Was Willow a hypocrite about Oz?

I always thought that she became a huge hypocrit when Oz cheated with that other werewolf. It's the way that she acted holier than thou and that she were completely innocent. She said that what he did was far worse (than her cheating with Xander) but that couldn't be further from the truth.

1. Willow cheated with Xander for a prolonged period of time. Oz cheated twice, in one episode.

2. Willow had actual feelings for Xander (and always had), while Oz only had a werewolf attraction.

3. Oz only cheated while in werewolf form, when he couldn't even remember what was happening. Willow cheated knowing exactly what she was doing.

4. Oz tried to resist the urge but was overwhelmed by the werewolf instinct. Willow did not resist Xander's advances at all.

Hey, I understand being mad, but to be honest the only thing Oz did wrong was by not telling the scoobies when he learned there was another werewolf. Regardless, there is no way that what he did even approached her infidelity. That's one of the reasons Willow is my least favorite scoobie, this sorts of hypocrisies. Anyone agree?

I'm kinda 50/50. I don't think that she became a hypocrite but I think that she should have forgiven him. It's true that Oz slept with Veruca but he was in werewolf form and couldn't control it. What I hated is how Buffy reacted. I mean she should have been there for Oz, the way she was there for Xander and Willow when they cheated. It's true that Buffy wasn't really close to Oz but she should at least have heard him out when he tried to explain. I mean Oz and Cordelia were isolated from the group in season 3 and they didn't even do the cheating. I found that unfair.

I agree, she was not being hypocritical
I totally agree VG!

But Willow should have forgiven him.
Her cheating WAS far worse. Ane Oz couldn't control it when he did, thus him leaving to control the wolf.

But Oz and Cordy were pushed away in season three. Sadly....🙁

Actually I have to disagree. You all say Oz couldnt control it. Didnt know what he was doing. Well when he tried to get her into the cage, he knew exactly what he was doing before they changed.
I also feel Willow had the right to be mad. Yeah, she cheated on Oz with Xander, but how does that make it right for Oz to then go and cheat on her? It doesnt. Its not like it was some kind of revenge for Willow cheating on Oz. They had got passed that a while ago.
Now I love OZ. He's my favourite character, but I definately dont defend what he did. He should have told someone about Veruca. Buffy could easily have stopped her and the whole thing would never have happened.
Yeah Oz did it for the right reasons, but he was still very, very wrong. And Willow has the right to be upset about that.

I figured he would rather cheat on Willow than have another innocent bystander brutally murdered/attacked.
I don't really think that Willow was being a hypocrite. First pf all, she only kissed Xander, while Oz actually got down and dirty with Veruca. And I really don't think you can blame the werewolffor everything that Oz does wrong. It's part of who he is! Someone has to take responsibility. And a werewolf attraction is still an attraction, it doesn't make any difference. And it's not like Willow fell into Xander's arms of something, they knew what they were doing was wrong, and did try to resist it, if not very well. Anyways, Willow cheating with Xander was in the past. Her AND Oz were over it, that wasn't part of their relationship anymore. It's not like since she cheated on him once, he gets to do it too. And who knows, Willow might have taken Oz back after that, we don't know. He's the one who left.

No one is saying she didn't have the right to be mad, we're just saying that she was very hypocritical and where she should have had some empathy since she did the same thing, she had none. And by the way, although Oz was not fully werewolf when he kissed Veruca in the cage, he was in the process and not completely under his own control.

Willow just gave off the vibe that only her feelings mattered. She acted like he hadn't even gotten hurt when she cheated on him. When in reality what he did was more like a one night stand and she had been deceiving Oz and cheating behind his back for a long time.

The only thing I think Oz really did bad here was by not telling the scoobies right away, they could have stopped Veruca sooner, but he was scared.

My problem is not with her not taking him back, i KNOW she would have (as was obvious by the way she moped around afterwards), my problem was in the way she reacted.

I realize the fact that they had actually had sex makes it somewhat more painful for the victim, but when you take into account that he doesn't even have memories of it, and that Willow was cheating for a prolonged period of time, I don't see how you can say that what he did was in any way comparable in scope.

I agree that, seen externally, Willow came across as being a tad hypocritical. But what she saw caused her immense pain and she was reacting to that. Also, the first time Oz and Veruca got it on he was the wolf and the human part of him didn't have a lot of choice in what was happening, but thereafter he made all the choices that led to him being in that cage with her for their second go at it. At any point his human part could have made the decision to come clean about what was happening and he could have gotten a more understanding response from Willow. I guess the fact that Veruca embraced the wolf part of her made him think that the scoobies may treat her case differently than his, but he never gave them a chance to find a solution. He should have known by that point that they would see her as human for most of the month so they wouldn't decide to just kill her.

VG (and CC*): I love Oz and Cordy, but the fact is that they took themselves away from the group when Willow and Xander were caught out. Willow and Xander were Buffy's friends from the very beginning and Oz and Cordy were only her friends by extension. You can't expect her to ditch her two best friends to hang out with Oz and Cordy just becasue they were the wronged parties. How would you feel if you made a stupid mistake and your best friend ditched you to hang out with the person you'd wronged even if the two of them didn't really get each other? Buffy did what a true friend should do, she didn't condone what had happened, but she still supported her friends through a tough time, even if they had brought it on themselves.

Yeah he was starting to change, but do you really think he didnt know what was gonna happen when he locked himself in with Veruca. Which, by the way, he did on purpose.

