Was Buffy too trusting of Spike?

Something made Buffy trust Spike while others didn't really. She trusted the vampire with her little sis and with her mother. Maybe sometimes she didn't have a choice but trust him. But she must have seen something in him that other couldn't.
If we look at season 7, Spike already had a soul, yet nobody except for Buffy trusted him. Buffy addmited that she trusted Spike while she didn't trust the others.

Was she too trusting of him? Should she have trusted him at all, was it even smart?

I do think at times Buffy was too trusting of Spike. In Season 5 he hadn't yet proved he could be trusted, and she was always leaving Dawn with him, and he'd hang out with Joyce and stuff. At that point, he had worked with them but he had also done things that were meant to take Buffy down, such as working with Adam and then of course, "The Doctor" thing where he was raising the demon eggs. I felt like he didn't really deserve any trust til about midway through Season 7.

Seriously, I think she trusted him more than every other person did. And that's her character. She trusts people even if they don't trust themselves. Very heroic. This time she got luck, Spike was a good guy and I loved Spuffy but it's this old question "what if". Spike could tear the hole Scooby Gang to the ground, Buffy included if he wanted. All he had to do was to abuse the trusts Buffy gave him. Buffy has something like a sixth sense when it goes about the character of people.
Next time she sets her trusts maybe in the wrong person. And then?

Yes, in season 4 (letting him stay with Giles and Xander) and season 5 (letting him take care of the mother and Dawn) she was far too trusting of Spike to leave him alone with them.

Though I think Buffy just found him to be very pathetic and not a threat to anyone due to the chip. Even before he got the chip Buffy found him to be pathetic (though still a threat). She didn't treat him as a big bad, more as a joke, so her dropping her guard and letting him take care of her family after he's been "spayed" wasn't much of a shock.

I don't think she was too trusting in season 7 though. I think he earned her trust once he got a soul and was sane again. She knew of his feelings towards her and that he wouldn't do anything to harm their friendship.
