I was wondering this also...Spike had actually reverted to how he was before when the big bad had control over him. Yet in the previous seasons he had actually done a few good things..I mean it doesn't take back all the rotten things he did..but for example when Buffy was crying on her porch..and he came there to kill her..and ended up comforting here..

I mean if he didn't have a soul..just how was he able to be intune or even care about someone he hated who was hurting so much? Not just that even if you hated Spike you had to admit that some of the things he said were pretty profound...

Or his relationship with Buffy as screwed up as it was..when she died in the gift..we all knew Spike was so hurt about it..but why was he hurt? Vampire don't feel..especially not William the bloody..There are just some questions that will never be answered I guess.

I wish I could explain it better..but I'm sure you understand where I'm getting at.

My friends mum thinks Spike has had a soul since series 2 because of how much he loved Drusilla and then how much he loved buffy. She says, as was also said in the show, that you can't love without a soul therefore Spike must have a soul. But then how could he do such terrible things and what did the African demon guy do to im then if he always had a soul.

Also wouldn't another demon have picked up on it like Anya did in series 7?

I think Spike was just a unique vampire. He always loved Drusilla, without a soul, ever since he was turned. Spike seemed to feel more emotions than other vampires.

I don't know..I mean there are people with souls (caleb) who have done things completely evil..maybe their souls were never really taken away..but they used it as an excuse to do evil acts?

I don't believe that Spike had his soul throughout, or even some part of it. He was unique, that's for sure. I think the reason that Spike was a little bit different and acted more 'humanly' was because of the chip. His chipd first got him sto stop feeding, and then it all kind of snowballed from there. With this, he began to realize and become more alive. That helped a lot.

My theory is that different strengths of demons take over a vampire. If a lesser demon takes over the body that vampire has more of the humans characteristics that the person had. For example Spike and Harmony. I thin Liam had a very strong demon take over, that's why Angel and Angelus are so very different. Of course this is just my theory, I could be way off.

Ohh I like that theory!
But if you notice, a lot of the "weaker" people who get turned into vampires, still have more human feelings then the strong willed people do. Spike didnt have any friends and always got turned down, Harmony was a bimbo who rarely thought for herself, Spikes lackie from Season2 was a bookworm who probably didnt have that much self confidence, Drusilla thought she a sin 24/7 and probably led the Cinderalla life.

Well, I think the opposite is true. I think it would be based on human strength and not demon. In fact, I thought that is what was clearly shown. And Angelus and Angel are not so different. One has a conscience, one doesn't. Hatred, anger, fear, are these not also human traits?

Angelus often uses his artistic talents, something which is clearly a human attribute.

Having no friends and being turned down a lot does not make Spike weak, it makes him unpopular.

But Spike was weak. You could see that. He was a mummy's boy and he couldnt stand up for himself when others were ridiculing him.

Angel, however was the opposite. He'd go out every night drinking and fighting.

Angel became one of the most evil vampires ever, Spike became who he was. But vampires must take on some of their human traits because even though the demon takes over, it still has all knowledge and memories of the host, so its possible that it would be like the host in someways, just evil.

But theres no way Spike had a soul before season 7. For one thing, he'd know if he got it back and wouldnt go looking for it in season 6. And for another, thats the point of vampires. Demons without souls.

That's hilarious! Have you ever thought about a career in comedy writing? I definitely need to get a screen caption of this..I'll set it to my desktop background, every time I turn this laptop on. Instant amusement.

You're so Scottish. I'm sorry sweetheart, but we've both been lied to. No matter what they tell you, going out every night and getting snockered does not make you a strong person.

But Spike was weak.
For the record, I didn't say he wasn't weak, I said the reasons Primal Slayer gave did not depict weakness.
You could see that. He was a mummy's boy and he couldnt stand up for himself when others were ridiculing him.

People would argue that it wasn't about not standing up for himself, it was about being the bigger man and refusing to lower himself to their level.

As for the mother thing. OMFG he loved his mother with his whole heart, the weak fool. Only weaklings love a dying parent!

Yes, but the problem seems to be that, Angel and Angelus are two different people, while Spike presoul and re-ensouled is the same person. Why is that?

Yes..I do feel that Spike was weak..and so was Angel in different ways..Spike let everyone run over him..Angel..let his emotions take complete control over him.anyways back to the the topic

Good point..I don't think it was just that he was unique..there had to be something more..it seemed as a vampire he was even more passionate than before.

It doesn't?????? Damn, I guess that doesn't bode well for me, lol.

Spike was different he had a part of William deep within him i Guess
he didn't entirely lost his former self, a piece of William always flodded at Spike's surface making him do things that vampires aren't supposed to... hope i made a clear point

But Dru also says in "Crush" that vampires do feel love...although it is probably through the filter of evil...you know, obsessive, stalker love as opposed to fluffy puppy love...

Spike wanted Fluffy love... Faith was up for it, but Buffy vetoed it, she doesn't do threeways,..
