Was it true...?

Just wondering, because I have read this in several places. Did Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan seriously not like each other? I've only read about this recently, had no idea anything like this was going on back when the show was on the air.

Does anyone know? Are they friends now?

There have been some rumors, but they both denied it. Like prophecygrrl said, cast wasn't close as they have been in earlier seasons.
Like David and Sarah. But Sarah stayed good with Seth Green.

Ohh I see. I was trying to find the article, and I can't seem to. I think it said something like "and the feud became more heated when Sarah quit the show and didn't tell anyone, and Alyson was angry." Something along those lines.

^ That last one I've heard too. But I think that was the entire cast and they had a reason to be mad. They were her co-workers and dependant on her and not telling them was really not nice of Sarah. IF it's true, I've only heard that was a rumor, too.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they all hated it each other by the time Season 7 came along and Sarah announced to Entertainment Weekly that she wasn't coming back. I mean, she definitely could have had the decency to talk with all the cast first and just let them know "I don't want to keep playing this character forever, and I think it's important to leave now to pursue other things."
I read an article where Nick said once that Sarah was really unhappy from the moment the whole Buffy/Spike thing started happening. He said that she felt like it was very out of character for Buffy, and she kept talking to Joss about things she felt were more natural for the character but he ignored it because he wanted to keep James on, and that's where the problems began.

I heard that Alyson was upset because Sarah didn't break the news to them that she was leaving the show, and thus putting an end to it, but I honestly think that can be said for the entire cast, not just Alyson.

Alyson and Sarah were really close in the earlier seasons. When Sarah hosted Saturday Night Live, at the end of the show, she held up a hand-made sign that said 'I miss you, Aly' on it, which I thought was sweet.

I don't think any of the cast were invited to Sarah's wedding, which may have also caused a few noses to be put out of joint.

I know that Sarah and Nicholas Brendon still see each other occasionally, at the grocery store, I think he said. He said he had to promise that he wasn't stalking her, lol.

I guess it's like any friendships, they just drifted apart.

There was once this interview with Alyson Hannigan in a German magazine (back in 2002 I think) where she talked about it. I don't remember exactly what it said, but I do remember her saying they were all sort of angry that SMG just quit the show without telling anyone, so they basically all ended up unemployed from one to the next day.

I read that Joss said that SMG and him all broke it to the cast before SMG did the interview so they weren't caught off guard. Someone also pointed out how when the casts talk about each other (they used ASH as an example) the way they talked about each other seemed cute but when they got to SMG they mostly noted her being professional and not "warm and loving" like they did with Aly.

I'm sure the rest of the cast still gets along and maybe only Seth and Sarah still talk? Cause Aly was talking about Nicholas on her twitter.

all the more respect I have for them for portraying the friendships on the show! I know we as fans would love the actors to be as close as the characters (I know I do), but thinking about it, I really don't understand why it's so important to us...

Ah, I'd 100% agree with Sarah in that case so.

I think one should take these rumours with a pinch of salt though, it seems to me that everytime a show like Buffy comes along that has a core group of best friends that the media always want to make it out that they actually hate each other in real life.

Sarah was the one who suggested to Joss that they make Spike a love interest.
She was unhappy with how they handled the relationship between their characters. She didn't anticipate how dark they would portray that stage in their relationship.

The parts that she felt were out of character were the balcony scene; you know which one. And the bondage type stuff between them throughout the season.

I know that Sarah and James were friends; there are numerous quotes going back and forth from the two; referring to the other like a sibling. James was blown away by how prepared she was for the work; and she loved the edge that he brought to the show whenever Spike was on.

Sarah does voice work for Robot Chicken; but I don't know if that's the cause of her and Seth's friendship, or just a byproduct.

I think when you spend that much time with people; it does turn into a surrogate family. One you might not always like; but you'll find hard not to love.

I think the closest cast I've heard of is Supernatural; all I ever see is Jared and Jensen yucking it up.

Never heard about this one. I know she and James were good friends, but I've heard she was against it since the begining.
She and Nick had an idea to make Xander love interested for Buffy in S7, as far as I know.

Nick said that he and Sarah were pretty sure that that's where Joss was wanting to take things, so they played a lot of late S6 and S7 with that idea in mind, but it all came to nothing.

As professional and dedicated an actor as I have always heard that Sarah was, it wouldn't be hard for me to imagine that when she did actually have some time when she wasn't either preparing for or actually playing her role, she would want time alone or with someone other than the people who she had to work with every day. On the other hand, also, given her work ethic, I find it very hard to imagine her being on good terms with her costars, simply because that would make everybody's work easier.

Sarah and Alyson might not have been best friends, but I think that they were, at least, friendly in their dealings with each other. As for Sarah announcing that Season 7 would be her last year on the show, I seem to remember someone, maybe Joss, but I'm not certain, that everyone pretty much knew before Season 7 started that it would be their last year, but that they were all sworn to secrecy before the official announcement. If that's true, I can't see how Alison could have any really bad feelings about it.

I seem to remember some SMG interview or another during the high school years, where she stated she loved her co-workers so much that they went mall shopping together, and spent Saturday mornings at Joss's house reading Shakespeare together (Before James Marsters turned it into a jam session with his guitar).

Maybe things changed by the end. Who knows. It matters little to me. What matters is what is on screen, not what happened behind the screen.

And after what they did to Sarah's character in the last 2 seasons, I'd be ready to leave, too.
