I liked it. They had a good storyline, but Riley, no matter how hot I think he is, was quite dull. Way too tame for the show. I was glad when he left.

Season 5 was great except for one thing - Riley.
He was pretty good in season 4 when he had those army guys backing him up, but now I didn't see the point.
Then, when they got rid of him, the show started to pick up with episodes of the new sister Dawn, Buffy's mom's tragic death, and the evil God Glory.

I'm new here, so sorry if I'm bringing up an old thread, but I thought season 5 was pretty incredible. Spike finally came into his own, Riley finally lost his, and 'The Body' is one of the most ambitious & moving pieces of TV I've ever seen!

No Faith though, and VERY little Wiily... pardon the expression!

Season 5 was ok. I liked it. But I agree with everyone- Riley sucked. t'is good that he's gone. It's also great that Dawn was there. She's one of my favourite caracters. And Glory was the best bigbad ever.

Lots of Riley haters here...I'm not his biggest fan, but Riley was relatively interesting because he took on the role of the insecure boyfriend. Previously, when the Initiative was pumping him full of drugs, he was rather strong and reliable. Season 5 introduced his weaknesses. With the addition of Dawn, Buffy regarded Riley a just another person she had to look after, someone else she had to protect. I'm glad he finally left, but I think his character was sufficient. Remember that originally Buffy liked him because he was a normal guy and that's just what she wanted. Then she found out about his soldier status and ended up accepting him in spite of it. Ironically, when he became a real normal kind of guy she distanced herself from him. The one thing I like about the Riley story line is that it addresses those inferiority issues that all the Scoobies have with Buffy. As for willingly being bit by vampires, I liken that to Buffy's experiences with Spike in S6. They, Buffy and Riley respectively, both craved something--emotion and desire, to be able to adequately feel-- and had no way of appeasing those sensations and so they sought solace in a deep and dangerous place.

Yeah, I agree it was a good season, but it was soooooooooo much better after Riley went, but I was upset that he didn't die 'coz then he cant come back.

If you cant tell I hate Riley!::thumb::

haha i agree entirely. Riley was a big downer. Was so glad when he left but I felt so icky and sad when he came back all married. Like I just was kinda hoping that it would be Buffy who'd pick up her life and Riley who'd be still pining for her.

i thought it was okay but the only idea i didn't like for season 5 was when dawn came into the picture...so sorry to all you dawn fans out there! luv ya lots! MWAH!!! xxx

I really loved season 5... the only season I like better is 3, simply because it was all about Faith!😀 S5 started out slow, but after Riley was gone and the main story arcs got on a roll, it was awesome. It was cool how no one knew what was going on with Dawn, also having Joyce being really sick and eventually dying brought good drama, the Glory/Ben issue was really cool, and of course the season finale was awesome. I loved how throughout the whole season all that suspense and tension was being built up to finally culminate in "The Gift," which was probably my favorite Buffy episode ever. Awesome season🙂

i was just reading this, and while i agree with the almost universal dislike of Riley (sort of), I have to wonder if the likes of marc Blucas know just what people thjought of his character and if he does it must sting. I think i'd hate it if a group of fans almost universally hated my character.

I don't mind Marc Blucas ... I don't mind Riley ... not anymore, he was marvelous in "As you Were" ... I just don't like him with Buffy, neither did I like Angel when he was with Buffy. And nowadays I do like Spike, because I came to the conlcusion that their was nothing wrong with Buffy's lovers, but with Buffy herself!

I didn't catch all the episodes of Buffy in season five. In fact, I stopped watching it in Season four, but my friend would ask me to tape most of the eps in season five, so I'd watch them anyway, and I'm glad I did. I liked season five. I especially loved the finale. VERY well done. Some people didn't like it, but I thought it was great. So...from what I remember from this season, my vote goes to "It was the best" (because it I thought it was better than just OK)
