Was Dawn Only Made From Buffy?

I just saw a gifset on Tumblr about the foreshadowing of Dawn and a couple of the lines quoted got me thinking if perhaps Dawn was made of both Buffy and Faith? (Fuffy shippers start your engines 😛)

The lines were:

Faith helping Buffy make the bed, saying "... with little sis coming...." and then later Buffy in Restless in her room looking at the bed saying, "Faith and I just made that bed" (and I think Tara?) asking "For who?"

So, I'm wondering since the monk's intentions were to send the Key to the slayer in the form of a sister, could Dawn theoretically be related to both Buffy and Faith, since they were the slayers.

I think it's certainly a possibility.

I mean, the monk said that they 'took the Key, made it human, and sent it to the Slayer in the form of a sister'. But there were two Slayers - how were the monks to know which Slayer they were actually sending her to? I don't think there's ever anything specific that says that Dawn was sent purposefully to BUFFY, just to the SLAYER.

So, yeah, I can see the logic in that theory.

There was also a theory by a certain ex-member that suggested that Dawn was not Buffy's sister, but actually her biological daughter that was plucked from the future of an alternate reality where, in IWRY, Angel didn't swallow the day and Buffy wound up pregnant from their day together.

Possibly the monks didn't use any specific Slayer, and only chose Buffy to be Dawn's sister because she was the most readily available being who would have any real chance of protecting Dawn from Glory. Remember, by that time, it was Faith, not Buffy, who was the official Slayer, so, technically, Dawn wouldn't have been made from THE Slayer if she were made exclusively from Buffy.

Assume that the monks could somehow salvage parts of the Shadow Men's original spell, however, and they might be able to tap into the disembodied essence that makes the "one girl in all the world" unique, and use that to create a shell in which to store the Key.

(Does that make any sense at all to anyone but me?)

This will sound so incredibly stupid, but Dawn's hair is making me lean towards Faith being in the mix too. She may have Summer's blood, but that is not Summer's hair. /worst logic of all time. 😛

I remember that theory, I saw it around a lot in fic, though I think the latest issue of Buffy S9 thwarts it.

I haven't read the latest. I'm living off of summaries these days, lol.

Except that Buffy's blond hair comes out of a bottle.
As a Fuffy (I only use that word because it seems hilariously inappropriate for that relationship) fan myself (and fan is understating it severely), I really like this theory. It's one of those where there's not much to suggest that it is the case, but it doesn't actively contradict anything that I can think of and could be a great place to start for creating fanfiction (now you've got the gears turning in my brain).

I know it sounds like terrible logic, but now the hair thing is sticking in my brain, and it's making me think there's a bit of Faith in the mix. It's the dumbest reason ever, but that's also part of why I like this idea.

RIGHT? I know it is an awful place on which to put a logical argument but it's like I can't ignore it.

We're like sisters... with really different hair!<< I literally can't get that quote out of my head.

Yeah, Buffy's a bottle blonde but I still say that Dawn does not have Summer's hair. I can't even pretend to have anything approaching a logical argument for that. 😱

Interesting idea; I suppose it is a possibility. Although, I wonder why Faith and Dawn don't seem to have the connection Buffy and Dawn do.

It makes sense why the monks would drop Dawn off on Buffy's doorstep since Faith was in jail at the time.

Very true. Plus, since they needed Key protected, it wouldn't have made sense for them to create memories of Dawn being Faith's sister if she couldn't actually provide protection for her at the time.

You know, I was actually waiting for you to reply with this. Truth be told, I thought you would have been quicker off the mark 😛

I was quicker commenting, I just couldn't press "Submit" for laughing at "World's Funniest Home Videos."

I'll try to do better in the future.

Biologically, she could be made out of Buffy and Faith, but her personality could have been factored in later, once the monks realized that it would be Buffy that they would be sending Dawn to, and thus they built her personality accordingly. You have to have a shell before you can put stuff inside it. 😉

^ Good point, plus like Kean said, no point in adding in memories with Faith if they knew she wouldn't be able to protect her.

Lol she doesn't have hair like Faith either. Faiths hair looks a little thicker and its darker. Dawns hair actually looks thin like Buffy and Joyce its just brown...and doesn't Hank have brown hair? (Dont mind me Im a really big hair person lol)

This would have been a brilliant story. There are so many ways it could have gone.

Buffy and Faith could have bonded over it, really settled things, or Dawn ad Faith could have gottne on real well and Buffy would have been pissed as then mad cuz she'd be the disciplinary mom and Faith would be the fun older sister!

I think it would have more to do with Faith and Buffys connection as Slayers, there's almost a sisterly bond between them in a 'sisters fighting for the cause' kinda way, that make sense for Faith the have knowledge and speak like that in the dream where they are part of the slayer family, and we've seen thats a power of the slayer, that dreamscape place is were she interacts with the first slayer on a number of occasions and the idea of the slayer prophecy dreams in general.

But I don't think they are actually related, I think she's all Buffy.

Hahah the hair theory is ridiculous but...Dawn's hair is definitely thicker than Buffy's! 😉 But seriously, I like this theory. I choose to believe it! I've never heard this before, but it makes sense to me. Someone needs to write a fanfic 😀

Ack. Amazing. Mind blown!

This makes SO much sense. For all of the reasons already stated.

(Is Buffy really a bottle blonde? I mean I known Sarah is, but I always assumed Buffy was just kind of a naturally darker blonde--any of the darkness that we see I think we're supposed to ignore as it's coming from Sarah. Did Buffy actually have time to dye her hair? I mean if she were a brunette and she dyed it blonde--that's a LOT of upkeep. To get it to look as good it did, she'd need to visit a salon on a fairly regular basis. Joyce is blonde, and I think Hank is too. Natural wouldn't be out of the question...)

Anyway. Fanfiction in which Buffy and Faith unite over the discovery that Dawn is made from both of them...I don't read much fanfiction but Kean if you write this one I'm sure I'll read it! 😉

As far as I'm aware the correct terminology is:
Faith is the slayer.
Buffy is a slayer.
So the question becomes do we blame the monks for sending her to the wrong one or do we blame Dawn for being crap at reading a map?

And should you doubt that Dawn is from/of Faith, check out Dawn dancing with CJ. When wearing the football jacket made the girls like him.

Wow. I've never actually considered this before.
Buffy was given this big spiel about her and Dawn having the same blood...could in fact be Faith's blood. Haha. Interesting. I call for a DNA test.
I'd have to assume though that the monk's deliberately sent Dawn to Buffy. Faith, given the mental state she was in, would have probably sold her on the demon market or something. I think it also has a lot to do with how Dawn would be protected and the Summer's family was the better choice.
I must admit though, I was always a little surprised that Dawn wasn't a potential...that probably would have been a cop out though.
