Was Spike the best part of S4?

I'm re-watching S4 (and S1 of Angel ) right now and the string of episodes to open the season aren't great. They aren't terrible or anything (with one or two exceptions) but there's just nothing...special or exceptional about the majority of them. However, once Spike joins the show, I think it picks up. Almost every scene he's in after getting the chip in his head is just so funny.

I actually think it speaks to the acting ability of James Marsters that he's able to transition his performances from the badass villain to essentially a comedy character, and still keep Spike cool and an important part of the show.

As much as I liked Spike being a new regular on the shpw in Season 4 was that Angel WASN'T there.

I just couldn't resist. Now, seriously, though, the best part of Season 4 was that the Scoobies finally got out of that stupid high school ans took their first hesitant step out into the real world. Granted, it was just the real world of college, but it was a beginning, plus, it brought back some fond, and not so fond, memories of my own college days. Anyhow, they couldn't stay irresponsible kids forever. Adam, as a the season Big Bad was pathetic,though.

I reckon he's one of the only good things about season 4. Whenever I re-watch it, I'm always going for 'Something Blue' or 'Pangs' usually. I can't resist watching them. He's hilarious and makes watching in my opinion, the worst season, tolerable.

There are quite a few good episodes in season 4 (Something Blue, Hush, Pangs) but Spike really is the highlight of that season for me. There are a few really significant downers in S4 (eg Oz leaving, Riley) but Spike really compensates for those.
Spike with a chip = Comedy gold!

I think the best thing about season 4 was the comedy episodes themselves. Spike just happened to be in them, but it was the writing of everyones characters in those episodes I loved. The Halloween episode, Something Blue, Hush etc.

I only ever rewatch the Season 4 episodes with Spike in, so yeah for me he was one of the things that kept me watching.

No, I really don't think so. He's good though...
If I had to I would argue that Anya is the best part of season 4, she's wicked funny in this season.

I dont know if he was the best part of the season.

I loved Willows story in Season 4, that was probably my favourite.

But this was a brilliant season for Spike, Season 4 was the best he ever was in my opinion.
