the one who stabbed Jonathan. He needed to own up to that.

Also, I feel like you're forgetting that Buffy was also letting Andrew live under her roof as well. So, no, I don't think she's a hypocrite

Buffy is a hypocrite in S7, just not in this scene.

Up until this point Andrew has shown no remorse for killing Jonathan, taken no responsibility and has pretty much being in denial the whole time.

Buffy gets Andrew to face up to what he did- that was her intent by saying what she said.
Spike, Anya and Willow had all, to some extent, taken responsibility for the evil they had commited and were trying to move on. Buffy trusted them to do that. 🙂
