Was Tara right?

You mean when Tara left cos Willow was using too much magic?
I think she was right to do so in Tabula Rasa, to think someone you trust put a spell on you......
I would of dumped her too. 😛 I think Tara was a little annoying when she was moaning about how she could of went out and bought decorations rather than use a spell.
She was only worried i suppose, she Loved willow that much..
 
Yep. She tried to stay. My husband struggled with addiction early in our marriage. It came down to me basically kicking him out, for him to get help. Which he did, and everything's been great for many years now. Tara and Willow seemed to be heading in that direction til Warren came along 🙁 At some point, to stay is to enable.
 
I never really thought about this. But yeah, she gave Willow second chance, and Willow promised her something, she broke that promise and Tara was disapointed in her. I think Willow couldn't stop doing magic with Tara around because Tara was that magical thing in her life.
 
I think she was. It kind of annoyed me how Willow didn't stop anyway. I think it was kind of a slap in the face to Tara.
 
I think Tara was more than fair. She made it clear long before Tabula Rasa that she was worried about Willow using magic too much and Willow was like "Oh well, I don't care what you think." And even after Tara gave her the chance to stop, Willow didn't love her enough to do it; she loved the magic more. So yes, I always sided with Tara on this.
 
I am actually really happy that Tara took a stand and broke up with Willow. I know so many people who have been involved with drug addicts/alcoholics and they have stayed with them, putting their own happiness and safety at risk in the process. Tara had the sense and strenght to step away. Willow thought she was untouchable, that she could have it all. She needed to be reminded that that wasn't the case. It opened her eyes to see that she had an actual problem.

Also, it wasn't just a matter of staying involved with an addict. Willow used magic to alter Tara's mind. Twice. (and possibly more times for all Tara knew - it's not like she'd remember it). Tara really had no reason to expect that Willow wouldn't do the same thing again, so she basically had to leave for her own safety.

Exactly. Willow was definitely going too far, and Tara was the only one out of all her loved ones who noticed and cared enough to say something about it. Willow didn't just mess with Tara's mind; she messed with all of them. I honestly couldn't believe that Tara and Giles were the only ones who gave a crap.

For the record: I, too, think she did the right thing. No matter how much you love someone, you shouldn't let him/her ruin you.

My reason for asking, is that I've been mulling over some relationships that I have seen falling apart largely due to illness (mental or physical) in one of the parts. I think that is such a painful scenario when trying to imagine myself in it. On one hand, I can easily see how it can be absolutely necessary to leave, but then I also know that I'd feel all kinds of lousy for leaving someone who I liked to believe needed me. From there my thoughts stumbled towards Willow and Tara.
 
Yes, I think so. It was what she felt she needed to do for herself, and I can understand that. Willow betrayed her trust. It was totally understandable that Tara left Willow. Sure, Willow might have needed her as she said, but it wasn't Willow's place to guilt-trip Tara into staying with her because Willow selfishly wanted her around.
 
Well, I think the big thing was that Willow was altering Tara's mind, forming their relationship. And they talked about it and Willow promised not to use magick, and then not only does Willow use magick, she uses it to alter Tara's mind... again. I think Tara was right to break up with Will at that point. If the only issue had been the overuse of magick, it would have been different, but once Willow started using that magick on Tara's *mind* there was no way the relationship could have been healthy until Will "quit the juice." It was a betrayal of trust on two levels, and I think sticking with Willow after that would be akin to staying with an abusive partner.
 
Right... And like Tara said (and I'm paraphrasing here) in OMWF, after all she had been through with Glory stealing her mind in S5, it was absolutely deplorable for Willow to do what she did to Tara.
