Was Sweet the singing demon in OMWF modeled after Angel's Lorne?

After watching OMWF on my S6 DVD, I always did think that Sweet the singing demon was modeled or at least inspired by the singing demon Lorne played by the late and very talented Andy Hallet.

So was Sweet inspired by Lorne?

It's interesting. There's also a similarity in that Lorne could see people's secrets when they sing, while Sweet got people to reveal their secrets when they sang.

Certainly their tastes in colourful clothing is similar. 🙂

But, singing style-wise, Lorne is a bit more of a club/lounge singer, wheras Sweet has more of a cabaret vibe to him- more of a showman I guess.

Similar but distinctive, despite their similarities.

I wonder if, early in the germination of the idea, Lorne had been planned to make an appearance or even star in the episode, but they couldn't get as much plot out of him as they could out of Sweet because Lorne wouldn't want to take Dawn or Xander back to his home dimension, and taking them back to LA is (marginally 😉) less of a threat.