Willow just gave off the vibe that only her feelings mattered. She acted like he hadn't even gotten hurt when she cheated on him. When in reality what he did was more like a one night stand and she had been deceiving Oz and cheating behind his back for a long time.
You ever been cheated on? I have, and what you feel when you find out you're likely to forget anything other than the fact that you've been betrayed. Its natural that Willow acted like this. She was in pain. She was in love with Oz. And she realise how much after he broke up with her for cheating on him. They had grown so much closer and so much more in love since then. So I think she acted completely appropriately

The only thing I think Oz really did bad here was by not telling the scoobies right away, they could have stopped Veruca sooner, but he was scared.
Scared about what exactly? He was worried Veruca may have a point about the wolf side of him so he should have went to Buffy instead of letting it get as far as it did.

Willow cheated with Xander for a prolonged period of time. Oz cheated twice, in one episode.
Actually, one of the earlier Episodes Oz senses Verucua. We can actually take from this that he met up with her, probably in the guise of the band, but he could sense the intese attraction. He should have stayed away, yet he chose, not the werewolf, to pursue some form of relationship, even though he was unaware why he was attracted to her, he still must have been aware that he was.

2. Willow had actual feelings for Xander (and always had), while Oz only had a werewolf attraction.
You cannot know for sure that it was only a werewolf attraction, you can say that it was born from this, but the fact Willow noticed that they had similar interests, shows they could have established anotherrelationship that helped propagate the desire between them.
Willow had loved Xander for years, and when something finally happened, they did try and fight it. Irony is, the thing was over when Cordy and Oz found out.
Also don't forget alot of hurt came from the fact that Veruca had more in common with Oz, not only the werewolf. Willow felt like she didnt have that connection with him all over again.
We know she hated this because of Earshot. She knows Buffy is not attracted to Oz, yet Willow is jealous of her ability to know Oz in a way that Will never will.

3. Oz only cheated while in werewolf form, when he couldn't even remember what was happening. Willow cheated knowing exactly what she was doing.
Oz knew exactly what would happen if he was in the cage with Veruca. But fact is, he knew that he had feelings for her, born from the attraction, he didn't tell anyone the crucial information about who she was, he took it upon himself to not trust his friends, thats where his cheating is worst. He cheated the friendship, the trust.

4. Oz tried to resist the urge but was overwhelmed by the werewolf instinct. Willow did not resist Xander's advances at all.
What show was you watching?

Fact is, Willow was hurt by what she saw, her Boyfriend/Lover naked with a woman that Willow had already perceived a threat. She didn't suggest that Oz and her break up, Oz decided to leave. If we had seen a bit more, then sure, we could say she, of all people, should have given him another shot, but she didnt get that choice, so in no way can be construed as hypocritical.

Good points well made.
To me it's got nothing to do with what someone "should" do. You can't forgive someone 'cause it's the right thing to do. The question is whether or not she could just move on knowing what he had done. Obviously Oz was able to get back together with Willow even though she "cheated" with Xander, yay for them for being able to do that. However, you can't compare those two situations, and even if Willow "should" forgive Oz, it is all matter of whether or not she could see him the same way after this, and so on.. It's just never as simple as "she should have done this or that cause it was the rigth thing to do"..

Sometimes you forgive stuff you never thought you would be able to forgive, and sometimes you just can't get over some stuff that "shouldn't" really bother you that much..

No veruca was around more than just one episode we do see her in an earlier episode to and oz could tell something about her even then. And willow was with xander for a while but it was only smoochies it wasn't what oz did he got all dirty with veruca.

2. Willow had actual feelings for Xander (and always had), while Oz only had a werewolf attraction.

Oz put veruca in the cage right before becoming all wolfie. it is true that willow had a long attraction for xander till she became gay. But oz had an attraction before he was staring at her in the bronze when she was singing like i said before he knew there was something there he should have told buffy about veruca being a werewolf.

3. Oz only cheated while in werewolf form, when he couldn't even remember what was happening. Willow cheated knowing exactly what she was doing.

ummm....hello why would he have left if he didn't know what happened he knew he killed veruca and he was a wolf so he remembered and then after he had cheated he felt all bad and depressed he knew exactly what he was doing.

4. Oz tried to resist the urge but was overwhelmed by the werewolf instinct. Willow did not resist Xander's advances at all.

again HELLO what show r u watching willow felt horrible remember the whole delust spell " pez!" and again oz knew.

willow had all the right to be mad but in the end she came to talk to him and then he left, she didn't leave him he left her!!!

I'm not even saying that at all. I don't think that she "should" have forgiven him or gotten back together (which i think she would have). I can understand being too hurt to get back together with him even knowing that he wasn't himself when it happened.

However, I'm purely commenting on her reaction, the way she chewed into him as though she were completely innocent herself. Also she specifically said that him cheating was "way worse" and that's absurd, IMO.

Well in a way, it is worse. After he left her for cheating on him, he went and did it to her. So in actual fact, Oz could be considered a hypocrite if Willow can.

Well, I honestly don't think Willow acted like she was completely innocent, but well..
Second what wolf said. Although, I don't think any of them were a hypocrite (not that wolf suggested any of them were). I just think they were human, and we react different in different situations, that's all. I think that their relationship was very realistic in that way.

sorry screwed up on my last reply thing i did tho answer in the middle of every remark so i made my point yay

Actually I think people generally are hypocrite when it comes to cheating. If they are cheated, cheating is a sin; when they cheat, it is a natural drive. And they don't get cheated all the time, so figure. 🙂

willow was really hurt, coz what her an oz grew too ( after xander) was powerful and willow couldnt understand the animal attraction ( wolf) that oz had no control over. and she was jealous and her jealousy turned out to be right...... any way did i mention ( willow and tara rule !!!!!!!!)

Actually, i'm trying to 'figure' what the heck a doodle you are saying here?

People do cheat and get cheated. When they cheat, it is a normal thing, you know, a part of the nature deal, and when they are cheated, it suddenly becomes not natural but something evil.
