Was the Mayor right? Did he predict Buffy/Angel's future?

Do you think The Mayor was right about Buffy and Angel's future? Did he predict their breaking up? Or was he just a darn good sport as the Mayor would say! Lol

I think he predicted the future they would have if they had decided to stand exactly where they were at the time. But since they parted away after that, I think that future wasn't something that would happen anymore. Their time apart made them both grow as individuals and a reunion would not be like it was at the time.

I would say that his prediction was fairly valid, Buffy was too young for such a relationship to last without stuff that the mayor described occuring. However once shes 'done baking', I'm sure that angels enjoyment of delicious cookie her would be long lasting.

Well, they broke up soon after, so no, it didn't pan out that way. But I think the Mayor did tap into every single worry Angel had about his and Buffy's future and what it could realistically look like at that point.

I think he figured vampire+vampire slayer/immortal+mortal would end badly, or at the very least, he figured that Angel&Buffy would atleast have relathionship-troubles, so he decided to divide and conquer.

Did you mean that he saw into the future? I doubt that.

Wilkins' "prediction" was more an educated guess, based on his experience with his own wife than anything mystical. A common theme with any story dealing with immortality (primarily "Highlander," and "Amsterdam" in the movies and TV, plus all of the other vampire themed shows) is the tragedy of one partner remaining eternally young while the other grows old and dies. That's what he was talking about, and why Buffy could never have anything vaguely resembling a normal life and relationship with anyone, including either Angel or Spike who are immortal.

Likewise, with magic no longer a valid force in the Buffyverse, any hope of Angel winning the Shanshu is pretty much invalidated especially considering the fact that the award was supposed to come from the SENIOR PARTNERS for his help in an apocalypse, and the Senior Partners left Earth in the same miniseries that won Spike the captaincy of his space ship.

And Spike, who did the unbelievable in regaining his own soul, MIGHT consider doing the unthinkable and attempt to regain his mortality, but, once again, that "no more magic" thing kicks in

Of course, what Wilkins either didn't consider or just didn't mention is that, given that Buffy, Angel, or Spike, or any combination of the three, might very well die tomorrow or even late this afternoon, the whole mortality/immortality issue isn't as immediately valid as it might otherwise be.

Then again, maybe he was being absolutely truthful, especially if he was seeing Cordy, as a Higher Being, and therefore immortal, in Angel's future.

Haha you don't have to be a genius to see that the Slayer and a vampire together in a relationship will have their problems. I think the Major was just intelligent enought to see how it will end.

I think he was speaking from experience. He knew that a supernatural being and human relationship would hit certain obstacles and he was bringing up things he knew would mess with Angel and Buffy's relationship. There was no guarantee that his predictions would have come true if they had stayed together, however it was a very real possibility, which was why Angel left Buffy shortly after.

In my opinon I think he did it because he was scared, Buffy and Angel are the strongest warriors at the moment and when they are together they are impossible, when Buffy and Angel fought together they stopped a lot of evil image if Angel wasn't there at all, Willow, Xander and Giles would of died in 'Out of Mind Out of Sight', Angel found Buffy in 'Prophecy Girl' and in 'Earshot' Buffy would of stayed crazy if it weren't for Angel there's so many other episodes. Even Faith couldn't stop Buffy and Angel that's how strong they are. But also I think he did it cause it can't be possible for a slayer to date Angel but I do think Angel and Buffy would of been great together still in the future.

I think he was just using common sense and playing on their insecurities to mentally weaken them.

Yeah agree [MENTION=11749]Astral[/MENTION], I think the mayor was highlighting Buff&Angels worries and making it seem inevitable. I think they may have stood a chance (seeing as Buffy would never have a normal life anyway) if they didnt listen to anyone 🙂

Totally agree. Even though the Mayor was mostly just trying to get under their skin, he was right about what he was saying to them. Buffy was not ready to be with Angel at that point in her life, and if Angel stayed with her it would have only led to heartbreak and trouble.

Right... wrong, it's too hard to claim absolutes as people and their action's at the end of the day will be the tie-breaker.

What I do think however is that the Mayor made a very educated guess based upon his own experiences in the matter, so did he have a point? Absolutely. Was he right in his predicition... maybe, maybe not. He managed to scare them (his ultimate goal no doubt) and put a stop to that future for that time being so we can't know.

Like the Mayor we can only guess... logical conclusions or not it doesn't mean that either end we imagined would have been so
